The Reds won for many reasons including the fact that they were in a close proximity to each other so they could transfer supplies easily. They were well equipped and had the Cheka or secret police who ruthlessly dispatched any opposition.

The Greens disliked the Whites who contained ex-landlords and aristocrats who would want there land back and hated the Reds. This was not a very smart idea. As well as being ill-equipped they also massacred many which made them unpopular. Even witch powers couldn’t win the battle.
The Whites lost for several reasons. They were spread out encircling the Reds so supplies were hard to transport and also because they consisted of about everyone who hated the Bolsheviks (except the peasants) co-ordination was limited. The Reds also played the patriotic card well as foreign powers were working alongside the Whites.
