NAILING IT This SEASON:

KNOTS LANDING

For fall, we’re seeing a return to classic nail colors, butthey’re reimagined with shimmer and lush cream finishes.

Skinny or wide. Linen or silk. Windsor or half-Windsor. One thing all professionals can agreeon is that ties always make a fashion statement.

Land yourself a power pinstripe or perfect paisley from the carefully curatedcollections of Johnston & Murphy,Brooks Brothers and Hugo Boss.

Sophisticated nail art continues to be on trend for fall. Check it out using polishes from Phillip Lim’s Nars collection.

Feast your eyes on OPI’s Fall Nordic collection. According to OPI, the collection consists of an equally varied array of colors that capture the aesthetic of the Nordic region.

From bolds to cremes, Essie’s fall 2014 collection, “Dress to Kilt,” has you covered.

From mauve to taupe, don’t forget the power (and simplicity)of a great neutral. Zoya’s fall 2014 collection is just that.

Not since the infamous 2008 waiting list for Chanel’s Blue Satin has this ink-pot polish been so covetable.

The lustrously dark off-black shade made a chic comeback at shows like Zac Posenand Anna Sui.

Manicurist Gina Edwards, who prepped the nails at Zac Posen, likes to approach theversatile hue just as she would a neutral:“Its undertones pair well with everythingfrom oatmeal tweed to classic red.”

HAIRStress-FreeTravel Hairstyles

A polished ponytail for a flightis an obvious option for womenas they move through securitycheck points, juggle carry-onsand coffee, and navigatethrough various concourses.

While the classic ponytail istimeless and basic, it can getquite boring for the frequenttraveler, who’s looking toupgrade their airport ensemble.

To spice up your go-to travelhairstyle, opt for one of thesetrendy alternatives that willhave you looking polished, fresh and stylish all the way to your final destination.

Fishtail Braid

A fishtail braid is a simple, quick and unique version ofyour everyday braid. Thoughthe pattern looks complicated,it is actually quite easy and a great option for a low-maintenance and laidback hairstyle.

Perfect for any occasion, youcan wear your fishtail braid toyour final destination or takeout the braid to give your haira nice wave. (Tip: the tighteryou braid, the tighter yourwaves will be).

To give your post-fishtailwaves some extra shape, try a sea salt wave spray. Thespray often enhances existingwaves by giving them morecontrol and definition.

Top Knot

Worn as messy and loose orsleek and tight, a top knot is a simple solution to any hairdebacle. Known to fix eventhe worst bad hair days, a topknot complements any outfitby adding a trendy andfashionable touch.

While a top knot can beaccomplished with just asimple hair-tie, many womenuse a sock bun to create aperfect, one-step top knotthat puts a classy touch to any overall look. A sock bun is portable and will fit in yourpurse or carry-on travel bag.

Boho Braids

Sometimes, a girl just needsto have her hair down. Theselittle braids give you down-dochic while simultaneouslykeeping hair out of your face.To create this simple style, take 2-inch pieces of hairfrom your hairline and braidthem away from your face, securing with a bobby pin. This bohemian look is bestachieved with a middle part, but can be done with a sidepart as well.

Braided Bun

No hair products? Noproblem. For this easy andstress-free bun, all you needis a few bobby pins. To createthe low bun, rope-braid yourhair on each side of your part,as if you’re making pigtails. (A rope-braid is created bytwisting two strands of hairaround each other).

Take one of the braids andcoil it in a spiral just aboveyour neck. Bobby pin thebraid spiral into place. Takethe second braid and wrap it around the existing braidspiral, securely pinning thesecond braid into place. The end result should looklike an intricately woven bun.

Milkmaid Braids

Worn by celebrities likeVanessa Hudgens, JenniferLawrence and Mary-KateOlsen, milkmaid braids havebecome recognized as a low-maintenance, yet still-elegantup-do. This style is a littlemore complicated to get intoplace, but the end result iscompletely worth it.

Once completed, milkmaidbraids ensure no worries forthe rest of your journey.

