1St Symeon was actual ly over 325 years old, having been kept al ive by God. When the

ancient Holy Scriptur es were being translated into Greek, (the Septuagint) he hadquestioned the word Vi rgin for the Mother of the Messiah so Archangel Gabriel not on lytold him that truly a Virgin would bear the Messiah the Incarnate Son of God but thatSt Symeon would live to witness it personally.

St Symeon remained at the Temple of Jerusalem al l those years, watching the youngTheotokos grow up and then bringing Her new born Son to the Temple to fulfil l all OldCovenant Laws. Being the oldest of the Temple Elders, St Symeon (and St Hannah theProphetess) knew the complete Truth concerning the Virgin Theotokos, our Lord JesusChrist and their aged Guardian, St Joseph the Betrothed a most Righteous and honestold uncle - who had been chosen by God to take care of the young Virgin, Her Vi rginCompanions and Christ.

straight, and the rough ways shall bemade smooth; and all flesh shall seethe Salvation of God.

He said therefore to the multitudes thatcame out to be Baptised by him:You brood of vipers! Who warned

you t o f lee f rom the Wrath to come?Bear fruits that befit Repentance, anddo not begin to say to yourselves, Wehave Abraham as our Father for Itell you: God is able from these stonesto raise up children to Abraham.

Even now the axe is laid to the root ofthe trees; every tree therefore thatdoes not bear good fruit is cut downand thrown into the fire!

And the multitudes asked him: Whatthen shall we do?

He answered them: He who has twocoats, let him share with him who hasnone; and he who has food, let himdo likewise.

Tax collectors also came to be Baptised, and said to him: Teacher, what shallwe do?

And he said to them: Collect no morethan is appointed you.Soldiers also asked him: And we, what

    shall we do?

And he said to them: Rob no one byviolence or by false accusation, andbe content with your wages.

As the people were in expectation, andall men questioned in their heartsconcerning John - whether perhapshe were the Christ - John answeredthem all: I Baptise you with water;but He Who is Mightier than I iscoming, the strap of Whose sandals I

am not worthy to untie; He willBaptise you with the Holy Spirit andwith Fire. His Winnowing Fork is in

His Hand, to clear His ThreshingFloor, and to gather the Wheat intoHis Granary, but the chaff He willburn with Unquenchable Fire.

With many other exhortations, hepreached Good News to the people.
