WHEELCHAIR USERAs a manufacturer of wheelchairs, Invacare endeavors to supply a wide variety of wheelchairs to meetmany needs of the end user. However, final selection of the type of wheelchair to be used by anindividual rests solely with the user and his/her healthcare professional capable of making such aselection.

WHEELCHAIR TIE-DOWN RESTRAINTS AND SEAT RESTRAINTSInvacare recommends that wheelchair users NOT be transported in vehicles of any kind while in wheel-chairs. As of this date, the Department of Transportation has not approved any tie-down systems fortransportation of a user while in a wheelchair, in a moving vehicle of any type.

It is Invacare’s position that users of wheelchairs should be transferred into appropriate seating invehicles for transportation and use be made of the restraints made available by the auto industry.Invacare cannot and does not recommend any wheelchair transportation systems.

PROCEDURE 1 GENERAL GUIDELINES

GENERAL WARNINGSTo determine and establish your particular safety limits, practice bending, reaching and transferringactivities in several combinations in the presence of a qualified healthcare professional BEFORE at-tempting active use of the wheelchair.DO NOT attempt to reach objects if you have to move forward in the seat.DO NOT attempt to reach objects if you have to pick them up from the floor by reaching down between yourknees.DO NOT lean over the top of the back upholstery to reach objects from behind as this may cause thewheelchair to tip over.DO NOT shift your weight or sitting position toward direction you are reaching as the wheelchair may tip over.DO NOT tilt the wheelchair without assistance.DO NOT use an escalator to move a wheelchair between floors. Serious bodily injury may occur.DO NOT attempt to stop a moving wheelchair with the wheel locks. WHEEL LOCKS ARE NOT BRAKES.Before attempting to transfer in or out of the wheelchair, every precaution should be taken to reducethe gap distance. Turn both casters toward the object you are transferring onto. When transferring toand from the wheelchair, ALWAYS ENGAGE BOTH WHEEL LOCKS.DO NOT operate on roads, streets or highways.

DO NOT go up or down ramps or traverse slopes greater than 9°.DO NOT attempt to move up or down an incline with a water, ice or oil film.DO NOT attempt to ride over curbs or obstacles. Doing so may cause your wheelchairto tip over and cause bodily harm to you or damage to the wheelchair.DO NOT use parts, accessories, or adapters other than those authorized by Invacare.DO NOT attempt to lift the wheelchair by any removable (detachable) parts. Lifting by means of anyremovable (detachable) parts of a wheelchair may result in injury to the user and/or assistant or dam-age to the wheelchair.

DO NOT stand on the frame of the wheelchair.DO NOT use the footplate as a platform when getting in or out of the wheelchair.ALWAYS wear your Seat Positioning Strap. Inasmuch as the SEAT POSITIONING STRAP is an option on thiswheelchair (You may order with or without the Seat Positioning Strap), Invacare strongly recommendsordering the Seat Positioning Strap as an additional safeguard for the wheelchair user.

RECLINER OPERATIONEnsure the spreader bar is attached and secured before using the Recliner.ALWAYS engage both wheel locks while reclining or inclining (reverse recline) the wheel-chair.NEVER use quick-release axles on the RECLINER.

TIRE PRESSUREDO NOT use your wheelchair unless it has the proper tire pressure (p.s.i.). DO NOT over-inflate the tires. Failure to follow these suggestions may cause the tire to explode andcause bodily harm. The recommended tire pressure is listed on the side wall of the tire.

Replacement of a pneumatic tire or tube MUST be performed by a Qualified Technician.

WEIGHT TRAININGInvacare DOES NOT recommend the use of its wheelchairs as a weight training apparatus. Invacarewheelchairs have NOT been designed or tested as a seat for any kind of weight training. If occupantuses said wheelchair as a weight training apparatus, Invacare shall NOT be liable for bodily injury andthe warranty will be voided.

WEIGHT LIMITATIONThe 9000 Jymni wheelchairs have a weight limitation of 125 lbs.

SPECIFIC WARNINGS - STABILITYThe back height, front caster position, seat-to-floor angle, position of the rear wheels, correctanti-tipper as well as the end user's disability or end user's physical condition and capabilitiesdirectly relate to the stability of the wheelchair. Any change to one (1) or any combination ofthe eight (8) may cause the wheelchair to decrease in stability. These adjustments MUST beperformed by a qualified technician.Seat-to-floor heights have specific positions depending on rear wheel size, rear wheel posi-tion, front caster position and seat-to-floor angle. These adjustments MUST be performed by aqualified technician.

