Alternate Currencies

Alternate Currencies

Working with the euro

Last updated: 05-00 12 of 5

The concept of an alternate currency allows transaction values on selected reports and enquiries to be retranslated to a predefined alternate currency as defined on the customer or supplier account

This dual currency visibility gives users in the European Community a flexible advantage whilst they move through the transition phase to full monetary union

It should be noted that, although the rates between national currencies within the euro zone are fixed, this capability can equally well be used between variable rate currencies – in those cases the current rate is used

Exchange Gains & Losses

Working with the euro

Last updated: 05-00 18 of 5

One of the effects of the introduction of fixed rates between national currencies and the euro is that gains and losses on exchange should be realised in the accounting period prior to the rates being fixed – subject to local rules

Two options are available to cater for this:

the option Realise Exchange Differences posts the realised differences

the Foreign Currency report allows posting of the unrealised gains/losses as a reversing journal

Note: Project DA0331 (Gains & Losses) must be licensed to use this functionality

Base Currency Conversion Control

The conversion of your base currency to a different currency is controlled by a set of pre-configured files held in your system which contain details of the tables and columns to be converted

Only tables contained in the system table ce_curr_tables will be selected for conversion. Each table in ce_curr_tables will only be selected if it is relevant to the type of conversion (i.e. base), and if the table is turned on (defined by a project switch, system key and special function).

The conversion will write the details of the conversion to the audit table ‘ce_curr_audit’ (cecuraud.m) and the System Log
