og spiraler Før det endelige valg af materiale finder sted, er det afgø-rende at man har et indgående kendskab til de omgivelser og forhold som slangen eller spiralen skal arbejde under. For-kert valg kan forårsage vanskeligheder under installation, manglende funktionalitet eller i værste fald nedbrud af slan-gen eller anden defekt. Palle Knudsen Kunststoffabrik ApS har siden slutningen af 1950’erne produceret og rådgivet kunder i design og materia-le valg, og kan tilbyde denne service for at sikre, at det rigtige materiale anvendes til den givne anvendelse. GUIDE Choice of material for hoses, tubes

and spirals It is of great importance to have a solid knowledge of the environment in which the hose or spiral hose is placed, before the final choice of material is made. Picking the wrong material may cause problems during installation, lack of functionality and in the worst case, cause a break down of the hose or other kind of defect. Palle Knudsen Kunststoffabrik ApS has produced hoses and profiles in thermo-plastics since the late 1950’ies, and are able to advice customers in design issues and choice of material, to ensure that the correct material is chosen for the application at hand. To specify the most suitable material, it is important to have a minimum knowledge about the following conditions: • Temperature

Materiale: Modificeret Polyamid 12 (PA26)

Material: Modified Polyamide 12 (PA26)

Karakteristik: Super fleksibel høj kvalitets pneumatisk slange, som tilbyder bedre termiske og mekaniske egenskaber samt tryk resistens end PA 11 SF. Materialet er hvidt, som naturfarve. Fleksibilitet er på niveau med PUR, men PA 12 SF er bestandig overfor hydrolyse (nedbrydning i vand).

Characteristics: Super flexible high quality pneumatic hose, which offers better me-chanical and thermal properties as well as pressure resistance than PA 11 SF. The material is white, as its natural colour. Flexibility is equal to PUR, but moreover PA 12 SF is resistant to hydrolysis (breakdown in water).

Karakteristik: Super fleksibel høj kvalitets pneumatisk slange med særdeles gode mekaniske og kemiske egenskaber, som bevarer sin fleksibilitet gennem hele sin levetid. Fleksibilitet og trykbestandighed på niveau med PUR, men bestan-dig overfor hydrolyse (nedbrydning i vand).

Characteristics: Super flexible high quality pneumatic hose with particular good mechanical and chemical properties and keeps the flexibility throughout its lifetime Flexibility and pressure resistance is equal to PUR, but moreover PA 11 Superflex is resistant to hydrolysis (breakdown in water).

Karakteristik: Pneumatisk slange med fremragende fleksibilitet og bestandighed over for ”kink” (sammen klapning af slangen, når den bøjes) og anvendes derfor ofte når en minimal bøje radius er påkrævet. Karakteristik: Superfleksibel pneumatisk polyurethan slange med forbedret fleksi-bilitet og bestandighed over for kink (sammen klapning af slangen, når den bøjes) sammenlignet med PUR S98. Glansfuld og glat overflade og en god ”touch feeling”. Prisen for den større fleksibilitet og kink bestandighed er lavere tryk bestandigheden i forhold til PUR S98. Ringe bestandighed over hydrolyse og anbefales ikke til kontakt med vand, benzin og dieselolie. Fås i transparente versioner.

Characteristics: Super flexible pneumatic polyurethane hose with improved flexibility and kink resistance compared to PUR S98. Glossy and smooth surface and a nice “touch feeling”. Often used where minimum bending radius is required. The cost of achieving the better flexibility and kink properties is a lower pressure resistance versus PUR S98. Pure resistance to hydrolysis and is not recommended for applica-tions in contact with water and hydrocarbons. Available in transparent versions.

Karakteristik: Fleksibel pneumatisk slange, som er særdeles velegnet i et kemisk miljø. PVDF har bedre mekaniske egenskaber end alle andre fluor-polymer, hvilket udmønter sig i et meget højt arbejdstryk. Har endvidere exceptionel god UV bestandighed.

Material: Copolymer based on Ethylene and Tetrafluoroethylene (ET01)

Karakteristik: ETFE er et velegnet lav pris alternative til PTFE Teflon, som kan tilbyde næste samme bestandighed overfor kemikalier med et ar-bejdsområde op til +150°C. Tryk bestandigheden er bedre end for PFA op til +140°C, men min-dre god end PVDF. Overflade hårdhed og fleksibilitet er identisk med PA Hård.