ANTI-TIPPERSAnti-tippers are specific to the different rear wheels and/or seat-to-floor heights. Refer to the chart inINSTALLING/ADJUSTING THE ANTI-TIPPERS in PROCEDURE 8 of this manual for correct usage and adjust-ment. If these requirements CANNOT be achieved, DO NOT use the wheelchair. Con-tact a qualified technician. Any changes to the seat-to-floor angle or seat-to-floorheight may require different anti-tippers.NON-RECLINERS ONLY: Inasmuch as ANTI-TIPPERS are an option on this wheelchair (You may orderNON-RECLINERS with or without the anti-tippers), Invacare strongly recommends ordering anti-tippers asan additional safeguard for the wheelchair user. If so equipped, anti-tippers MUST BE attached andpointing down towards ground/floor at all times.RECLINERS AND WHEELCHAIRS WITH 1-INCH FORWARD REAR WHEEL POSITIONER ONLY:Anti-tippers MUST BE attached at all times.Anti-tippers MUST be fully engaged. Ensure that the release buttons of the anti-tipper fullyprotrudes out of the hole on the bottom of the wheelchair frame and out of hole in theadjustment tube.Ensure both anti-tippers are adjusted to the same height.Seat-to-floor height (which includes changing rear wheel size): If changing the seat-to-floor height withor without changing the rear wheel size, the correct anti-tippers MUST be ordered to maintain a 1-1/2 to2-inch ground clearance.

TO HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS/ASSISTANTSMake sure the occupant of the wheelchair is properly positioned.When reclining or inclining the wheelchair, make sure to use proper body mechanics(use your legs) or seek assistance if necessary to avoid injury.Keep clear when reclining or inclining chair back to avoid injury.Make sure the patient is properly positioned in the wheelchair before reclining or inclining (reverserecline) to maintain maximum stability and safety.Before using the recliner option, make sure the anti-tipper wheel assemblies are in the lowest adjust-ment hole (adjustment hole closest to the ground/floor.)

SAFETY/HANDLING OFWHEELCHAIRS

A NOTE TO WHEELCHAIR ASSISTANTS

When assistance to the wheelchair user is required, re-member to use good body mechanics. Keep your backstraight and bend your knees whenever tilting the wheel-chair or traversing curbs, or other impediments.

WARNINGDO NOT attempt to lift the wheelchair by any re-movable (detachable) parts. Lifting by means ofany removable (detachable) parts of a wheel-chair may result in injury to the user or damage tothe wheelchair.

Also, be aware of any removable (detachable) parts. Thesemust NEVER be used for hand-held or lifting supports, asthey may be inadvertently released, resulting in possibleinjury to the user and/or assistant(s).

When learning a new assistance technique, have an ex-perienced assistant help you before attempting it alone.

“Safety and Handling” of the wheelchair requires the closeattention of the wheelchair user as well as the assistant.This manual points out the most common procedures andtechniques involved in the safe operation and maintenanceof the wheelchair. It is important to practice and master thesesafe techniques until you are comfortable in maneuveringaround the frequently encountered architectural barriers.

Use this information only as a “basic” guide. The tech-niques that are discussed on the following pages havebeen used successfully by many.

Individual wheelchair users often develop skills to deal withdaily living activities that may differ from those described inthis manual. Invacare recognizes and encourages eachindividual to try what works best for him/her in overcomingarchitectural obstacles that they may encounter, however,ALL WARNINGS and CAUTIONS given in this manual,MUST be followed. Techniques in this manual are a start-ing point for the new wheelchair user and assistant with“safety” as the most important consideration for all.

STABILITY AND BALANCE

WARNINGInasmuch as ANTI-TIPPERS are an option onthis wheelchair (You may order NON-RECLIN-ERS with or without the anti-tippers),Invacare strongly recommends orderinganti-tippers as an additional safeguard forthe wheelchair user. If so equipped, anti-tippers MUST BE attached and pointing downtowards ground/floor at all times.ALWAYS wear your Seat Positioning Strap.Inasmuch as the SEAT POSITIONING STRAP isan option on this wheelchair (You may or-der with or without the Seat PositioningStrap), Invacare strongly recommends or-dering the Seat Positioning Strap as an addi-tional safeguard for the wheelchair user.

