Australia-Indonesia Families Association • Newsletter • August 2008 1 A- IFA news August 2008 WINTER DINNER GREAT SUCCESS! The combined AIFA-AIA Winter Dinner held on June 28 was an outstanding success. Almost all the tickets were sold and the Italo-Australian club was packed. Along with AIFA and AIA members, the Indonesian Ambassador, Bapak Hamzah Thayeb, Ibu Lastri Thayeb, and about 40 KBRI staff attended. Kuta Groove provided the main entertainment and were well supported by some guest singers, good food, and a full program. MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Thank you to members for your strong support of the 2008 winter dinner managed jointly with the AIA. All the feedback I received was highly positive and I wish to again thank all my fellow committee members and other members who contributed much to making the evening such a success. Part of the formula for the evening's success was the band who kept many of us on the dance floor for prolonged periods. But aside from the music, there was a variety of entertainment including the interesting remarks from the Indonesian Ambassador on the Australia-Indonesia relationship, the fashion parade, quiz and a good array of door and raffle prizes. The dinner was also a success financially as, thanks to strong ticket sales in the last week, we more than covered our costs. continued on page 2 Ingat Upacara 17 Agustus di KBRI

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENTThank you to members for your strong support of the 2008 winter dinner

managed jointly with the AIA. All the feedback I received was highly positive

and I wish to again thank all my fellow committee members and other

members who contributed much to making the evening such a success.

Part of the formula for the evening's success was the band who kept many

of us on the dance floor for prolonged periods. But aside from the music,

there was a variety of entertainment including the interesting remarks from

the Indonesian Ambassador on the Australia-Indonesia relationship, the

fashion parade, quiz and a good array of door and raffle prizes. The dinner

was also a success financially as, thanks to strong ticket sales in the last

week, we more than covered our costs. continued on page 2

WINTER DINNER 08 The most recent meeting of the committee has decided not to have a

separate AIFA function for 17 August for a combination of reasons

including difficulties finding a venue, the fact that we have many members

with other commitments on the relevant dates and the Embassy will be

running a public bazaar which I hope members will support.

Some AIFA members may wish to take part in the activities being

organised by the Indonesian Embassy for 17 August — see page 3 for

further details.

AIFA will be having a function in September (full details will be advised as

soon as we sort out the venue). As this will be during the fasting month, the

function will be a 'buka puasa'. As well as an opportunity to get together

(dan merayakan musim semi) this will be an opportunity to consider and

vote on some matters relating to our incorporation as an association under

ACT law. However it won't be just work — as well as good food and good

company, we will provide some other entertainment.

On a related matter, we will shortly be sending out a revised AIFA

constitution for your consideration. The reason for revising the constitution

is so that it conforms to the requirements of the ACT law on incorporated

associations. I think you will find that the core elements of our existing

constitution have not changed but the Committee would welcome your

comments on the document. Members will be asked to vote on the new

constitution in due course.
