Introduction
Observe and Obey:This procedure shall be completed by a persontrained and qualified on the repair of thismachine.
Immediately tag and remove from service adamaged or malfunctioning machine.
Repair any machine damage or malfunctionbefore operating the machine.
Before Starting Installation:Read, understand and obey the safety rulesand operating instructions in the appropriateoperator's manual.
Be sure that all necessary tools and parts areavailable and ready for use.
Read this procedure completely and adhereto the instructions. Attempting shortcuts mayproduce hazardous conditions.
Indicates that a specific result is expected afterperforming a series of steps.
Indicates that an incorrect result has occurredafter performing a series of steps.

Glossary of termsECM - Electronic Control Module.
GCON - Ground Controller. This ECM is located atthe ground controls.
PCON - Platform Controller. This ECM is locatedat the platform controls.
CAT5 Cable - Standard Ethernet cable used fornetworking purposes.

Procedure
Software VersionNote: Before proceeding verify the version ofsoftware installed on your machine. Thesoftware revision is displayed at the GCONLCD.
1 Pull out the red Emergency Stop buttons atboth the GCON and the PCON. At the GCONturn the key switch to ground controls.
Result: The display at the platform controls willshow "CH".
Result: The display at the ground controls willshow the machine model and hour meterinformation. After 3 seconds, the machinemodel will not show on the display.
2 Press the ground control scroll down button.
Result: The GCON LCD will indicate thesoftware revision and hour meter information.After 5 seconds, the ground controls LCD willreturn to machine model and hour meterinformation.

3 Push in the red Emergency Stop button to theoff position at both the ground and platformcontrols and turn the key switch to the offposition.

Loading or Updating MachineSoftwareNote: There are two procedures available toupdate the machine software. These areBootloader Mode and Machine ApplicationMode.
Bootloader Mode: The Bootloader mode is onlyavailable with the key switch in the GCONposition. It allows the user to update or reinstallthe software by directing the system into theBootloader and bypassing the applicationsoftware.
Choose this mode if the GCON ECM is notoperating correctly.
Machine Application Mode: The MachineApplication mode is available with the key switchin the GCON or PCON position. This mode ofsoftware update requires the user to enter theMachine Service Tool.
Choose this mode if the machine is operatingcorrectly and you are updating the operatingsoftware.
Bootloader Mode1 Open the GCON compartment.
Note: Some models will require opening theground control box to access the GCON.
2 Turn the key switch to the GCON position. Pullout the red Emergency Stop button to the onposition at the PCON.
3 At the GCON, press and hold the Enter andEscape buttons. Pull out the red EmergencyStop button to the on position at the GCON.
Result: The GCON LCD will display thefollowing screen.

4 Locate the diagnostic port on the side of theGCON. Remove one of the fasteners securingthe cover and set aside. Loosen the otherfastener. Do not remove it.

5 Connect one end of a CAT5 Ethernet cable intothe diagnostic port. Connect the other end intoa PC or laptop.
Result: The GCON LCD will display thefollowing screen.
6 Read and record the IP address.
PROCEDURE
7 Launch a web browser such as InternetExplorer ® or Firefox ® on your PC or laptop.Type in the IP address from step 6 into the webbrowser address bar and press enter.
Result: The following screen will be displayed.
8 Select the Choose File tab and navigate to thedownloaded Genie Flash File (.gff).
Note: Verify it is the correct flash file.
9 Select the Load Flash File button to verify thefile is a .gff file.
Result: The following screen will be displayed.

10 Select the Reprogram Device (s) button tostart the ECM software update.
Result: The following screen will be displayedafter the software update is complete.
Note: Do not turn off power while the ECM isbeing reprogrammed.
11 Select the Run Application button to exit thesoftware update mode.
12 Push in the red Emergency Stop button anddisconnect the CAT5 cable from the GCON.
13 Secure the diagnostic port cover using theretaining fasteners removed in step 4. Do notover tighten.
14 Perform function test. Refer to the Operator'sManual on your machine.
15 Return the machine to service.

Machine Application Mode1 Open the GCON compartment.
Note: Some models will require opening theground control box to access the GCON.
2 Turn the key switch to the GCON or PCONposition. Pull out the red Emergency Stopbuttons to the on position at the GCON andPCON.

Note: The username and password are casesensitive.
Username: smart.linkPassword: SL1000
Result: The following screen will be displayed.
8 Select the Software tab at the header bar.
Result: The following screen will be displayed.
9 Select the Update Machine Software button.
Result: The following screen will be displayed.
10 Select the Choose File button and navigate tothe downloaded Genie Flash File (.gff).