To assure stability and proper operation of your wheelchair,you must at all times wear your Seat Positioning Strap andmaintain proper balance. Your wheelchair has been designedto remain upright and stable during normal daily activities aslong as you do not move beyond the center of gravity.

DO NOT lean forward out of the wheelchair any furtherthan the length of the armrests. Make sure the castersare pointing in the forward position whenever you leanforward. This can be achieved by advancing the wheel-chair and then reversing it in a straight line.

Coping With Everyday ObstaclesCoping with the irritation of everyday obstacles can bealleviated somewhat by learning how to manage yourwheelchair. Keep in mind your center of gravity to main-tain stability and balance.

Percentage of Weight Distribution

WARNINGThe back height, front caster position, seat-to-floorangle, position of the rear wheels, correct anti-tipper as well as the end user's disability or enduser's physical condition and capabilities directlyrelate to the stability of the wheelchair. Anychange to one (1) or any combination of the eight(8) may cause the wheelchair to decrease in sta-bility. These adjustments MUST be per-formed by a qualified technician.

DO NOT attempt to reach objects if you have tomove forward in the seat or pick them up fromthe floor by reaching down between your knees.

Many activities require the wheelchair user to reach, bendand transfer in and out of the wheelchair. These move-ments will cause a change to normal balance, center ofgravity, and weight distribution of the wheelchair. To deter-mine and establish your particular safety limits, practicebending, reaching and transferring activities in several com-binations in the presence of a qualified healthcare profes-sional BEFORE attempting active use of the wheelchair.

Proper positioning is essential for your safety. When reach-ing, leaning, bending forward, it is important to use thefront casters as a tool to maintain stability and balance.

Functional Reach From A Wheelchair

The approximate reach-limit values shown in the accom-panying graph were derived on the basis of a sample of91 male and 36 female wheelchair users. Note the differ-ence between the maximum and the comfortable reachlimits, a subjective but important consideration in design.

Reaching, Leaning and Bending -Forward

Position the front casters so that they are extended asfar forward as possible and engage wheel locks.

WARNINGDO NOT attempt to reach objects if you have tomove forward in the seat or pick them up fromthe floor by reaching down between your knees.

WARNINGDO NOT lean over the top of the back upholstery.This will change your center of gravity and maycause you to tip over.

Position wheelchair as close as possible to the desiredobject. Point front casters forward to create the longestpossible wheelbase. Reach back only as far as your armwill extend without changing your sitting position.

REACHING, LEANING AND BENDING -FORWARD

Tilting

WARNINGDO NOT tilt the wheelchair without assistance.

When tilting the wheelchair, an assistant should grasp theback of the wheelchair on a non-removable (non-detach-able) part. Inform the wheelchair occupant before tiltingthe wheelchair and remind him/her to lean back. Be surethe occupant’s feet and hands are clear of all wheels.

METHOD 2 - TILTING - CURBS

Tilting - Curbs:

After mastering the techniques of tilting the wheelchair,use one (1) of the following procedures to tackle curbs,short stairs, etc.:

METHOD 1.The assistant should turn the anti-tippers so that the wheelsare pointing upwards, apply a continuous downward mo-tion on the step tube of the wheelchair frame until thebalance point is achieved and the front casters clear thecurb. At this point, the assistant will feel a difference in theweight distribution.

Roll the wheelchair forward and slowly lower the front ofthe wheelchair in one continuous movement onto the side-walk. Do not let the wheelchair drop the last few inches tothe ground. This could result in injury to the occupant.Push the wheelchair forward until the rear wheels roll upand over the curb.

METHOD 1 - TILTING - CURBSStep Tube

TILTING - CURBS: METHOD 2.This method requires two (2) assistants. The second as-sistant should be positioned at the front of the wheelchairlifting upward on a non-removable (non-detachable) partof the wheelchair frame when lifting the wheelchair andstabilizing the wheelchair when the wheelchair is beinglowered to the ground.

The first assistant should stand on the sidewalk and turnthe wheelchair so that the rear wheels are against thecurb. Turn the anti-tippers so the anti-tip wheels are point-ing up, the wheelchair should be tilted back to the balancepoint and, in one continuous upward movement, the rearwheels should be pulled up and over the curb. DO NOTreturn the front casters to the ground until the wheelchairhas been pulled backward far enough for the front castersto clear the edge of the curb.

WARNINGMake sure that the anti-tipper wheels are point-ing down towards the ground/floor BEFORE usingthe wheelchair.

Turn the anti-tippers wheels down towards the ground/floor.



Stairways

WARNINGDO NOT attempt to lift a wheelchair by lifting anyremovable (detachable) parts. Lifting by meansof any removable (detachable) parts of a wheel-chair may result in injury to the user and/or assis-tant or damage to the wheelchair.

Extreme caution is advised when it is necessaryto move an occupied wheelchair up or downthe stairs. Invacare recommends using two (2)assistants and making thorough preparations.Make sure to use ONLY secure, non-detachableparts for hand-held supports.

ALWAYS wear your Seat Positioning Strap. Inasmuchas the SEAT POSITIONING STRAP is an option on thiswheelchair (You may order with or without the SeatPositioning Strap), Invacare strongly recommendsordering the Seat Positioning Strap as an additionalsafeguard for the wheelchair user.

Follow this procedure for moving the wheelchairbetween floors when an elevator is NOT available:

1. Disengage the wheel locks before negotiating the stair-way. Refer to USING/ADJUSTING THE PATIENTOPERATED WHEEL LOCKS in PROCEDURE 8of this manual.

2. The first assistant should turn the anti-tippers so theanti-tip wheels are pointing up. "HAMMOCK OR SLING SEAT" MODELS

ESCALATORS? SORRY!DO NOT use an escalator to move a wheelchairbetween floors. Serious bodily injury may occur.

Transferring To and From Other Seats

WARNINGBEFORE attempting to transfer in or out of thewheelchair, every precaution should be taken toreduce the gap distance. Turn both casters to-ward the object you are transferring onto. Alsobe certain the wheel locks are engaged to helpprevent the wheels from moving.

When transferring, position yourself as far back aspossible in the seat. This will prevent damagedupholstery and the possibility of the wheelchairtipping forward.

NOTE: This activity may be performed independentlyprovided you have adequate mobility and upper bodystrength.

Position the wheelchair as close as possible along sidethe seat to which you are transferring, with the front cast-ers pointing toward it. Engage wheel locks. Shift bodyweight into seat with transfer.

During independent transfer, little or no seat platform willbe beneath you. Use a transfer board if at all possible.

Folding and Unfolding The Wheelchair

WARNINGKeep hands and fingers clear of moving parts toavoid injury.

TO OPEN.1. Open the wheelchair by grasping the armrest of the

wheelchair closest to you.

2. Tilt the wheelchair towards you (raising the oppositewheel and caster off the ground/floor).

3. Push downward on the TOP of the seat rail closest toyou where the seat upholstery is attached until thewheelchair is fully open.

4. RECLINERS ONLY - Secure the detached end ofthe spreader bar to the side frame. Refer to STOR-ING/REPLACING THE SPREADER BAR in PRO-CEDURE 9 of this manual.

5. WHEELCHAIRS WITH STROLLER HANDLESONLY - Position BOTH stroller handles at the samehole height. Refer to INSTALLING ADJUSTINGSTROLLER HANDLES in PROCEDURE 10 of thismanual.

3. The second assistant, with a firm hold on a non-de-tachable part of the framework, lifts the wheelchair upand over the stair and steadies the wheelchair as thefirst assistant places one (1) foot on the next stair andrepeats STEP 1.

4. The wheelchair should not be lowered until the laststair has been negotiated and the wheelchair hasbeen rolled away from the stairway.

PROCEDURE 2 SAFETY INSPECTION

WARNINGDO NOT use the wheelchair unless it has theproper tire pressure (p.s.i.). The recommendedtire pressure is listed on the side wall of the tire.DO NOT overinflate the tires. Failure to follow thesesuggestions may cause the tire to explode andcause bodily harm.

4. If tires are pneumatic, ensure the tires are at theproper tire pressure. The recommended tire pres-sure is listed on the side wall of the tire.

5. The wheels and tires should be checked periodi-cally for cracks and wear, and should be replaced.

6. Periodically check handrims to ensure they aresecurely attached to the rear wheels. Refer toREPLACING REAR WHEEL HANDRIM in PRO-CEDURE 6 of this manual.