Characteristics: ETFE is a splendid low price alternative to PTFE Teflon offering almost the same chemical resistance at a working temperature up to +150°C. Pressure resistance is higher than PFA up to +140°C, but lower than PVDF. Hardness and flexibility equal to PA Hard.

Karakteristik: FEP er et interessant lav pris alternative til PTFE Teflon, da egen-skaberne er meget lig hinanden, blot er FEP transparent og mere fleksibel. Bestandigheden overfor kemikalier er næsten identisk med PTFE, med et arbejdsområde op til +205 °C. FEP’s overflade hårdhed er lavere end PFA, men fleksibiliteten er identisk.

Characteristics: FEP is an interesting low price alternative to PTFE Teflon as it exhib-its the same properties as PTFE, but is transparent and more flexi-ble. The chemical resistance is almost identical to PTFE with a working temperature reaching +205°C. The surface hardness of FEP is lower than PFA, but flexibility is equal.

PP er stivere end HDPE og har bedre mekaniske egenskaber ved højere temperaturer. PP-C, som er tilsat 2-5% polyethylen, er mere transparent end PP-H og har større sejhed og fleksibilitet, men ringere termisk bestandig-hed ved høje temperaturer, men bedre slagstyrke ved temperaturer under nulpunktet. Karakteristik: Duoslangen består af 2 slanger overtrukket med en ekstra tynd transparent EVA kappe. Kappen fjernes let og slangerne kan tilkobles fittings eller andet. Duoslange m/kappe er et funktionelt alternativ til den traditionelle PUR duoslange, som er svejset eller limet sammen, idet der ikke er nogen deformation af slangen efter svejsningen til tvillingslangen. Designet muliggør endvidere at duoslangen kan fremstilles i andre materialer end kun PUR.

Characteristics: The duo-hose consist of 2 hoses covered with an ultra thin EVA jacketing. The jacketing is easily removed and is then connected to fittings or others. This duo-hose is a functional alternative to the traditional PUR duo- hose, which is welded or glued together, as there is no deformation on the hose after welding to the twin-hose. Moreover the design allows the duo-hose to be made in other mate-rials than just PUR.

KEMIKALIE RESISTENSLISTE Et plastmateriales bestandighed over for kontakt med kemikalier er stærkt afhængig af det enkelte materiales opbygning og struktur, ligesom temperatur og tiden spiller en afgørende rolle. Man bør være opmærksom på at selv om et materiale er bestandigt overfor et bestemt kemikalium, kan materialet svigte, hvis det samti-digt er udsat for en mekanisk belastning, så som tryk, slid eller slag. Følgende liste over 6 forskellige polymerers resistens overfor en række kemikalier er resultater af afprøvninger udført af råvare leve-randøren i henhold til standard procedurer. Tabellen er en guide og resultaterne skal betragtes som gennemsnitsværdier uden garanti fra vor side. PA 11 / PA 12: PA 11 har god bestandig overfor: - brændstoffer (hydrocarbon baseret), smøremidler (olier og fedt), baser, salt vand, maritim atmosfære, salt opløsninger og en lang række opløsningsmidler som alkohol, ketoner, ester og ether PA 11er ikke bestandig over for: - mange syrer, stærke baser og oxidationsmidler - klorbaserede produkter Bestandigheden over for mange organiske syrer, mineralske salte, stærke baser og oxidationsmidler begrænset og direkte afhængig af den kemiske komposition, temperatur og koncentration. Agtpågi-venhed bør udvises, når kemikalier som ikke alene angriber poly-amid 11 og 12, blandes. Fenoler, myresyrer og nogle fluor alkoholer kan have en opløs-ningseffekt på polyamid. PVDF: PVDF er bestandig over for: - de fleste mineralske og organiske syrer, oxiderende miljøer, kul-brinter, alkoholer og halogen opløsningsmidler. PVDF er ikke bestandig over for: - fluor, varm svovlsyre, varme konc. alkalier og opløsningsmidler som acetone ethylacetat, hvor PVDF kvælder op.

