With the arrival of June 1st we have had a change in staffing here. Mary Bristol has been the business manag-er for Blessed Sacrament Parish since April 30, 2007. Since the creation of All Saints Academy her position has been 20% for Blessed Sacrament and 80% for All Saints Academy. Once we closed Blessed Sacrament School the Parish no longer had need of a full-time business man-ager since we only have two full-time and five part-time employees. All of the school employees are now employ-ees of All Saints Academy. As a benefit to both institu-tions we created a combined position for business manag-er and Mary has served in that position since its inception. She has decided that it is now time for her to retire so for the last month she has been training the new Business Manager that I hired to replace her, i.e., Amy Kelley. Amy lives in Rockford and is a member of Our Lady of Consola-tion Parish. Mary has been training her since April 30, and will continue the training during this month of June until Amy has a grasp of all of the responsibilities of the posi-tion. The plan is that the transition will be completed by the end of June, and then Mary will be officially retired. For those of you who were here when I came in Decem-ber of 2006, the elephant in the room at that time was the financial problems in the Parish. No one has been of more help to me in addressing those problems than has Mary. She has put in long hours over these years making sure that the financial numbers are accurate which was some-thing that had not been happening in the past. She has worked with the Finance Council members to provide them with the transparency that they now enjoy such that they can give me good counsel which it is their responsibility to do. (Have you noticed that I have announced that we are replacing the Church air conditioner but I haven't hit you up for money for it????) Most of you never had any reason to meet or get to know Mary as she was in her office at her computer each day paying bills and reconciling accounts. Even though you weren't aware of her work you should be as grateful as I am for her assistance over these years given that what she has done has been for your benefit and for the benefit of the children in the school. As she leaves this position after eleven years and as Amy takes over I ask that you keep both of them in your prayers -- Mary for a happy retirement and Amy for the patience and ability to continue providing to the Parish Finance Council and to me those numbers that we need such that we can continue to do our work of caring for you and your spiritual needs.

The ASA garden is awaiting your talents. Students started the plants from seed, planted them in the gar-den, and have been weeding during the school year. During the sum-mer all are invited to help weed and harvest during two weekly sessions. Join school families and staff begin-ning June 18th at either 6:30pm Mondays or 10:00am Thursdays, or both. The garden is located behind the middle school (1110 4 Mile NE) next to the playground. Feel free to bring your favorite gardening gloves and tools to use. You are welcome to keep any produce you harvest.
You can make your CSA dona-tion online by visiting our parish website. On the main page there is a link to the Diocese of Grand Rapids website. Go to that link and it will tell you how to make your donation. Don’t forget to reference Blessed Sacrament when filling out the form.