7. Periodically adjust wheel locks in correlation totire wear. Refer to WHEEL LOCK ADJUSTMENTin PROCEDURE 8 of this manual.

8. Periodically check front caster and rear wheel hubsto make sure they are clean and free of cracks.

9. Check upholstery for sagging, rips or tears.

NOTE: Lay the assembly on a flat surface to simplify thisprocedure.

2. Remove impact guards and/or calf strap, if necessary.


A. Wheelchairs equipped with 80° swingawayfootrest (Model Number J932A-14):

• Loosen, but do not remove the bolt and locknut that secure the lower footrest assemblyto the upper footrest support.

• Reposition the lower footrest assembly to thedesired height.

• Securely tighten the bolt and locknut.

B. Wheelchairs equipped with 70° swingaway footrest(model number J932A) OR 90° swingaway foot-rest (Model Number J933A):

• Remove the bolt, locknut and four (4) washersthat secure the lower footrest assembly to theupper footrest support.

• Align the mounting hole of the lower footrestassembly with desired height adjustment holein the lower footrest support.

• Reinstall the bolt through the desired heightadjustment hole in the lower footrest assemblyand through the mounting hole in the lower foot-rest support. Securely tighten with the locknutand four (4) washers.

4. Repeat this procedure for the other footrest, if necessary.

5. Replace impact guards and/or calf strap, if necessary.

6. Reinstall the swingaway footrest assembly. Refer to IN-STALLING/REMOVING THE SWINGAWAY FOOT-REST ASSEMBLY in this procedure of the manual.

3. Position the NEW heel loop as shown in FIGURE 3and reverse STEPS 1-2 to reassemble.

Elevating Legrest (J934A-14 ONLY)

1. Loosen, but do not remove the bolt and locknut thatsecure the lower half of the footrest to the swingawayfootrest assembly.

2. Remove the lower footrest assembly.

3. Remove the mounting screw and locknut that securethe heel loop to the footrest.

4. Slide heel loop over cane of the footrest assembly.

5. Replace heel loop.

6. Reverse STEPS 1-4 to reassemble.

NOTE: When securing the heel loop to the footrest as-sembly, tighten the mounting screw and locknut until thespacer is secure.

INSTALLING/REMOVINGELEVATING LEGREST ASSEMBLY(FIGURE 4)

Installing1. Place elevating legrest assembly on the outside of

the wheelchair and install the hinge plates onto thehinge pins on the wheelchair frame.

2. Rotate elevating legrest assembly toward the insideof the wheelchair until it locks in place.

3. Repeat this procedure for other legrest assembly.

NOTE: The footplates will be facing each other whenlocked in place.

4. After seated in wheelchair, adjust LEGREST to correctheight. Refer to ADJUSTING THE ELEVATINGLEGREST ASSEMBLY in this procedure.

Removing1. To release the elevating legrest assembly push the

legrest release handle toward the inside of the wheel-chair (facing the front of the wheelchair) and swing thelegrest assembly to the outside of the wheelchair.

2. Lift the elevating legrest assembly off of the hinge pins.

REMOVING/INSTALLING THE REARWHEELS

WARNINGIf changing the size of the rear wheel or a changein the SEAT-TO-FLOOR HEIGHT is desired, this pro-cedure must be performed by a qualifiedtechnician.

Permanent Axles (FIGURE 1)

NOTE: If replacing the same size rear wheel, note themounting position on the wheelchair frame for properreinstallation of the NEW rear wheel.

1. Remove the dust cap (if applicable), mounting screwand locknut that secure the rear wheel and axle spacerto the wheelchair.

2. Repeat STEP 1 for the opposite rear wheel.

3. To reinstall the rear wheel onto the wheelchair, reverseSTEPS 1-2.

Quick-Release Axles (FIGURE 2)

WARNINGNEVER use quick-release axles on theRECLINER.

NOTE: If replacing the same size rear wheel, note themounting position on the wheelchair frame for properreinstallation of the NEW rear wheel.

1. Push the dentent pin in the tip of the quick-releaseaxle (with wheel) and pull the axle out through the open-ing in the center of the rear wheel and axle spacer.