PP: PP er bestandig over for: - de fleste vandige opløsninger af salte, syrer og baser samt alkohol og enkelte olier PP er ikke bestandig over for: - oxiderende kemikalier (salpetersyre, olium og halogener) samt kulbrinter som forårsager kvældning - de fleste kemikalier ved temperaturer > 60 °C. HDPE / LDPE: HDPE er bestandig over for: - de fleste vandige opløsninger af salte, syrer og baser. HDPE er ikke bestandig over for: - stærkt oxiderende kemikalier (salpetersyre, olium og halogener) - de fleste kemikalier ved temperaturer > 60 °C. Symbol forklaring: N = Ikke resistent L = Begrænset resistent * = Kvælning ** = Misfarvning

CHEMICAL RESISTANCE CHART The chemical resistance of a plastic material strongly depends on the composition and structure of the material, the ambient tempera-ture and exposure time. One have to be aware that even though a material is resistant to a certain chemical, the material might fail, if it is exposed simultane-ously to mechanical strain such as pressure, abrasion or impacts. The following chemical resistance chart for 6 different polymers versus a wide range of chemical compositions is a result of tests carried out by the raw material supplier according to standard procedures. The chart is meant only as a guide and has to be regarded as average values and do not constitute a warranty of any kind from our side. PA 11 / PA 12: PA 11 / PA 12 shows good resistance to: - bases, salt solutions, salt water, marine atmospheres, oils, greases and petroleum products PA 11 / PA 12 is not resistant to: - many acids, strong bases and oxidizing agents - chlorine based products Resistance to mineral salts, organic acids and strong oxidizing agents varies with the chemical group involved, concentration and temperature. The same applies to mixtures of chemicals which alone do not attack polyamide 11 and 12, but when mixed together can produce synergistic reactions. Phenols and formic acid are powerful solvents and are used for certain application techniques. Some fluoroalcohols also have solvating characteristics. PVDF: PVDF is resistant to: - most mineral oils and organic acids, oxidising environments, hydrocarbons, alcohol and halogenous solutions. PVDF is not resistant to: - flour, warm sulphuric acid, warm concentrated alkali and solutions like acetone ethyl acetate, in which PVDF will swell. PP: PP is resistant to: - most aqueous solutions of salts, acids and bases plus alcohol and some oils PP is not resistant to: - oxidizing chemicals (nitric acid, oleum and halogens) also hydro-carbons which causes swelling - most chemicals at temperatures > 60°C. HDPE / LDPE : HDPE is resistant to: - most aqueous solutions of salts, acids and bases HDPE is not resistant to: - highly oxidizing chemicals (nitric acid, oleum and halogens) - most chemicals at temperatures > 60°C. PERMEABILITY The permeability for a plastic surface indicates gasses or fluids ability to permeate through the surface. The permeability is expressed as the volume pr. time in relation to area and thickness. The permeability is also depending on temperature.

UL 94 is a plastics flammability standard released by Un-derwriters Laboratories of the USA. The standard classifies plastics according to how they burn in various orientations and thicknesses. From lowest (least flame-retardant) to highest (most flame-retardant), the 6 levels of classifications are:

ANTISTATISK KLASSIFIKATION En af ulemperne for de fleste termoplastiske materialer er den mulige elektriske opladning af overflade. F.eks. er det muligt at oplade overflade ved at lade en vedvarende luft-strøm hen over et plastemne. Opladningen kan resultere i at støv og snavs sætter sig på overfladen eller i værste fald gnistdannelse. Elektrostatisk opladning kan undgås eller reduceres ved:

• høj luftfugtighed (>65%) • ionisering af luften • tilsætning af additiver

Ved at tilsætte f.eks. kønrøg (carbon black) til plast polyme-ren kan man opnå en antistatisk effekt. For at opnå en høje-re effekt tilsættes specielle additiver. Klassificering:

ANTISTATIC CLASSIFICATION One of the drawbacks of most thermoplastic materials is the possible electrical charge of the surface. As an exam-ple it is possible to charge a surface by simply blowing an air stream over the surface. The charging may result in surface build-up of dust and dirt, with a risk of creating sparks. Electrical charging may be reduced or at the best avoided by:

• high moisture content (>65%) • ionisation of the air • adding additives

Additives such as carbon black are an effective way to obtain a permanent antistatic effect. For higher effects other types of additives are used. Classification:
