Overview

The PSS SW QLD service tool is a supplement to the PSS SW PGsystem software. It provides only the most important functions of the systemsoftware, making it easier to operate.

Purpose:• To transfer projects quickly, e.g. for service

• To avoid unauthorised access

• To avoid improper use

The service tool provides the “Project” and “On-line” menus from the systemsoftware. All options which amend a project have either been removed orhave had the save function disabled. This means that the service tool isunable to amend a project. The “Configurator” option in the “On-line” menu is the only option that isunique to the service tool and does not appear in the system software. This option can be used to display the configuration of the PSS project.

INFORMATIONThe selectable options are described in detail in the operating manual for thePSS SW PG system software The menu overviews in the manual’s Appendixshould help you find the descriptions more easily.

There are two versions of the PSS SW QLD service tool:PSS SW QLD for MS-DOS (also MS-DOS under Windows 3.1 andWindows 95/98) and PSS SW QLD for Windows NT 4.0 orWindows 2000.

INFORMATIONThe PSS SW QLD service tool is updated in parallel to the systemsoftware PSS SW PG. Changes made to the PSS SW PG systemsoftware from one version to the next are listed in the file called “info.text”.Once you have installed the service tool you will find the “info.txt” file in thesame directory in which you installed the tool.

Encoding the service tool

By encoding the service tool it will only be possible to activate the packagewith the command lines described above. Encoding means that onlyselected options will be made available to the user.

NOTICEOnce the service tool has been encoded, it can no longer be started bycalling up the file pssqld. Only the options entered in the encoding will bepermitted. Exception: if the SafetyBUS p options bbb are not entered, allSafetyBUS p options will automatically be available within a SafetyBUS pproject.

The system is encoded using parameter /B:

pssqld /B /Mfff;sss [;bbb]

/B The service tool only makes available those options enteredunder parameter M.

/Mfff See previous page/Msss See previous page/Mbbb See previous page

Example:In the ST section, the service tool is to be limited to the following functions:“Transfer blocks to the PSS”, “Display PSS configuration”, “Display PSSdirectory”, “Display PSS hardware”, and “Display PSS error stack”. In the FSsection it is to be limited to the following functions: “FS program : Harddisk=> PSS”, “Dynamic program display”, “Display PSS configuration”,“Display PSS directory” and “Display PSS error stack”.

Under MS-DOS:pssqld /B /Mfncdy;fcdwy

Under Windows NT/2000:c:\programs\pilz\pssqld /B /Mfncdy;fcdwy

Once the service tool has been encoded it can only be started using one ofthe above functions, or a selection of them,e.g. pssqld /F c:\pgproj\fstest /D/Mfndy

pssqld /S c:\pgproj\sttest /Mfcw

Application examples

The service tool and the ability to encode it could be used, for example, whenmaking repairs or modifications. The service engineer can be provided with a batch file which calls up theservice tool with predefined parameters. The engineer then just needs to callup this batch file, requiring no knowledge of the system software, service toolor internal file structures. When generating the batch file, please note that thedirectory entered for the service tool (e.g. c:/programs/pssqld), includingprogram names, must be a maximum of 130 characters in length. Thedirectory entered for the project (e.g. c:\projects\pss51) may be a maximumof 117 characters, excluding project names.

INFORMATIONEven under Windows NT, batch files must be generated using a DOS editor.

Example batch files:

1) m174.batc:\pss8\pssqld /f c:\pgproj\man174 /d /crc ea3d /a /mydc