2. Push the dentent pin in the tip of the quick-releaseaxle again and pull the axle out of the rear wheel.

3. Repeat STEPS 1-2 for the opposite rear wheel.

4. To reinstall the rear wheel onto the wheelchair, reverseSTEPS 1-3.

RECLINER OPERATION (FIGURE 1)WARNING

ALWAYS make sure that the wheelchair is stableBEFORE using the recliner option.

ALWAYS wear your Seat Positioning Strap. Inasmuchas the SEAT POSITIONING STRAP is an option onthis wheelchair (You may order with or without theSeat Positioning Strap), Invacare strongly recom-mends ordering the Seat Positioning Strap as anadditional safeguard for the wheelchair user.

Ensure the spreader bar is attached and securedbefore using the Recliner.

TO HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS/ASSISTANTS:Make sure the occupant of the wheelchair isproperly positioned.

Keep clear when reclining or inclining chair backto avoid injury.ALWAYS engage both wheel locks while reclin-ing or inclining (reverse recline) the wheelchair.Make sure the patient is properly positioned inthe wheelchair before reclining or inclining (re-verse recline) to maintain maximum stability andsafety. Refer to the SAFETY/HANDLING section ofthis manual.Before using the recliner option, make sure theanti-tipper wheel assemblies are in the lowest ad-justment hole (adjustment hole closest to theground/floor.)

NOTE: Refer to PROCEDURE 1 - GENERAL GUIDE-LINES which include GENERAL WARNINGS.

1. Unfold wheelchair. Refer to SAFETY/HANDLING inthe front section of this manual.

2. Attach spreader bar. Refer to STORING/REPLACINGTHE SPREADER BAR in this procedure of the manual.

3. Adjust the tightness of the headrest/back upholstery.Refer to ADJUSTING HEADREST/BACK UPHOL-STERY in this procedure of the manual.

4. Make sure wheelchair is occupied and on a level sur-face before reclining.

5. Inform the occupant of the wheelchair that the wheel-chair is about to be reclined.

6. Stand behind the wheelchair and grasp both handlesfirmly.

7. Squeeze release handles.

8. SLOWLY, pull back on the back assembly whilesqueezing the release handles.

9. When the back reaches the desired angle, SLOWLYlet go of the release handles.

10. To return the back to the full upright position, reverse theSTEPS 6-9 keeping in mind proper body mechanics.

Back Upholstery (FIGURE 3)

1. Unthread one knob on either side of the spreader barand loosen the opposite knob.

2. Remove the eight (8) mounting screws that securethe back upholstery to the back canes.

3. Secure NEW back upholstery to back canes with theexisting eight (8) mounting screws. Securely tighten.

4. Secure knob of spreader bar to side frame. Securelytighten both knobs.

REPLACING THE HEADREST/BACKUPHOLSTERY

Headrest Upholstery (FIGURE 4)

1. Remove the headrest pillow. Refer to REPLACINGTHE HEADREST PILLOW in this PROCEDURE 9of the manual.

2. Remove the six (6) mounting screws that secure theheadrest upholstery to the headrest extension tubes.

3. Secure NEW headrest upholstery onto headrest ex-tension tubes with the existing six (6) mounting screws.

4. Install headrest pillow. Refer to REPLACING THEHEADREST PILLOW in this PROCEDURE 9 of themanual.

INSTALLING THE TELESCOPINGI.V. ROD/O2 HOLDERS (FIGURE 1)

Safety and Maintenance

1. Make sure the telescoping I.V. rod is tightly lockedbefore placing I.V. medication on the rod.

2. The telescoping I.V. rod is designed for the specificpurpose of supporting I.V. medication only. DO NOTuse it to support objects other than I.V. medication.

3. Check weekly to make sure the telescoping I.V. rod/O2 holder is tightly secured to the wheelchair frame. Ifthere is any looseness whatsoever, DO NOT use un-til the corrective adjustments have been made.

4. The telescoping I.V. rod/O2 holders clean easily withany household glass type cleaner.

Mounting Instructions

1. Slide telescoping I.V. rod/O2 holder over the step tubeof the wheelchair.

NOTE: Mounting bracket of telescoping I.V. rod/O2 holdershould be positioned below the two (2) axle mountingpositions on wheelchair frame.

2. Secure telescoping I.V. rod/O2 holder to the wheel-chair frame with hex screw, spacer and locknut.

INSTALLING THE 1-INCH FORWARDREAR WHEEL POSITIONER(FIGURE 2)

1. Remove both rear wheels from the wheelchair. Re-fer to REMOVING/INSTALLING THE REARWHEELS in PROCEDURE 6 of this manual.

