Dear Kermit,
How did you learn that I sign verifications? Just curious.
Currently my receiver is a Sony ICF-2010 and I
use the Sony AN -1 Active Antenna.
Am pleased to learn that our signal was so good at times. The name of the store on the west side of Mt. Pleasant is "Tuma's Country Store."
Also, we do not have an Isabella Community Savings Bank. It is Isabella Community Credit Union. We do have an Isabella Bank and Trust, however.
All in all a good report and you went to a lot of work to put all that information onto paper.
Our musical programming is via Satellite Music Network from Dallas, Texas.
The Season's Best to you, your family, and others you know.
During this past year, WMMI has received reprots of reception from: George Vanish of Trucksville, Pennsylvania, Dec. 3, 1989; Neil Wolfish of Willowdale, Ontatio (near Toronto) Dec. 3, 1989; Robert Walker, Wixom, Mich., Dec 31, 1989.
Wonder why our signal heads to the east. Probably because of the WCCO signal.
Cheers,
PS: Last week we received a report from Jim Renfrew of Rochester, New York, Dec. 8, 1990. -0-

DEAR KERMIT,
THANKS FOR YOUR RECEPTION REPORT OF WMUS-AM, MUSKEGON, MICHIGAN ON FEBRUARY 5, 1993 FROM 4:00-4:30AM. THE TEST WAS FUN AND I RECEIVED CALLS ON OUR 800 LINE WHEN I REQUESTED RECEPTION REPORTS OVER THE INTROS OF SONGS. WITH THE INTERFERENCE FROM WBAL I'M NOT SURPRISED YOU COULDN'T HEAR ANY VOICE, BUT I'M GLAD THE CID'S CAME THROUGH. I PUT THEM BETWEEN EVERY SONG JUST TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE AND THEY WERE THE ONLY THING INTELLIGIBLE TO ABOUT HALF OF THE RECEPTION REPORTS I'VE RECEIVED SO FAR. I RECEIVED A TAPE FROM OKLAHOMA OF THE TEST AND IT WAS WEIRD TO HEAR HASH UNDER KAAY, BUT THE CID'S WERE RIGHT THERE, JUST AS YOUR DESCRIBED.
I USED TO DX A LOT WHEN I WAS A KID BUT NEVER HEARD OF THE NATIONAL RADIO CLUB UNTIL WAYNE FROM COLORADO SENT US A
LETTER REQUESTING THE TEST. I SHOULD BECOME A MEMBER. I'VE GOT A LOT OF BACKYARD(20,000 SQUARE FEET)TO STRING SOME LONGWIRES.
I PUT THE HALF HOUR SHOW TOGETHER BEFORE THE BROADCAST IN OUR 8 TRACK STUDIO, AS I HAD TO BE ON THE AIR ON OUR FM AT THE TIME(OUR AM IS JUST SIMULCAST DURING THE NORMAL DAYTIME HOURS OF OPERATION). WE SHOULD GIVE THANKS TO ANOTHER ENGINEER FRIEND OF MINE WHO CONSULTS WITH ME. I COULDN'T GET WMUS-AM TO COME UP TO FULL POWER ON THE REMOTE CONTROL, SO HE GRACIOUSLY GOT OUT OF BED AND WENT TO OUR TOWER SITE AND REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER ON OUR CONTINENTAL TRANSMITTER, OR THERE WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN A TEST!
SPEAKING OF EQUIPMENT AND POWER, WE USE A CONTINENTAL 1KW TRANSMITTER, COMPUTER CONTROLLED BECAUSE WE HAVE LOW POWER PRE -SUNRISE AND POST -SUNSET AUTHORITY AND IT HANDLES ALL OF THAT SO THE PERSON ON THE AIR DOESN'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT. OUR AM TOWER IS AT OUR OLD BROADCAST FACILITY IN NORTH MUSKEGON, MI. IT'S IN THE MIDDLE OF A SWAMP WITH GOOD RADIALS IN THE GROUND, SO IT GETS OUT GREAT. IT'S STRONGER IN GRAND RAPIDS, MI. THAN SOME OF THEIR AM'S!! OUR AUDIO PROCESSING IS(IF YOU CAN BELIEVE IT)ARE THREE URIE LA -4'S, EACH MODIFIED FOR LOW, MIDDLE AND TOP END EQUALIZATION, THEN COMBINED INTO THE MICROWAVE. I KNOW THE URIE'S ARE OLD, BUT WE PUT THEM BACK IN SERVICE. WE TRIED OPTIMOD-AM, INOVONICS MAP II AND CRL, BUT COULDN'T GET THE DENSE SOUND WE WANTED, SO THE URIE'S WENT BACK IN. IT IS MY BELIEF THAT DENSE, TIGHT AUDIO WILL CUT THROUGH ALL THE CLUTTER.
BEST REGARDS,

