Congratulations to Anton Smirnov for his continued success in International Chess Competitions. Anton recently participated in the Oceanic Zone Chess Championship in Fiji. As a result of the competition, Anton became a FIDE Master, which is the 3rd highest chess ranking in the world. This is an outstanding achievement from a student at this age. The Zone Cross Country has been postponed to Wednesday, 29th May at St Ives Show Ground. Children have been enthusiastically training for this special event and we thank Mr Hills for his commitment to training the students. Thank you to the many mothers who attended the fun filled Mums’ Night Out. The mobile pizza caterers provided excellent food and the juke box played fabulous music! Special thanks to the many teachers who helped to make it such a special night. Last week, children in Years 3 and 5 participated in the NAPLAN tests. This nationwide assessment program provides parents with an indicator of progress in areas of Literacy and Numeracy. Results are due in September. The Year 2 Dance Group will be providing a special performance at the Awards Assembly next Monday, 27th May at 2.15 pm. The children are looking forward to the performance and I thank Miss Lee for providing expert dance lessons on Monday mornings. Last week Emma Bromley and I participated in a meeting with Traffic Engineers from the Ku-ring-gai Council to discuss improving children’s safety in front of the carpark area in front of the school. Engineers have agreed to provide drawings for further discussion. Currently the YMCA Vacation Care licence provides 32 places for children each day during the school holidays. This number of places meets the needs for our school. The licence also allows for children from other schools to attend this service. Bookings are based on a first come first served basis. I invite you to consider your vacation care needs and make a booking at the OOSH as soon as possible. The P & C will also be holding Holiday Workshops and information will be sent home in the next few weeks. Finally, our Years 3 to 6 Athletics Carnival will be held at Dunbar Park, Ryde on Monday, 17th June. The Kindergarten to Year 2 Athletics Carnival will be held at school on Thursday, 27th June from 10.30 am to 1.00 pm. More information will be sent home. All parents are invited to attend. P&C ASSOCIATION The P&C met this past week to discuss a range of ideas and issues including fundraising and spending, building works and committee reports. The Minutes from the meeting will be posted on the website shortly. Jasna Sims has agreed to head up the Grants Committee and Carey Francis the Technology Committee – details will be coming soon from those two committees and all parents are invited to join. The Fundraising Committee is busily organising both fundraising and social events including a parents’ social night. On the Uniform front it has been a big month. We have finalised the refunds for our old sports uniform from the (ex) supplier – a huge thank you to Leanne Power for helping Emma in this very unpleasant task. A new supplier has been chosen and the shirts and shorts have been ordered, the skorts are still in design phase and we will keep you informed as to when stock will be available from the Uniform Shop. The second-hand clothing pool has been revitalised by Kim Roberts. Over two days $800 worth of second hand stock was sold – we thank all parents who donated old uniforms, which contributes greatly to the fundraising efforts around the school. Thank you also to the volunteers who staffed the stall. Any second-hand items can be left at the school office – please leave washed items in a bag with your contact details on the outside. For each item that you donate you can go into a draw for a $20.00 voucher for Pizzamaster. The draw will take place on Tuesday, 25th June 2013. Urgently Needed: a Uniform Shop volunteer co-ordinator (similar to the canteen roster co-ordinator) is required to help Kim run the uniform shop. For more information please contact Emma on the details below. A new Canteen menu is available – the Canteen in its current state is financially unviable and the Canteen Committee met to discuss options. Thank you to Jenny Powell and the Canteen ladies Belinda and Fran for all their hard work in looking at ways to address the deficit. Changes have been made to improve Recess sales and attract more Lunch orders and we encourage all parents to support the Canteen. Please consider using the canteen regularly for your children’s morning tea and lunch orders. Copies of the menu can be found outside the canteen, on the School’s website or at the Office.

Our next meeting will be held in the Staff Room at 7.30pm Tuesday, 18

th June. An Agenda will be

available on the school website and posted on the P&C notice board. We invite you all to attend. BEAUMONT BITES NEWS

Chicken tenders are back! These are the same

tenders that were a Beaumont favourite for around

10 years. Order your crisp and tasty chicken

tenders for $1.50 each. Tomato sauce sachets for

your tenders or pies may be ordered for 20c each.

Hopefully all families received the updated menu

last week. All hot foods are now available to

order every day of the week. We hope this will

make it easier for busy families. However, sushi

must still be pre-ordered on Tuesday for Thursday

lunch.

We are continuing to make our fried rice,

marinated chicken roll, pasta bolognaise, pizzas

and topped jacket potatoes fresh in the canteen

for those who prefer a more home-style meal.

Slushies are now going into hibernation for the

cold months. They will likely make an appearance

again as the weather heats up later in the year.

Your feedback and suggestions are always

welcome. Jot them down and put them in our pink

box on the counter, or simply drop them in the

order chute if we’re not open.
