BACKGROUND

The Great Aloha Run, which began in 1985, is an annual community event held on Presidents' Day to raise money for local charities. Over the past 25 years Great Aloha Run has raised over $8 million and in 2009 alone gave away over $370,000 to Hawaii based charities. Carole Kai, a local entertainer and TV producer, is the race promoter. The Run has been recognized nationally as one of the top “100 Great Road Races” to participate in by Runners’ World Magazine.

COURSE DESCRIPTION The 8.15 mile, relatively flat course, starts at Aloha Tower in Downtown Honolulu, winds its way along the historic Honolulu Harbor, down Nimitz Highway, Kamehameha Highway and into the Aloha Stadium. The finish line is the back goal line of the north end zone on the stadium floor.

Individual Military Entries – Use the military entry form to participate in the run and line up with the rest of the public on race day. The difference is a discount to members of the Military community and $1 returned to the respective branch of services Morale Welfare and Recreation department. Also, there are awards for the top three military male and female runners ($1000, $500 and $250).

Sounds of Freedom – The Sounds of Freedom division is composed of units running in formation. Active duty service Men and Women from all branches of service participate.
