Rev. Tom Rives Pastor A Word from Pastor Tom….. Can you believe that we are celebrating our 19th Anniversary? In many ways it seems like yesterday that we were planning to merge two congregations together. At the same time, it is like we have always been together. As we celebrate 19 years, my family and I celebrate 30 years here in Tampa. I have served with part of our congregation for that entire time. Our children (T.J. and Ashley) graduated from high school and college here. Both were married here and our grandchildren were born here. I came to First Baptist Church 30 years ago, then we formed Bay Area Baptist 27 years ago and merged with FBC Carrollwood to form Carrollwood Baptist 19 years ago. Throughout these years I have had the privilege to walk alongside many of you during some of your darkest moments and at the same time I got to rejoice with you during the highpoints in your life. I got to be there when children were born and hug you at the loss of a loved one. I got to baptize many of you and marry so many couples. One of the great joys of my life has been the opportunity that Dianne and I have had to be a part of your lives. Three years ago I asked our Advisory Council to form an Exit Strategy Committee to help me decide when would be the right time to retire. That committee has continued to work with me on coming up with a timetable. As of today we do not have a date though I believe it will be in the not to distant future. Until then we will just keep on keeping on. This anniversary also marks a re-launching of our church website. Our website was first developed by Dr. Tom Porter with Rick Roberts helping us with our website hosting. Several years ago, we overhauled the site with my son-in- law, Brian Tomassetti, doing all the graphic design for us. In the past few months Pastor Justin has been working hard at developing a totally new website that is launching on June 2nd. We will be looking through it on the “big screen” during our “19th Anniversary Service”. I think you are going to like it and I believe you will use it more and more as it has been developed in a more user friendly format. We are underway with a 6 month emphasis called Priority God. This is leading up to “My Hope with Billy Graham” in home crusade the first week of November. In case you missed my sharing how I hope CBC will be involved, let me give you a brief synopsis. Upon attending a training session led by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, I made a commitment that we would participate. Their formula for how many families we would have participate, out of our 100 active families at CBC, said 15-20 families. God kept telling me 50 and when I signed up for 50 family packets they warned me that it would be a monumental task to get that many involved. I said, “maybe for you and maybe for me, but not for God.” Seven more families and we will reach that “God-Size” goal. Happy Anniversary, “nothing is impossible with GOD”

A Word from Pastor Tom….. Can you believe that we are celebrating our 19th Anniversary? In many ways it seems like yesterday that we were planning to merge two congregations together. At the same time, it is like we have always been together. As we celebrate 19 years, my family and I celebrate 30 years here in Tampa. August 24 ONE Event

ONE is an area-wide outreach event on Saturday, August 24. Mark your

calendars. The theme for this year is “ O NE Strength ” .

Final exams are happening and summer is upon us. We will be loading the bus and heading to North Carolina for our summer camp before you know it. It is always an exciting

and growing time for our students. If you have not made a second payment yet, please do so as soon as possible so it does not come at you all at once. We will be leaving on Sunday, July 28 and returning Saturday, August 3.

The theme for this summer is “The Kingdom” based on Matthew 6:10. The Kingdom of God is the central message of God’s Word. From creation to Revelation, scripture tells the story of how God called a nation to be His own and how He would be their King forever. Many know

and have heard this “Kingdom of God “ phrase and concept as a primary focus in the Bible and throughout Christ’s teachings, but what does the Kingdom of God really mean? How do you enter the Kingdom? What or who is included in the Kingdom? Is it here? Is it coming? This

summer we will dive into the Word and study the glorious truths and the good news of the Kingdom of God.

This years Bridge Event for all of our upcoming 6th graders will be on August

10th. We are so excited to have these guys joining us in the youth department.

Please mark your calendars and we look forward to seeing you there.

Men! Join us on Saturdays: June 1, July 13 and August 17, from

7:30 - 8:30 am for a great time of prayer and fellowship in Carpenter Hall.

Cost $350. Your $50 registration is due Sunday, June 23, 2013.

• Mystery Guest Night- Thursday, July 11 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. We will meet in

Carpenter Hall for a great time of entertainment and enjoy sharing your covered dish.

• Game Night- Thursday, August 8 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. We will meet in Carpenter Hall

to play “Lets Make A DEAL”! You need to wear a creative outfit. Cost $5.

Spiritual Simplicity {doing less– loving more} with Chip Ingram. This video curriculum

speaks to men and women who know what they need to do, want desperately to do it, but

find it next to impossible to break free of the “too many good and important things” that

flood their lives.
