Change abounds in health care today. That’s what makes it exciting as the industry seeks to meet the chal-lenge of providing the right care, at the right time and at the right price. Kaiser Permanente, Colorado’s larg-est nonprofit health plan, continues to implement new strategies focused on innovation, convenience and greater care coordination to achieve the best health outcomes for our Northern Colorado members.

Conveniently located in Fort Collins, Greeley, and Loveland the Kaiser Permanente medical offices each feature a minimum of four primary care physicians and 20 medical professionals on-staff, many same day appointments, medical imaging, laboratory services, and pharmacy with Saturday pharmacy hours.

In addition to the physicians practicing at our Northern Colorado medical offices, Kaiser Perman-ente builds care teams for this community through a network of more than 400 primary and specialty care providers. This includes Banner Health and affiliated physicians in Larimer and Weld counties. Hospital care is coordinated at McKee Medical Center in Love-land, North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, and beginning in April 2015 at Banner Fort Collins Medi-cal Center. Kaiser Permanente and Banner Health have linked their electronic health records together, which

gives providers access to potentially life-saving patient information and improves overall care coordination.

Kaiser Permanente regularly assesses how technol-ogy, evidence-based research and collaborative care teams can be leveraged to provide streamlined, co-ordinated patient care. Through My Health Manager, our health plan’s free personal health record, members are able to connect with their physician using secure email, refill prescriptions and make or change appoint-ments online.

To truly be innovative, health care providers must incorporate technology to deliver coordinated patient care. An excellent example of Kaiser Permanente’s work in this area is our success in improving mem-ber hypertension (high blood pressure) control rates. Since 2008, we have increased their control rates from 61 to 82.6 percent by leveraging our robust system of electronic medical records to develop collaborative and actionable treatment plans. This success translates into real benefits for our members: they are less likely to suffer a heart attack or stroke.

The future of health care requires innovation, effi-ciency and collaboration to be successful. Kaiser Per-manente is proud to serve as an industry leader as we make Colorado a healthier place to live, work and play.

Wyoming-Montana Safety Council

The Wyoming-Montana Safety Council (WMSC) believes that one cannot be too safe. Just because a job or task was performed without any injury, it does not mean it was completely safe. Was it completed with no risks involved?

The WMSC was founded back in 1961 by a task force put together by the then Governor Jack Gage, in response to the accident problem facing the citizens and officials of Wyoming. Statistics at that time ranked Wyoming as one of states with the highest death rate.

Since that time the WMSC has continued a journey in finding solutions to keep workers and civilians safe so all could return home to family and friends without incident.

The WMSC Mission Statement reads – “To prevent incidents and injuries at work, home

and in the community by providing high quality safe-ty related education and information”.

The Safety Council continually develops new courses to carry out their Mission Statement. One such program is a full, well rounded Defensive Driving course – “Road Smart”. A truly innovative approach to raising the bar of a driver’s skills. The course has many topics which can be tailored to the needs of the car or truck driver. The dia-mond in this series of instruction and education is “Skid Training”. Since Wyoming is one of the states with its fair amount of winter weather and challenging road condi-tions, the council has available both a car and pickup truck that are outfitted with special engineered wheels that simulate skidding. All of the actions and responses needed to avoid and recover from an ice skid are dupli-cated with these vehicles giving the student a complete

understanding of what is needed to drive safely in winter conditions.

The Safety Council has a multitude of course offer-ing including First Aid/CPR/AED, Defensive Driving (a course that will possibly reduce your auto insurance), OSHA and MSHA courses, and many work related courses. We pride ourselves in being the one stop source for safety training so your business will be in compliance with the latest regulations from OSHA.

Our staff is made of well-seasoned individuals with many years of practical experience in the safety field. As mentioned, we are headquartered in Cheyenne, WY but we are prepared and willing to present classes at your fa-cility or locale.

The Safety Council works with many of the large com-panies and corporations thru out Wyoming and Mon-tana such as Holly Frontier, BP, Croell Contractors, S & S Builders, etc.

The Safety Council is also a member chapter of the National Safety Council (NSC) headquartered in Itasca, Illinois (a suburb of Chicago). NSC is the nation’s leading safety advocate for more than 100 years.

Our present day facilities include a 15,000 square foot building that is half offices/classrooms and half ware-house. We are now able to accommodate multiple small and large classes daily. Our warehouse serves as a class-room with a workplace flavor. In inclement weather we can hold classes that would not be normally done because of the adverse conditions. Some classes we have done in our warehouse are fall protection with real situations, skid steer units, fork lifts, scaffolding, large track hoe training and fire extinguisher training to mention only a few.

Safety, a never ending responsibility for all of us
