First, the V MAX SHO conquered the bass circuit with four-stroke effi ciency and two-stroke performance. Then it spawned a new generation of vicious, little, I-4 predators. Now, the pack is prowling waters, with 20 and 25 inch shaft models. All with 16-valve double overhead cams and electronic fuel injection, their advanced tech packages take competition to a new level. It’s no wonder they’ve taken over the water. To see the latest in V MAX SHO tech, visit YamahaOutboards.com/i4VMAXSHO.

Welcome to the 2019 NPAA Conference On behalf of the NPAA Board of Directors, I would like to welcome each and every one of you to the 2019 Annual Conference! Our Conference theme this year is "Turn Ripples into Waves.” How real this is! With the huge surge of youth angling movement going forward, to the High School Student and Collegiate Competitive Angling, to the regaining of family members whom were "a generation lost." And how about Female Anglers? Women Anglers of Minnesota, for example, has grown from 150(ish) members a year ago to 500+ currently! The Ripples are indeed turning into Waves. As your President, getting people of all ages and backgrounds back to the sport of fishing has been my one of my most important objectives. This years Conference will see a Student Angler Panel, Featured Speakers Jacob Wheeler, Jordan Lee, and Glenn Hughes, and lots of informational Breakout Sessions, Partnering Company Breakouts, Future Angler Foundation (FAF) Benefit Banquet, and maybe even a card game or two... With great pride, I thank all of our Partners, Staff, and especially you, the Members, for making this a great Conference, and making the NPAA the great Organization that it is.

You’re a Member, Now Make Some Waves (Pat Neu)- This breakout session is designed for new NPAA members, guests, and partners to learn more about the NPAA and our mission. The entire conference will focus on the “Turning Ripples into Waves” and this orientation is designed to give the history on why the NPAA was formed, how it has evolved, what it can do for our members to assist them in making some waves that can help grow & protect sportfishing and, as importantly, assist members with their professional angling careers. There will also be plenty of time to ask questions about the NPAA and to give us feedback on why you have joined us as a member or partner.

Student Angler Panel: Turn Ripples into Waves (Seth Borton)- is an applicable concept for everyone at any stage in their professional journey. But what that looks like is vastly different from one sector or person to the next. The goal of this panel is to provide each of you the knowledge, insight, and encouragement to propel you through the next stage in your student angler journey. Panel members: Jordan Lee, Jimmy Bell, Jack Hippe, Grant Ehlenfeldt, Kyle Bahr

General Session Topic Descriptions

So You Want to Be a Pro Angler (Jordan Lee)- Jordan will talk about the journey to becoming a successful professional angler. It can vary from person to person, but he will share his story and hopefully inspire the audience to take the next steps toward a successful fishing career!

Making Waves On and Off the Water (Glenn Hughes)- Your passion for fishing can have a huge impact on sportfishing industry conservation. There are more than 800,000 jobs in the United State that exist because of recreational fishing, yet none are more important than what you can do as an individual. From those directly tied to the industry, to fisheries conservation to helping others have a great day on the water: we need you! Our speaker, Glenn Hughes, earned a degree in industrial engineering but quickly came to realize that his passion was fishing. His experience and desire to make a difference led him to the industry’s trade association of which he is now President. In this session, you’ll learn about what you can do to tie your passion into the multi-dimensional world of recreational fishing and help our next generation of anglers.

Making Ripples So You Can Make Waves (Jacob Wheeler)- Downtown Indianapolis, Indiana is the last place you think that the number one ranked bass angler in the world would come from. From riding his bike to the canal down the street, to the local boat ramp hoping someone would take him fishing for a Wednesday nighter, to competing at the highest level in professional bass fishing. Follow along as Jacob discusses all of the ripples that have happened in his life and career in bass fishing to help him create the waves that he has been able to ride, both good and bad.

Jacob Wheeler’s success began at a young age in the junior fishing programs where he captured angler-of-the-year and state cham-pionship titles, top ten finishes and Junior Bassmaster Classic appear-ances. In 2010, Wheeler finished 1st place in his first FLW Outdoors BFL division level tournament and

continued to qualify for the 2011 BFL All-American. In 2011, Wheeler made history as the youngest angler, 20 years old, to win the BFL All-American and he won with a wire-to-wire win. In 2012, his rookie year on tour, he dominated the competition with a wire-to-wire win at the FLW Outdoors Forest Wood Cup and entered the record books again as the youngest angler to win. Wheeler's winning ways have continued through his career including two Bassmaster Elite Series wins, a Major League Fishing Challenge Cup Championship, and numerous top 10's. He has surpassed $1,500,000.00 in tournament winnings at the ripe age of 28 years old and is currently ranked #1 in the world according to bassfan.com.

