l. SUMHARY
D..il"ing the month or August, except for the di~pl? cement of the Entta.lion on 31 August 1951, the Th11--d Battalion, Fifth Marines was in rP.serve in the vicinity or INJI£ at DT 2802A.
Ae Tenth C.arps reserve, the Fifth Ma.rinee developed three counte,attack pla.ns in anticipation of changes in the tactical situation. Under plan ABLE and BAKER the 'l'hirn Battalion would oc(Upy and defend either one of two obJeotives on the WICHITA LINE. PLAN CHARl.IE, an alternative plan called ior the oocupation and defense of positions on the SWITCH LINE.
Contiru1ng 't~sta.llat1ona of these prev!ouely ordered defense pos1 tions along the WICHITA LINE, Marines and Korean policemen direeted the ..,rk of two hundred Korean lll.borers f,rom a work camp a.t DT 31:?17. Fort1fica.t1one bull t by the battalion extentled from DT 29l'ON to HILL 579 in the DT 3220 are~~. ConRtruction ~long the i<'ICHITA LINE was eighty percent finiAhed by the end of the month.
Set on the bank e of the SOYANG GANG, the campsite of the battalion was a pleasant one and improvements for the comforts and. enJoyment of all men "Jere made t..l-troughou t t..he month~ 'lh€l;.
men played voll<>yball, softbnll, basketball and horseshoes dally and movies were enJoyed every night. Pyramidal tents were erPC>t~d in pach company area for recreational purposPS and ~lectr1e· lights were installed.
Organized recreation was heightened by the performance, in the battallion area, of two special eerv1cea B!"lows and a band co nee ,<t by the First Marine Division BR.nd. A note of dlgnlty and solemnity was the high point of our stay at INJE ';;ri, th r~l ig~cu e eervi ~e~ nf rem~mbrance and the presenta. tio n of awards Rnd. decorationA at a formal battalion parade.
