3. FSS Installation Process

Clicking on the word “Download” as seen in the email mes-sage from FairPoint Security Suite (pictured above) will take you to the website for downloading the software.

You can also go to the website directly at https://www.fairpoint.freedom.net/download/index.html and enter your email address to download the software on your PC or another PC. See picture below.

After the email address has been entered, validation of the email address takes place for entitlement to download FSS. You may see a pop-up window with a warning on the infor-mation bar that a file or pop-up was blocked. See picture on the next page.

1. FairPoint Security Suite Overview

2. How to order FSS

You either order FairPoint Security Suite (FSS) or it may come with your broadband Internet access as a feature.

FairPoint Security Suite is offered free of charge for up to three computers with an order of broadband Internet access of 3 Mbps or greater.

FSS can be ordered by phoning 1.866.984.2001. FSS support is provided for up to three computers and can be purchased separately for any additional computers as needed.

Once your order is entered by the sales representative an email message is sent to your email account letting you know that FSS is available for downloading. See picture at the top of the next column:

Select “Run” to begin the download of the file as shown at the bottom of the left column. A new pop-up will appear as shown below:

When the download completes you will see the install shield pop-up as shown below:

When the install Wizard completes you will see the install shield as shown below:

After clicking “Next” you will be presented with the license agreement. Selecting “I do not accept the terms of the license agreement” will terminate the install. Selecting

“I accept the terms of the license agreement” will continue with the install. See picture on the next page:

You can click on the information bar to bypass this pop-up blocker and select download file. See picture below:

When you select download file, you will see the following pop-up:

Before the program can install, a program called “Conflicting Application Detection & Removal” (CADR) will be launched to check for any software program that may conflict with FSS.

CADR will check for all types of known conflicting applica-tions that may be installed on the computer. Every time the FairPoint Security Suite installer is run, CADR is updated with the latest list of known conflicting applications. CADR is run twice during the installation. The conflicting application warning types are:

Mandatory preinstall – Software removal is required prior to FSS install.

Mandatory pre-activation – Software removal is required prior to FSS activation.

Optional/Recommended – Software removal is not re-quired but strongly recommended.

If a conflict is found, you can click the program name in the list and then click “uninstall.” The removal process is con-trolled by each program’s own setup wizard and not by the FairPoint Security Suite installer. See at the top of the next column:

You would need to remove the conflicting program such as the one shown above before continuing with the install. Once the conflicts are removed, the install will begin as shown in the picture below:

To finish the install the computer will need to be rebooted after the install completes. See picture at the top of the next page:

After rebooting the computer, a short computer scan will complete the installation process. This preliminary scan will scan specific, important areas of your computer (windows folders for example) for viruses and spyware. The prelimi-nary scan will automatically download and install the latest virus/spyware definition files, if any are available. See picture below:

When the preliminary virus and spyware scans are completed a complete summary of what was found is displayed. If viruses or spyware are found, you can remove them all or select specific files to be removed. Files infected by viruses will be cleaned. If viruses or spyware cannot be removed because they are locked/active they will be removed at the next computer restart. See picture at top of next column:

Congratulations, you have completed the install of the FairPoint Security Suite.

A picture of the graphic user interface is shown below. By default, parental controls web pop-up controls and web privacy controls are all set to “off.” The Help menus are built into the application and provide you with information regarding how to configure and enable the features within FSS.