Easiest to create with longerhair, the style consists of two simple braids, which areessentially pinned to the topof your head. Make sure thebraids are secure with no fly-aways or stray pieces.Milkmaid braids are usuallydone with the traditional,three-strand braid, but can be done with fishtail braids as well to add extra flair.

REMEMBER: BE FRIZZ-FREE While all of these styles arequick and easy, they do shareone common enemy: frizz. The best way to make thesehair-dos frizz-free is to firstblow dry them completely.

Moisture attracts moremoisture, which airplanecabins are notorious for, andwill create a frizzy field dayout of any hair style, nomatter how polished it isbefore departure.

SLING IT, SWING IT

Holding Your Pursein High Regard

Fashion shows are designed to spark trends.

Every last detail of every outfit is meticulously planned.

Models walk to accentuate theclothes, pose to highlight theaccessories and employ facial

expressions to create the mood of the ensemble.

While attendees take in the latest clothing textures and

make-up shades, one tiny detail may go unnoticed: how they

are holding their purses.

How you handle a handbag is key to your overall look,

and can reveal a lot about you.

Here are some ways to carry yourself, and your purse:

The Drape

This look involves a bag with along strap slung over oneshoulder delicately. The longstrap lets the purse dangle freelyby your side, allowing the worldto still see your outfit.

The Celine

Tucked under your arm and pulledclose to your body, the Celineallows a look of elegance. Thislook works best with smaller bagsand clutches and is usually wornby celebrities at red carpetevents.

The Carrie

Often associated with CarrieBradshaw from “Sex and the City,”this purse-holding style is used bywomen in large cities in an effortto keep their bags close to them, and protect them from possiblethieves. This technique is createdby essentially putting your thumbto your armpit, using your elbowto keep the bag close to your side.

The Bracelet

A small purse with a shoulderstrap can be carried as a clutch, which is more feminine than usingits shoulder strap. It alsoshowcases a cute bag. Extrapoints for a chain strap, whichcreates a bracelet-like effect.

The Schlepper

For ladies with multiple bags, a layered effect does the trick. This look works best if you have a bag or two with along strap, and a bagwith handles. Layereffectively by placingone or two bags overyour shoulder andcarrying one bag by its handles.

The Swift

Most recently used by TaylorSwift, this bag trend is posh, chicand put-together. With a limphand, balance your purse on yourforearm to create a breezy, sleeklook. The one essential part ofthis trend is, however: don’tactually touch the purse withyour hands.

The Briefcase

Held by the handles and down by your side, the briefcaseimbues importance and mystery. This look works best for ladies on the move, and makes heavierbags easier to carry.

The No-Hands

Using a cross-body bag, thistechnique is best used when you need your hands free. A cross-body bag is extremelyuseful and convenient for the girl that is constantly on-the-go.The only downside is that thislook will cover up your outfit.

The Elbow

Perched gently andsophisticated, the purse finds a home in the cradle of yourelbow as you hold your arm at a 90-degree-angle. A look usedby many celebrities as they goout to lunch, it displays a sense of power and confidence, whilestill allowing you to be mostlyhands-free.

QQUALITY SERVICE MONITOR

GO WITH CHANGEChange was in the air in January2013 when AIRMALL launched thefirst phase of a significant overhaulof the retail program at PIT.

The $10-million renovation added ten new retail units at theCenter Core of AIRMALL betweenconcourses A and B and included acomplete renovation to the retailcorridor.

While the overall plan added nineunits for a total of 77 shops, restaurants, bars and other retailestablishments throughout theairport, what it didn’t add waspassenger inconvenience. Built in carefully planned phases, theyearlong construction did not havean impact on passenger flow, butit’s sure to have an impact onpassenger satisfaction.

Always trending upward. AIRMALL®

pushes the boundaries of airportretail, and the new fashion-forwardshopping experience at PittsburghInternational Airport (PIT) is thelatest example.

For two decades, the AIRMALL atPIT has been the gold standard forairport retail concessions in NorthAmerica. National as well asinternational retailers have chosenPittsburgh for their first airportlocation.

As the industry leader, AIRMALL is a proving ground for high-conceptretail initiatives.

