We saw a busy end to the first half with another successful Stick Bonspiel - congratulations to the big money winners, Randy & Ruby Olson and Doug & Bonnie Germsheid. We had a three way tie for third (Dan and Ron Rouault; Dennis Manning and Ed McDaid; Kerry Wardrop and Larry LaFleur). A great time was had by all and thanks go out to Brian Harvie and his volunteers for organizing, and our sponsor, Select Equipment Rentals, whose support included lunch vouchers for all the curlers and volunteers. A big thanks to Daun Wilton and her band of elves for the wonderful Christmas party, including Dennis Manning as MC and Al Eshpeter for his presentation of the Cremation of Sam Magee. It was a special evening full of laughter, great food, lots of door prizes and lively music for dancing. We must also acknowledge St. Albert Tune-up & Brake, and Servus Credit Union for their sponsorship of our Christmas party. The 2nd half is just around the corner, and we have our AGM scheduled for Monday, February 24th. A number of Executive positions are open and we encourage you to consider sharing your time and talents in support of our 200+ members. Our leagues and social activities are entirely organized by volunteers, who have been doing a tremendous job, some for many years. If our leagues are to continue to be successful, we need new people to step into the roles being vacated by these ‘super’ volunteers. You’ll hear more about these roles over the coming weeks. Lastly, I want to take this opportunity to officially thank Reg Kozlowski for sooooo many years as our Monday & Wednesday Spare Coordinator. Reg and wife Karen will be taking the second half off to travel to New Zealand to golf and lawn bowl until warmth returns to our great white north. I don’t honestly know how long Reg has been doing his magic to produce spares out of the blue, because he has been at it longer than I have been a member! Reg & Karen, we all wish you a glorious holiday and look forward to hearing all about it when curling season begins again in the fall. Have a terrific 2nd half everyone & hope to see you at the rink! Second-half Start Dates Regular curling will begin on Monday, January 6 th and Wednesday January 8 th . Stick curling will begin Friday, January 10 th and Tuesday, January 14 th . Safety Program Our Safety Initiative is wrapped up and we are very pleased that 42 members took advantage of the rebates. We also awarded prizes of helmet and grippers at the Christmas Party. It is a great start - our ongoing goal is to encourage safe practices while we enjoy the sport we love. 50+ MIXED CURLING LEAGUE NEED A SPARE?
