Con linaugurazione del 7 dicembre, dopo due anni di cantieri e polemiche attorno alprogetto dellarchitetto svizzero Mario Botta, la Scala ha riaperto le sue porte al pubblico.Ma la nuova Scala oggi un organismo urbano inquietante e misterioso, che ha perso lasua originaria unitariet architettonica. Le due grandi protesi disegnate da Mario Bottahanno infatti completato la decostruzione del suo corpo edilizio, che oggi risultascomposto in almeno quattro parti: la facciata settecentesca disegnata dal Piermarini, la nuova imponente torre scenica, il volume ellissoidale dei servizi, la sala concertistica.Quattro edifici avvinghiati luno allaltro, in un difficile equilibrio. Ma, paradossalmente, proprio lo smembramento della sua architettura originaria harivelato la vera forza del Teatro milanese. Una forza che corrisponde interamente alla sua sala: un nucleo caldo, uno scrigno di simboli e ricordi, che ha resistito a qualsiasibombardamento e scomposizione. La sala della Scala la platea, i palchi, la bucadellorchestra oggi pi che mai un grande interno urbano, collegato nella memoria collettiva alla Galleria Vittorio Emanuele e a Piazza del Duomo. Rosso porpora,avvolgente, culla di impetuose correnti musicali, lo spazio di ascolto del Teatro alla Scala da solo unarchitettura. Cos potente da non aver bisogno di un esterno. Cos autonomada non aver bisogno di un prospetto sulla citt.
the proscenium. The second followed the decision three years ago to replace the old seventeenth-century scene machinery with a modern structure of mobile stages. With the inauguration on 7 December, la Scala has reopened its doors to the public after two years of construction and controversy surrounding the renovation by Swissarchitect Mario Botta.But the new la Scala is an alarming and mysterious urban organism that has totally lost its original architectural unity. The two large prostheses designed by Swiss architect MarioBotta have in fact completed the deconstruction of the buildings main body, which is now divided into at least four different parts: the small seventeenth-century facadedesigned by Piermarini, the new impressive stage tower, the ellipsoid services space, and the concert hall. These four buildings cling to each other in an uneasy balance. But paradoxically it is the breaking up of the original architecture that has revealed theMilanese theatres symbolic strength. This strength entirely corresponds to its main hall: a warm nucleus, rich with symbols and memories that has resisted every bombardment and fragmentation. La Scalas hall the stalls, the boxes and the orchestra pit is nowmore that ever an urban interior, connected in the collective memory to the spaces of the Vittorio Emanuele Gallery and Piazza Duomo. La Scalas orchestra space is anencircling, deep red cradle of impetuous musical currents. It is in itself a piece of urbanarchitecture, and so powerful as to have no need of an exterior; so independent that it requires no facade on the city.