Today, more than 20 years and a million non-stop flights afteropening, AIRMALL refuses to restand continues to reconfigure itsmodel to bring travelers the verybest in restaurants and retail.

GO WITH CHOICEAIRMALL has introduced a mix of high-quality national andinternational brands that peoplerecognize and trust, and high-quality regional/local brands thatinject local flavor – providing anopportunity for regional businessowners and passengers to discoverone another in a mutuallybeneficial way.

By including these locally ownedbusinesses, AIRMALL hopes to be a catalyst for economic growth and development in the region.AIRMALL encourages localentrepreneurs to take fulladvantage of the opportunities at the airport and build a businessfor themselves.

GO WITH DESIGNFar from cookie-cutter, predictableretail design, the AIRMALL is knownfor its curb appeal and cutting-edge design. Employing the latestmaterials and concepts, AIRMALLcreates a sense of place.

That’s why part of the airportproject included a redesign of itstile floor, which will be installed in phases over the next 14 to 18 months.

GO WITH QUALITYWhile AIRMALL enjoys celebratingits infrastructure victories, its mostlasting wins come from customersatisfaction, which led to theinstitution of Quality ServiceMonitors (QSMs).

AIRMALL was the first airportdeveloper to utilize the QSMprogram on airport property byconducting in-person interceptsurveys with airline passengers whohad visited and also made purchasesat the AIRMALL. The QSM programis now used at all of AIRMALL USA’sairports and has greatly enhancedcustomer service.

AIRMALL asked travelers what theywant, and is now giving it to you.

In a first-of-its-kind collaborationbetween a local artist and theairport, the Allegheny CountyAirport Authority will install a new terrazzo floor in the AirsideTerminal Center Core.

Allegheny County Airport Authority commissioned artistClayton Merrell, who has numerousaccolades and is an art professor atCarnegie Mellon University, todesign the floor.

The central element of Merrell’sdesign, which occupies a space thatis approximately 69,000 square feet,or 1.5 acres, is a vast blue sky withclouds, contrails and inlaidsilhouettes of aircraft.

He also designed large silhouettesrepresenting five iconic views ofPittsburgh neighborhoods andrecognizable landmarks, includingHeinz Field and PNC Park, theSmithfield Street Bridge,Monongahela Incline, Cathedral of Learning and historic CarrieFurnace.

NOW GO ENJOY…By introducing a host of newspecialty brands, the AIRMALL has continued to set the bar forhigh-end retail in the airport.

AIRMALL values fulfilling the needs of passengers by providingspecialty retail concepts andoffering a unique experience not seen at retail outlets.

With the conclusion of thisredevelopment, AIRMALL hascreated a unique shoppingdestination that transformsPittsburgh International Airportinto a vacation experience before passengers even board their planes.

CLASSICS CARRY ON

Everyone craves a fashionablebag. But before you mortgageyour future on a one-seasonwonder, consider investing in atimeless classic.

The Big BagBags get bigger with coolerweather because you havemore to carry —umbrellas, wraps and hats. The leatherbag doesn’t have to be boring;there are logoed styles, patent, exotic skins, quilting, bold hardware, bright colorsand much more — but themost classic looks have aladylike feel to them andunderstated luxury. Unlike anin-today/out-tomorrow "it"bag, the large leather bag willbe your faithful friend foryears. This is one splurgewhere you’ll get lots ofmileage on your investment.

Embrace Your Softer Side

Soft-sided luggage is far superior to hard-sided in carry-onsituations.

"For a carry-on bag, many people prefer soft-sided luggagebecause it has exterior pockets (hard-sided is just a moldedshell),” according to the Luggage Lady. “I know this ispersonal, but if you’re anything like me, your carry-on spends many hours as your faithful companion in terminalsand in-flight and you need quick access to all the stuff thatmakes your journey comfortable — reading material, documents, water bottle, mobile devices, tissues or glasses.

"Also, if you need to push a little to get your bag in theoverhead bin (and who doesn’t), a soft-side bag is what you need. No pockets? Can’t jam it into the bin? Not good.Soft-side wins the carry-on decision IMO."
