College Preparatory ENHANCING LEARNING THROUGH TECHNOLOGY

• 1:1 Student Computing Program: In 2012, Carmel Catholic launched its 1:1 Student Computing Program, positioning Carmel Catholic as the leading digital high school in Lake County and among the first in the Chicago area. The 1:1 program enables each student to have his or her own tablet computer. Should an issue arise with a student’s tablet, the Tab Lab is open throughout the school day for expert technology support. Carmel Catholic passed the appropriate certifications to become a self-maintainer for the Lenovo Thinkpad Tablets, so they are serviced in-house whenever possible. Additionally, each classroom is fully equipped with a screen projector and sound system that attaches to the teacher’s laptop.

• Information Commons: During the summer of 2013, Carmel Catholic completed renovating, expanding and upgrading its existing library to transform it into a state-of-the-art Information Commons. New features include small group study rooms, a 10-station Apple Mac lab and an audio/media production studio.

• Edline: A secure and user-friendly website provides parents and students with timely and direct access to current grades, homework assignments, class progress, attendance and general school news.

HONORS & AP CLASSES

• A variety of Honors and AP courses are targeted to students who have excellent academic performance. The Honors Program is specifically designed to meet the needs of high performing and motivated students. During sophomore through senior years, students may take advanced placement classes, allowing them to earn college credit. There are 19 AP and 52 Honors courses offered at Carmel Catholic.

CampusPRAYER AND SACRAMENT: Each school day begins and ends in prayer. All class periods, assemblies, school liturgies, athletic events and extracurriculars begin in prayer as well.

CHRISTIAN SERVICE PROGRAM—ADOPTING A SERVANT’S HEART: Carmel Catholic believes that the spiritual growth students experience through ministry to others will lead to a lifetime commitment to service. All Carmel Catholic students participate in the school’s Christian Service Program, which requires each student to donate 20 hours of services to the community each semester. Upon graduation, 160 hours of Christian service will have been completed.

KAIROS RETREAT: Seniors participate in a Kairos retreat one time during their high school experience. Described by many students as “life-changing,” these four-day faculty and student-led retreats give young people a chance to see God at work in their daily lives.

StudentACADEMIC SERVICES: Guidance counselors assist students with questions involving their academic life, career plans and college applications. Students are assigned a counselor for all four years of the Carmel Catholic journey.

COLLEGE AND CAREER RESOURCE CENTER: The College and Career Resource Center helps students gain acceptance into some of the finest universities in the nation by guiding students and parents each step of the way. Carmel Catholic’s college counseling program begins during sophomore year when students gain insights into their academic strengths and interests. During junior year, students have the opportunity to meet representatives from colleges and universities during the school day or during numerous College Resource Nights held throughout the year.

SOCIAL SERVICES: The school social worker assists students with making healthy life choices by offering a variety of support services including individual counseling, support groups and outside counseling referrals.

THE ADMISSIONS PROCESS

Step 1: Take the Entrance ExamAll students entering ninth grade must take the entrance exam, which will be administered on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 8 a.m. Following the exam, the admissions committee reviews the test scores and admissions application. Test reservations are not necessary.

Step 2: ApplyComplete and return the application for admission with all requested information to Carmel Catholic High School by Friday, January 24, 2014.

Step 3: AcceptanceOnce your application is reviewed, you will receive a decision letter in mid-February.

Carmel Catholic Factors that influence admission to Carmel Catholic High School include: the prospective student’s entrance exam score, junior high school report cards, previous standardized test scores, participation in co-curricular activities, the junior high school attended by the student, as well as legacy relationships with Carmel Catholic.

TUITION AND FEES: The Board of Directors approves tuition annually. There are additional fees for athletics, certain classes, course materials and some clubs. Tuition for the 2013-2014 school year is $9,950. Carmel Catholic offers three payment plans: payment in full, two-payment plan (one payment at the beginning of each semester) and a monthly plan. All freshman applicants are required to make a deposit at the time of application. If the student is accepted, this payment is non-refundable. It includes a registration fee and tuition deposit. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AND SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES: Carmel Catholic High School has a financial aid assistance program available to families who qualify. Upon completion of the application process, families must complete a confidential financial assistance application and submit the application to the outside vendor who evaluates the application. For the 2013-2014 school year, Carmel Catholic awarded approximately $1.3 million in financial assistance.

• EARLY CONSIDERATION (Incoming freshman only): Submit your application for financial aid by January 31, 2014 and provide all necessary support documentation by February 7, 2014. You will receive results of your financial aid in February.

• STANDARD CONSIDERATION: Submit your application for financial aid

and all necessary support documentation by April 1, 2014. You will receive results of your application in early June.

• Financial Aid applications received after April 1, 2014 will still be considered.

• In addition to the financial assistance offered by Carmel Catholic, a number of

partial scholarships are given annually. Scholarship eligibility is based only on results from the entrance exam administered at Carmel Catholic High School on the actual test date.

GETTING TO CARMEL CATHOLIC:

In addition to Metra Rail services, PACE suburban bus services and free Mundelein and Libertyville High School buses, the following subsidized bus routes are available for morning pick-up and afternoon drop-off: 1) Barrington/Lake Zurich, 2) Wauconda/Mundelein Township, 3) Antioch/Gurnee, 4) Lake Forest, 5) Mundelein Train Station (a.m. only) and 6) Buffalo Grove. All routes are subject to subscription and a minimal participation fee.

On-campus parking is available to all senior students and some junior students.

Carmel Catholic provides supervision to students who arrive at school as early as 6:30 a.m. and leave as late as 6:00 p.m.

OPEN HOUSE AT CARMEL CATHOLIC: Sunday, November 3, 2013, 12 p.m. Each year Carmel Catholic hosts an Open House for prospective students and their families—an excellent opportunity to gather general information, tour the campus and meet our students, faculty and administrators.

SHADOW DAYS FOR 7TH AND 8TH GRADE STUDENTS: Carmel Catholic offers Shadow Days as a means to learn about the school on a first-hand basis. During a Shadow Day, prospective students are paired with a Carmel Catholic Student for the entire school day. Eighth grade students can experience a Shadow Day during the fall semester, or during the spring semester if they have been accepted to Carmel Catholic.