Jordan Lee is a two time Bassmaster Classic Champion from Cullman, Alabama. He fished the Bassmaster Elite Series for four years and will compete in the BPT Tour in 2019. He fished for Auburn University and graduated in 2013 with a

degree in Marketing.

Glenn Hughes is President of the American Sportfishing Association, which represents the sportfishing industry, as well as the nation’s 49 million anglers. He and the Government Affairs team work closely with the association’s members and

our state and federal governments to ensure the industry remains strong and that we collectively have clean water, abundant fisheries, access to the fish and participation numbers that continue to climb. Glenn spent more than 20 years in central Florida overseeing 10 fishing and boating magazines, a television show, international and domestic fishing tournaments and a multitude of websites. Some of his brands included Salt Water Sportsman and Sport Fishing, as well as Sport Fishing Television (SFTV). His team also produced fishing tournaments such as FishStock, The Bermuda Big Game Classic and the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament. Glenn graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a BS degree in Industrial Engineering and started his career as an engineer at Boeing Helicopter in Philadelphia, but soon realized that his passion was fishing. Glenn grew up fishing and boating on the freshwater lakes in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains and along the coast of New Jersey. He also lived on his boat on the Long Island Sound. Since then he’s fished all over the western hemisphere and caught species up to 750 lbs

from college, he signed on with Yamaha and Skeeter to share his story to the youth, high-school, and college anglers across the country. His goal is to save lives through his story, stress the importance of boating safety, and remind everyone that “there is a positive in every negative situation”.

Gail Thompson, CPA is happiest when she’s on the lake with her three favorite fishermen: her husband and their two sons (Danny and Dana). Although her joy comes from watching others celebrate a monster fish, she’s usually the one who lands the

prize catch. She simply loves the water and has a deep devotion to keeping it pristine for generations to come. When Gail’s not on the water, she enjoys helping anglers succeed in their business. She makes sure they understand the not-so-glamorous aspects of the sport, such as paying taxes on a big win or maintaining good records. She likes hearing fish stories, too.

Joe Rubenstein, CPA- For Joe’s family, a monofila-ment line is the tie that binds. Annual fishing trips—to Mille Lacs and Canada—serve as memory-making gatherings for the clan. One of Joe’s favorite memories, not surprisingly, is when he landed a 30 5/8-inch

walleye, his personal best. Minimizing professional athletes’ tax liability has long been a staple of Joe’s practice at Froehling Anderson. With innate knowledge of this challenge, Joe helps clients further their passion while keeping their pocketbook intact.

Ben Koenig, CPA has been

fishing his whole life. Some of his

favorite memories are fishing on

Lakes Superior and Michigan with

family. Annually, his family would

travel to different hot spots for

family fishing trips. He’s still

waiting for the record-setting fish.

At Froehling Anderson, Ben focuses his practices on

minimizing taxes within estates and trusts and helping

his clients through the complexity of estate planning.

Ben’s work helps client’s transfer their wealth to the

next generation, so his clients can focus on their

passions.

Seth Borton- February 2019 will

mark the start of my sixth year as the Head Coach of the Adrian College Bass Fishing Team. We have accomplished a lot in our first several years and I could not be more proud of the foundation that has been laid. Great anglers, great

partnerships and a lot of hard work on many fronts has been the foundation of our programs success. We have compiled six number one national rankings over this time and we are currently riding our longest streak at the top of over sixth months. Individual or team success is always a culmination of many things. I’m honored to be a part of the NPAA and to have the opportunity to reinvest in the future of our sport alongside some great professionals.

Dale Stroschein- began guiding under the name “Wacky Walleye Wizard” (the name affectionately given to him by his late father, Bill Stroschein) in 1985. During that time, he was also touring the Midwest as a Pro Walleye

Angler. He began building up a name for himself as a competitive angler and trusted guide. In 1999, Dale retired from tournament fishing and devoted his days to managing his resort (Sand Bay Beach Resort) and becoming a full time charter fishing guide. It was dur-ing that time that he met his now wife, Karyn. Dale is a National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame Angler and is the “Face” of Wacky Walleye Guide Service. Karyn works “behind the scenes” so-to-speak managing the fishing schedules of not only Dale, but of their other two full time guides as well. She is also responsible for all sponsorship contracts, phone call inquiries, emails and any hosted events by Wacky Walleye Guide Ser-vice. Together, they are a team who work hand in hand to ensure the ultimate success for their businesses.
