Public picks winners: Klement & Artist Friends exhibit to debut at BCL

A unique show that has helped Santa Paula maintain its reputation for the arts is opening next week when the 9th Annual Judy Klement & Artist Friends exhibit debuts October 7 at Blanchard Community Library, 119 N. 8th St.

The awards reception for the exhibit where art lovers can meet the artists will be held Saturday, October 12 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Klement said this year’s exhibit - which invites the public to determine the winners - is celebrating the lives of award-winning watercolorist Jeffrey Jones and Elana Spears.

The latter, Klement noted, is “A noted professional in all mediums.... and not only will visitors see a wide range of art but there is also a pastel portrait

of Elana of Jeff and several of Jones’ prize watercolors,” that will be displayed.

The exhibit, one of the most popular in the county, is unique because of the range of artists and works shown from beginning and budding artists alongside prize-winning professionals always willing to work on their artistic skills.

The professional, semi-pro and creative artists in all subjects featured in the exhibit all study with Klement, an acclaimed artist and instructor, through VACE (Ventura Adult Continuing Education).

Klement said, “You can vote for your favorite painting from the beginning of the show up to 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 12 during the free reception open to the public.”

Artist awards, she added, will be announced at noon at the

reception.Klement teaches in all

mediums and subjects from beginners to advanced artists. In addition to the low-cost VACE classes, Klement also accepts private students and conducts workshops in her Santa Paula-based studio.

Although proficient in all mediums, Klement is particularly admired as a portrait artist as well as for her pastel works.

Klement teaches Art through VACE (Ventura Adult Continuing Education) in Ventura on Tuesday

at Silvercrest Residences, 750 S. Petit St., 1 to 4 p.m.; Thursday at Chapel Lane Senior Apartments, 11122 Snapdragon St., from 1 to 4 p.m.; Thursday at 5200 Valentine Road, Ventura Room 201, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Klement will have a Portrait Workshop at her Santa Paula Studio, October 19 & 20.

Blanchard Community Library is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, noon to 8 p.m., Wednesday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The library is closed Friday, Sunday and holidays.
