Opera Oberta (II)

Òpera Oberta is part of the program “Digital Opera – Liceu at the University”, sponsored by the Ministry for Industry, Trade and Tourism and organized by Gran Teatre del Liceu and Telefónica, technologic support from several companies (Irdeto Access, Cavena, Nextream and Anevia) and the collaboration of Research and Education Networks such as the Spanish NREN RedIRIS and the regional RENs CESCA (Catalonia), CESGA (Galicia) and CICA (Andalusia)

Opera Oberta is an university course, which started in 2002 whose aim is to promote opera and its understanding among university students.

Five operas from Liceu are broadcast live. Before the broadcast takes place, a lecturer provides background information (approx 15 minutes) – and additional information can be found at the Internet portal http://www.opera-oberta.org

The operas are shown in conference rooms of participating universities (screen: approx. 3X5 – sound: Dolby Digital Stereo 5.1)

Approx. 50 Universities are currently participating at this project – and a total of approx. 4.000 students will attend the broadcasts.

In 2007/2008 the project started to collaborate with universities and academic networks in other countries (CUDI/Mexico; REUNA/Chile,; RENATER/France; SWITCH/Switzerland; FCCN/Portugal; University of Andorra)
