Born in Vienna, ERICH GRUENBERG started his musical education in his native city. He continued his studies at the Jerusalem Conserv atoire and came to the United Kingdom at the age of 22 gaining outstanding recognition through winning the Carl Flesch International violin competition which launched him on an international career.

He has a comprehensive repertoire that ranges from concerti by Vivaldi and Bach to a very active advocacy of contemporary music. Recently, in London, he gave the world premiere of the "Romanza" for violin and orchestra by the young British composer Robin Holloway. At present 3 concertos have been commissioned by him - works by the English composer John McCabe, the Indian composer John Mayer, both of which are scheduled for premiere in the 1979/80 season, and a recent commission from Luciano Berio.

His recent tours have included trips to Switzerland, Germany, Israel, Hungary, the United States and Canada. This season finds Erich Gruenberg in Spain, Holland, the United States, Canada, an extensive tour of Australia, as well as many performances throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

Recent recordings by Erich Gruenberg have been released - Sonatas by Franz Reizenstein, famous solos by Fritz Kreisler with the Phil­harmonic Orchestra and the Violin Concerto by David Morgan with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Erich Gruenberg plays on an Antonio Stradivarius violin made in 1731.

JAMES GIBB, of Scottish descent, studied in London with Mabel Lander, herself a pupil of Leschetizky, the renowned teacher of Pederewski, Schnabel, Moiseiwitsch, Brailowsky, etc.

At the end of the war during which he served in the R.A., James Gibb gave many concerts to the troops in Germany and broadcasted frequently for the British Forces Network and the North West German Radio.

His debut was made at the Royal Albert Hall in 1949 in a Promenade Concert since when he has appeared frequently in subsequent seasons of these concerts. He has played as soloist with all the major symphony orchestras in Great Britain and abroad, with the Berlin Philharmonic, the North West German Radio Symphony Orchestra and with the BRNO State Radio Symphony Orchestra under Guilini in the Prague Spring International Festival. He has given numerous recitals in London and in the provinces and many abroad; most recently has made a tour of eight countries in Central America and the Caribbean. He broadcasts frequently for the: BBC, and also given many illustrated broadcast talks. He is a Professor at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama where he is Head of the Keyboard Department and has taken a leave of absence from the Guildhall for one year to take up a position as Instructor in Piano with the Department of Music at Memorial Uni­versity.