Dear Kermit
I'm replying to your reception report of d --und WIAN Ishpeming, MI on February 7th. It appears
that you received us. The tapes were run by automation. We operate unattended overnight and you have times listed when they were scheduled. Two other reports were sent listing reception at 0122.,
I know DX'g is getting difficult because many stations which
operated al -reduced power (250 watts) at night use full
power. Also many stations are not shutting down at night.
WDMJ and WIAN duplicate programming throughout most days.
The only exception is for local special programs such as high schools sports when programming is separated. WDMJ is
5 kilowatts day and 1 kw directional night. WIAN, with new
call letters in 1993, is 1 kw fulltime. Because the
Marquette area has relatively poor ground and therefore radio conductivity the two stations are needed to cover the
communities of Marquette, Ishpeming and Neguanee, Upper
Michigan. The WIAN call is for "Ishpeming And Negaunee."
Please find enclosed a "Radio Dial Card" which has been brought up to date by me. WDMJ when owned by another
company gave these to listeners. Goetz Broadcasting which owned WJPD AM -FM purchased WDMJ. We then changed the WDMJ-
AM call to WIAN and combined programming of the two AM's.
WJPD(FM) is programmed separately with country music.
WJPD (FM) is 100KW on 92.3 Mhz. I'd be interested in
reception reports on the FM.
Thanks for the nice letter. I think I've been near your
town. One of my good friend works at Villanova. We took a
trip to your gambling mecca in NJ. Didn't gamble just spend
money on a nice meal and walked the boardwalk. I have a
son and daughter who have settled in Pittsburg, west of you.
The son works for USAir and the daughter found a job there

RE: Signal Report
Dear Mr. Geary,
Yes, you did hear WCCW-AM (1310Khz) in Traverse City Michigan as stated in your letter.
WCCW runs 5000 watts to a 290 foot bottom fed ND tower. The Transmitter is a Harris Solid State SX-5. It is AM stereo and uses a Harris AMS-Gl stereo exciter/generator.
WKJF is our sister station in Cadilac about 50 miles south of Traverse City. WKJF, WTCM and WCCW are owned by Midwestern Broadcasting Co.
I have a National NC -183D, Hammarlund HQ-100AC and a Collins 51J2 that I use for DXing the BC band. It is fun when I
have the time. I am also a ham (k8xx) and operate 1.8 Mhz often. It is my favorite band. 1660 Khz from your area comes in very well in Traverse City nearly all night.
WCCW is also on FM at 107.5 MHZ and runs 50,000 watts.
We do not have QSL cards for the radio station, but I hope this confirmation is OK.
Thanks for the great report and tape.
Sincerely,

