Welcome to lanterna

Dear Prospective Student,

At Lanterna Education, we believe that a personal, innovative and inspirational approach is the

key to success. This belief shapes our approach to students and to teaching, and lies at the

heart of our devotion to helping students improve their academic ability. Our tutors are elite IB

alumni with a passion for teaching who know exactly what it takes to ace the exams – and who

would like to pass on their advice to you.

Apart from having superb knowledge of the content and excellent communication skills, our tu-

tors also share our belief in being personal, innovative and inspirational. Over the years, we and

our tutors have helped thousands of IB students attain excellent results through our intensive

revision and exam preparation courses: we call it The Lanterna Way.

The response from our past students has been overwhelmingly positive and we hope that you

too would like to follow in the footsteps of all those who have gone The Lanterna Way and been

rewarded with examination success. We would therefore very much like to see you on one of

our courses and look forward to helping you improve your chances of better grades.

Warmest regards,

Nicholas Johansson

Director & Founder

ScholarshipsWe offer scholarships on all of our courses. Our scholar-ship program has several places, and each student accepted into it receives a free course. Access to the Lanterna scholarship programme is based on financial hardship, academic need, or extraordinary CAS activities.

Study Skills PresentationsWe frequently visit schools to give study skills seminars, offering different seminars for the various stages of the IB program, each tailored to the students’ needs at that specific stage. The presentations are held from our tutors’ perspective as IB graduates and focus on what they wish they had been told when they were in the IB.

our approach

Summary

At Lanterna we have identified three main problem areas that keep students from getting the grades they want. Our courses will make you aware of these areas and then help you target them to improve your grades.

4 Lanterna IB Courses - The Lanterna Way www.lanternaeducation.com

The three problemsStudents who aren’t getting the grades they want

tend to have:

1. gaps in their knowledge,

2. problems remembering, or

3. trouble applying knowledge to exam

questions.

At our courses, we focus on these problems

specifically using what we call The Lanterna Way to

make sure that nothing stops you from achieving

better grades.

How The Lanterna Way helps you overcome the three problems stopping you from getting the grades you want:

The Lanterna Way - student success

How We Help: The Lanterna Way

using the summer breakWith so much free time before classes start again,

the summer is the perfect time for you to assess

your subject knowledge and prepare yourself for

the important year ahead. That is why hundreds

of IB students from all over the world come to our

courses over the summer months, taking the first

step towards improving their chances of better

grades.

our summer coursesIn summer 2012, we are offering both pre-IB and

mid-IB courses at our centres in Sweden and the

UK. Our summer courses are all-inclusive and offer

a safe, relaxed and yet focused environment in

which you can prepare for the coming year – and

have a lot of fun, too!

Understanding knowledgeKnowing what is relevant for you and under-standing how to acquire this material are the two most important aspects to preventing gaps in your knowledge. At Lanterna, we work with close reference to the syllabus to cover all the aspects needed with extensive information – all of it relevant to your exams.

Remembering knowledgeWe don’t need to tell you that if you can’t remember what you need to for the exams, the standard of your answers will be lower than it should be. Our courses tackle this problem by first structuring information to make it easier to take in and then letting you repeat all the information you need, as much as you want. They also include helpful tips and tricks to help you retain the material.

Applying knowledgeDepending on how you apply it, you can use the same amount of knowledge to score a four or a seven in an exam question: closing the gap between having and using knowledge is vital for higher marks. First of all, we make sure that you understand the question you are answering, and then help you answer it correctly by providing the relevant structure and knowledge.

Improved gradesUsing the Lanterna Way, we help you target these three problem areas – and improve your chances of getting the grades you want.

Your IB CareerAnd how our courses can help you at all stages of the two year IB diploma programme

““The best thing about the tutors was the fact that they are all previ-ous IB students! That was a real bonus seeing as since they know what we’re going through, they made learning eas-ier by telling us exactly what we need to know and what we don’t.”

Patti, Mid-IB summer student
