• Gartner Dataquest estimates the size of the secondary PC market to be 75 million computers in 2007.

• Secondary PCs are defined as all donated, repurposed and resold PCs regardless of whether they have been refurbished

• Tested/working IT equipment & parts can legally go anywhere in the world as products

• Refurbished PCs are found in all countries, even those where there is a small new PC market

• Key exporting countries are the US & Western Europe• Key importing regions are the Middle East, Africa, Eastern Europe,

China and Southeast Asia• Dominant trade patterns:

– US to Latin America, China and Southeast Asia, & India– Western Europe to Eastern Europe, Middle East & Africa– Japan to China, and Southeast Asia

• Reuse - equipment is tested, repaired or refurbished and sold to be used for its original manufactured purpose.

• Testing protocols for reuse – cosmetic / obsolete technology / parts recovery or replacement/ market demand / cost vs. value recovery.

• Preparing documentation for export – invoices / bill of lading / line item inventory / testing procedures / fumigation.

• Understand the regulations for Export.

• Correct notification for Export – DTSC / CUPA / USEPA / receiving Country.
