For most of the past twelve years a great portion of our attention and work has been focused on building needs here at Blessed Sacrament. Presently the pro-ject has been to repair the last section of the school roof that has not been repaired or replaced in these last 12 years. With the completion of this roof project we will have replaced or repaired all of the building roofs for the school, church, offices, and rectory, except for the roof on the rectory garage. In addition to this we have just recently replaced the air conditioner that serves the church and hope the new one will serve for the next 25 years. A few years ago we did the project to replace the roof of the church, add the eaves around the build-ing and provide ventilation into the church attic. Then as a follow up to that we repaired the ceiling in the church. At that same time we had a project to replace the lights in the church ceiling with the LEDS which has worked to save energy but has not worked as well as we were told it would as the lights still flicker and some fixtures some times don't seem to want to work. (we are still following up on this problem with the contractors who don't seem to know what the problem is.) We re-placed the windows in the upper level of the rectory that had rotted as well as put on the new siding to replace the wood siding that had rotted. In addition we have replaced the boiler in the school, even though we still have many problems with thermostats, pipes, radiators, etc. that have outlived their expected life span. We know that we have additional building needs we will have to address in the future such as replacing the win-dows in the gymnasium family center and in the west wing of the school building as these windows are single pane and not energy efficient, and some of the window frames in the gym windows are rusting or rotting away. At the same time that we need to take care of the buildings we have also tried to take care of the needs of the people who use those buildings. For the past few months the Parish Pastoral Council has been reflecting on whether or not we have been meeting those needs as well. One area they have identified in which they feel we are deficient is in the welcoming and greeting of new members of the parish. Presently new members contact the Parish Office and the ladies in the office as-sist them with whatever information they need to know or questions they have and then the individuals or fami-lies often introduce themselves to me at Mass. The Pastoral Council has suggested that we expand what we do by creating a group of parishioners who would serve as a welcoming committee for new members, contacting those members as they join the parish fami-ly, even inviting those new members to their homes for dinners so that they can get to know folks already here. If this might be something to which you feel called or in which you might be interested please just let Lori in the Parish Office know with a phone call or email. Once we have a group who would like to be welcoming to new members then we can get together and decide how we might want to do that and what might work best for all involved.

Help support our seminarians and priests— Bishop Walkowiak wants your feedback!

The Diocese of Grand Rapids will be conducting a feasibility study throughout July and August, and Bishop Walkowiak would like to hear from you. The study will gather feedback on a potential diocesan-wide capital campaign to support our seminarians and priests. A high level of responses from Catholics throughout West Michigan is needed to aid the bishop in making an informed decision on whether to move forward. Potential campaign goals include investing in the edu-cation of our growing number of seminarians, supporting specialized education for our priests, and funding the Priest Retirement Fund. The Steier Group, a Catholic development and fundraising firm, has been hired to conduct the study. A final recommendation on the viability of the campaign will be made in the early fall. Visit dioceseofgrandrapids.org for additional details on how you can partici-pate. Stay tuned to the bulletin throughout the study for regular updates.
