2016 Introductions Bath Collection

Folding ChairsGeorge Tsai started Fairmont Designs in an empty warehouse in 1984 with two folding chairs…one used as a makeshift desk.

Fairmont Designs is BornBefore establishing Fairmont Designs, George Tsai earned an undergraduate degree in engineering from Cornell, a master’s degree in engineering from UC Berkeley, and completed a stint at Proctor & Gamble. But when the young man saw his father struggling to produce tables for west coast importers, George decided he wanted to establish a business where he could be more autonomous and “control our own destiny.” And thus, the entrepreneur formed Fairmont Designs in 1984 with himself as the only employee. Knowing nothing about the industry, he learned quickly, attending San Francisco Home Furnishings Markets and talking to furniture industry veterans.

Team of ExpertsGeorge Tsai based the fledgling company in Los Angeles. He called on experts in product development, merchandising, and marketing to create initial dining room and table groups, an important import arena at the time. The line expanded, the company thrived, and Fairmont Designs established manufacturing facilities in China & Vietnam for total vertical integration. The company’s business model has always been to “build a global brand on our own, innovate products and service customers worldwide.”
