The other day I had to go to Sassuolo, to complete

the Ceramic Futures projects.

Normally, I would have gone by train.

This time, I preferred to fly. A night flight, behind

Finland

For 75 years, Finland's expectant mothers have

been given a box by the state. It's like a starter kit

of clothes, sheets and toys that can even be usedas a bed. And some say it helped Finland achieve

one of theworld's lowest infant mortality rates.

It's a tradition that dates back to the 1930s and it's

designed to give all children in Finland, no matterwhat background they're from, an equal start in

life.

The maternity package - a gift from the

government - is available to all expectantmothers.

Makoko Floating School

Makoko Floating School is a prototype floating

structure, built for the historic water communityof Makoko, located on the lagoon heart of Nigeria

s largest city, Lagos.

As a pilot project, it has taken an innovative

approach to address the communitys social andphysical needs in view of the impact ofclimate

change and a rapidly urbanizing African context.

Its main aim is to generate a sustainable,

ecological, alternative building system and urbanwater culture for the teeming population of

Africas coastal regions.
