Tips to Remember TodaySee ECS website for more details

If you have not already done so, take a few minutes to identify

employers that are hiring your major and interest you. Consideremployers of all sizes. Understand that those without strong

name recognition are likely to have smaller applicant pools,

which increases the probability of getting an interview. You can

research employers on CyHire.

Explore the whole fair! Explore both floors of Scheman, and

the concourse and floor of Hilton. Consider talking to any

employer that is hiring your major, especially those that are

not very busy. This could lead to a beneficial conversation andit will help make them feel welcome so they will continue to

participate in our fairs.

Engage with employers:

1. Show initiative and confidence

2. Be enthusiastic about the employer’s products and work

3. Ask one or two questions about the employment

opportunities, type of work, company culture, etc. to show

interest in the company

4. Inquire about the possibility of an interview

5. Say "thank you" and try to collect contact information that

you can use for future networking

Take notes about the recruiter and company

Minimum content includes:

• Name, Major and Graduation Date• Position type desired and any connection you have to the employer

• Why you would like to work for the employer, based on your research

• Highlight how your skills match their open positions or culture

• Ask them to review your resume and consider you for an interview

Ex 1. Job Search: “Hello (smile and hand shake). My name is Jane Doe and I am

a sophomore in chemical engineering looking for an internship

this summer. I am currently taking core classes that are helping to

reinforce my interest in quality control and product improvementprocesses. Also this semester I am actively involved in two student

organizations AiChE and Engineers Without Borders, where I am

taking the lead on a service project. Last fall I visi ted your booth

and I really liked what I heard about the role of interns in your

manufacturing environment. I am very interested in continuing the

discussion of internships with you today. I would really appreciate it

if you would review my resume and consider me for an interview. ”

Ex 2. Networking:

"Hi, my name is John Doe and I am a sophomore in mechanicalengineering. I really like your product line and have heard that XYZ

corporation is a great place to work. I am doing a study abroad this

summer, so I am not currently seeking employment. However, your

company will be at the top of my list when I begin looking for an

internship at the next career fair. Could you take a look at my resume

and let me know what I should do to improve my chance of getting a

job at XYZ? Are there any classes you look for... any feedback you can

provide will be appreciated. Can I get your contact information so I

can reach out to you if I have any questions?”