Kermit Geary, RFD #2, RE: VERIFICATION OF Walnutport, Pennsylvania. RECEPTION. Dear Mr. Geary;
It was with a great deal of pleasure that we read your report of reception of WTAC - NBC in Flint.
Your report is correct. This is your verification. It is our regret that we do not have Verification Cards - as such. In view of the fact that reception reports are so seldom received, we feel qualified to refrain from having such cards printed.
We were quite surprised to learn that our signal had gone as far east. You know, that our signal is directional north- ward constantly. Comes sunset, we drop our output down to 500 -watts from 1,000 -watts.
According to your report, which we find correct, you heard WTAC on 600 kilocycles during the morning hours of November 8, 1950. The listening period was from 2:153 until 2:43. During that duration (as during most of the time that night) we were broadcasting election returns from the Flint City Hall. Leon McNew was at the 'ity Hall. Larry DeBeau and Bob r'lynn were at the studio giving other returns. It might interest you to know that WTAC was the only station giving election results directly from the City Hall. There are four AM stations and one FM station in Flint.
Should you again hear WTAC, please let us know.
Your return postage is being returned. We do not bother with such matters.
Sincerely, FOR Tel: CHIEF ENGI E'R:

Dear Sir,

1986
I am pleased to inform you of my reception of Radio Station WFEN on the morning of Friday, February 7, 1986. Your broadcast on a frequency of 1160 kiloHertz was found reaching into Eastern Pennsylvania at 1:04 A.M., Eastern Standard Time, and I continued to hear your program of news, weather and popular recorded music until 2:10 A.M., E.S.T.
WFEN's signal on 1160 kiloHertz peaked at an excellent level, raing a report of 20 db over S-9 as indicated on the signal -strength meter. With that amount of signal input, your fine transmission dominated the frequency so as to afford clear, intelligible reception of the programming. There were occasional periods, however, when fading occurred and your signal dropped below the interference level, permitting station WJJD, Chicago, Ill., to dominate for short intervals. Your carrier was clean-cut and fully modulated. The tonal quality was excellent. There was no atmospheric static. As the result of these favorable conditions, much of the program conducted by announcer Randy Hollis was heard with good readability at this distance from Fenton of 450 air miles. It was a pleasnre to hear your new station for the first time, and you are to be congratulated on the power and efficiency of your transmitting equipment that is able to provide this coverage.
I heard WFEN on my Hammarlund HQ -180 communications receiver, using 18 tubes. The antenna is a Model SM -2 Space Magnet, a rotatable 12 -inch ferrite rod with 2 stages of preamplification. Ground connect- ion is made to a well 175 ft. deep. I am situated in the eastern part of the State of Pennsylvania, 60 miles north of the city of Philadel- phia near Allentown, Pa., and 21 miles west of the New Jersey state line.
I would be happy to receive your reply, kindly confirming my reception of WFEN on 1160 kiloHertz as reported above. Your verification of the fact that I was tuned to your broadcast of Friday, February 7th, will be greatly appreciated. Return postage is enclosed for your reply. As proof of my reception, I give the following description of some of the program items which I heard:

Dear Kermit: Many thanks, fellow, for your swell report on our DX program, also the box top. Glad to hear that you enjoyed the program as we sure had a swell time putting it on. Please accept this letter as verification of your report.
Enclosed is some propaganda including a picture of our transmitter building. Since this pix was taken we have built a studio wing on one side of the building and it was there that the program originated. Our regular studios are in town- five miles away. The picture on the "Minter Snorts" page of the AAA booklet was taken down on the side of the transmitter hill. In the back- ground you can just barely male out "beautiful Grand Traverse Bay". Sorry we are fresh out of pictures of our studios, Don Mullen and Mortimer. Don wanted to substitute pictures of Tyrone Power for himself but we nipped that idea in the bud.
Me use Collins equipment throughout and. our 300 F transmitter is in our opinion the best you can buy. "Pe also are quite proud of our half wave radiator which gives us good coverage 90 miles and more from our plant, which isnrt bad for any 250 matter.
When you come up here for your vacation this summer stop in and say hello.
Best wishes,