2. Position the right hand 1-inch forward rear wheelpositioner onto the right hand side of the wheelchairframe (FIGURE 2).

NOTE: RIGHT and LEFT hand sides of the wheelchairare determined from the users position.

3. Secure the 1-inch forward rear wheel positioner tothe wheelchair frame using the two (2) mountingscrews, spacers and locknuts.

4. Repeat STEPS 2-3 to Install the left hand 1-inchforward wheel positioner.

4. Reinstall the rear wheels onto the 1-inch forwardbrackets. Refer to REMOVING/INSTALLING THEREAR WHEELS in PROCEDURE 6 of this manual.

5. If necessary, install the anti-tippers. Refer to INSTALL-ING/ADJUSTING THE ANTI-TIPPERS in PROCE-DURE 8 of this manual.

INSTALLING/ADJUSTING STROLLERHANDLES (FIGURE 3)

Removing

1. Remove the detent pin that secures one (1) strollerhandle to one (1) of the back cane.

2. Remove the stroller handle

3. If necessary, repeat STEPS 1-2 for the oppositestroller handle.

Installing

NOTE: Wheelchair MUST be OPEN before installingstroller handles.


A. Wheelchairs 12-14 inches wide:• Insert one (1) of the stroller handles into one (1)

B. Wheelchairs 10 inches wide:• Insert one (1) stroller handle into one (1) of the

back canes so that it is facing AWAY from theINSIDE of the wheelchair (FIGURE 3).

2. Position the stroller handle so that the mounting hole inthe back cane aligns with the desired height mountinghole in the stroller handle and secure with detent pin.

3. Ensure the detent pin passes through the mountinghole in the back cane AND the desired height mount-ing hole in the stroller handle.

4. Repeat STEPS 1-3 for the opposite stroller handle.

Height Adjustment

NOTE: Wheelchair MUST be OPEN before adjustingstroller handle height.

NOTE: Both handles should be adjusted to the sameheight when in use.

1. Remove the detent pin that secures one (1) strollerhandle to one (1) of the back cane.

2. Slide the stroller handle UP or DOWN until the de-sired height is reached, making sure the mountinghole in the back cane aligns with the desired heightmounting hole in the stroller handle.

3. Reinstall the detent pin so that it passes through themounting hole in the back cane AND the desiredheight mounting hole in the stroller handle.

INSTALLING/REMOVING THE SOLIDSEAT INSERT

Installing

1. Position the solid seat insert so that it is fully sup-ported by the seat rails and the back edge of the solidseat insert is touching the back canes.

Removing

1. Firmly grasp the solid seat insert and lift it away fromthe seat upholstery.

INSTALLING/REMOVING THE SOLIDBACK INSERT

Installing

1. Position the solid back insert between the back canes.

2. Wrap the two (2) fastening straps around the backcanes. Securely fasten with the two (2) snaps.

Removing

1. Release the two (2) snaps securing the two (2) fas-tening straps around the back canes and remove thesolid back insert.

4. Repeat STEPS 1 - 3 for the opposite stroller handle.

NOTE: When closing a wheelchair with stroller handles,raise or lower one (1) of the stroller handles two (2) holeheights.

This warranty is extended only to the original purchaser/user of our products.

This warranty gives you specific legal rights and you may also have other legal rights which varyfrom state to state.

Invacare warrants its product to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of one (1)year from date of purchase (including the spring lift mechanisms for the recliners). The side frames andcrossmembers are warranted for the five (5) years of the original purchaser/users. If within such warrantyperiod any such product shall be proven to be defective, such product shall be repaired or replaced, atInvacare’s option. This warranty does not include any labor or shipping charges incurred in replacementpart installation or repair of any such product. Invacare’s sole obligation and your exclusive remedy underthis warranty shall be limited to such repair and/or replacement.

For warranty service, please contact the dealer from whom you purchased your Invacare product. Inthe event you do not receive satisfactory warranty service, please write directly to Invacare at theaddress below. Provide dealer’s name, address, the product model number, date of purchase, indi-cate nature of the defect and, if the product is serialized, indicate the serial number. Do not returnproducts to our factory without our prior consent.