Dear Kermit,
It is a pleasure to be able to confirm your reception of WNLF on
October 25, 1986 from 6:46 to 7:00 pm EDT at your location. Your des-
cription of our programming during that time agreed with our log.
WNLF used to be WGWY and prior to that was WCER which came on the
air in August of 1956. We have only recently changed our call letters
and have used the christian format since 1980.
We have a rather small staff for a 5,000 watt station but are day-
time only and directional to the Northeast toward the Lansing market.
Our transmitter is made by RCA and our signal area ranges from Jackson
to Flint to Mount Pleasant to Grand Rapids and back toward Charlotte again.
This places about 600,000 people in our potential audience.
We haven't had a chance to print up new bumper stickers or other
promotional material since the call letters have been changed, however,
I do have a "Stick -Up" I will send as well as a copy of our listening
area. I hope you will enjoy these as much as I have enjoyed your letter.
Thanain,
David W. Huva - Ch Oper - WNLF

First of all, please excuse this type of a letter. It's not as
personal as I'd like it to be, but time forbids answering each report
personally.
We would like to thank you for your reception report. A check of

This is to verify your reception of our station. We have checked with our log and find it checks with your reception report. We appreciate the interest you have shown in broadcasting and our
attempt at greater public service,
You might be interested to know that we have received three reports from New Zealand, These reports were made in every case with excep- tionally long antennae ranging from 1000 down to 600 feet in length.
It seems that is a common practice in that part of the world.
We are using a Gates model 250; transmitter and a quarter -wave
Marconi antenna with coLLazial feeder:, Our actual service area, which I believe to be above average: for a station of our power, on our frequency is in the neighborhood of 70 to 80 miles in all directions*
On our engineering staff we have three hams, WO QDW, WO TQC, and
WO PFBC; None of ue are on the air as yet but all have plans to start pounding the brass soon.
Due to lack of time and change in staff we have neglected to answer your report., but hope you will bear with us.,. I am sure that you can understand the amount of work that goes into putting a station on the airy

I am sorry you were unable to locate our signal in the 'mud". I have had several reports from various sections on the test, mostly from the eastern area.
It would appear from your report that you did hear our ea2lier test transmission for frequency measurement purposes. The time and tone format agrees with the broadcast format, and it would be rather unlikely that another co -channel station would be using this particular tone sequence. The frequency testar ansmission ran from a little before 12:30A to a little after 12:L5A, and was broadcast first with 500W, and then at 250W, for the last 5 minutes.
Our night man has just comp in, and asked if you were listening to his show, "Pat's Record Room." (This show goes off at 12M)

Dear I"Ir. Geary:
Thank you for your letter of September 28th reporting reception in Walnut Port of our equipment test of that date. The log you list agrees entirely with ours, and there's no doubt but that you were tuned to our 500 Watt Daytime station. Yours was the only reception report on that day from the Eastern part of the country. We did hear from Norman Maguire who operates ham station W5NXF in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He checked our signal at R-2, S -s. Your report of R-5, S-9 is the clearest we have been heard at that distance.
Thanks again for your letter, and best wishes.

Dear Mr. Geary:
219 SOUTH WASHINGTON STREET
23 September 1947
I wish to express my appreciation for the reception report on the test program from our station the morning of September 11th. Your list of the program material heard during this test corresponds exactly with our station log.
The test period was conducted for the purpose of adjusting our new General Radio modulation monitor. We have been on the air since April 17th. this year but due to the material shortages have been operating withour a modulation monitor up until this time. We had special authorization from the Federal Communiüations Commission to use a three inch oscilloscope in lieu of the approved type monitor. The trans- mitting equipment iä all Raytheon with carrier power of 1000 watts. The antenna is a 215 foot verticle, guyed tower.
We have no scheduled test periods so I can't advise you when you might be able to hear us again, but as our back ordered equipment continues to come in we will be on the air testing it when we put it in operation. Thanks again for the fine report and lots of luck in your future DXBing activities.

Thank you for your reception report of the 8th. You did indeed
receive our signal the early morning of Dec. 7. I conducted that
frequency check, as I do at the same time the first Saturday of each
month, so it isn't necessary to check our logs to verify your report.
We generally get several reports each mon* after = frequency check,
most of them from the East. We conduct our frequency check on non -
directional antenna. We also operate non -directional during the day,

This station, until last spring, when it was sold, had the call
