ABOUT THE RESORTSandy Point has had many upgrades in recent years from room and lift upgrades to external concrete repairs and repainting and, more recently, the gardens and fences at the front of the resort. After the major building repairs and repaint, the resort is certainly looking very smart now. We recently replaced the heat pump for the swimming pool so we will have a nice warm pool all year round. Reception refurbishment is in the planning stages and will be complete this year.As always we continue with our annual maintenance program which we have almost completed for 2013. During this cycle items are replaced such as pillows and soft furnishings, carpets and furniture professionally cleaned and a full spring clean. All of the upgrades and ongoing maintenance works keep us busy and keeps the resort to the standard needed for a great holiday! It’s the little things we offer that make us a preferred holiday destination, like our Magic Garden, located within the grounds providing lots of fruiting plants and plenty of fresh herbs for you to pick and fun things for the kids to discover. We offer free bicycle hire and also have canoes available for use across the road in the Broadwater. Next time you stay with us be sure to attend our Monday night Welcome Party with plenty of helpful information, a free sausage sizzle, licenced bar with well-priced drinks, a free Raffle, giveaways and more. Reception can also assist with discounted theme park tickets and more!

AWARDS AND ACCOLADESThis year Sandy Point received a number of awards including industry “Hospitality” and “Silver Crown” awards. We also received a premier industry Award. Each year we nominate staff for the ATHOC Awards and our trainee, Riley Appleyard, was a finalist in the National AAoA Awards. We have a team of dedicated staff, many long-term, at the resort working hard each week to receive these accolades. We are very proud!

WHAT OUR GUESTS SAY

“I have stayed at Golden Shores and Sandy Point regularly over the past 7 years and absolutely love my holidays! They are close to everything yet quiet and relaxing! I would highly recommend both venues.” – Barbara Lundberg

The locals refer to the Southport/Labrador area as the ‘centre of everything’, within a half hour drive is an international airport, pristine beaches, tranquil Broadwater, the biggest shopping centres on the Gold Cost, the hinterland, the nightlife and the theme parks - not many places can say that.

Labrador itself is a northern suburb which overlooks the Gold Coast Broadwater to the east, with Southport to the south. Labrador offers a wealth of activities from dolphin tours and exploring dive sites to braving

shopping, al fresco restaurants, cafes, clubs, pubs, live entertainment, cinemas and spectacular Broadwater views. Labrador is a perfect holiday destination for all ages.

The cafes and restaurants at The Aqua building continue to be competitive and the

and guests for cheap, convenient and fast café style food.

ABOUT THE RESORTGolden Shores has been well maintained over recent years from major room refurbishments to repainting the external walls. The resort has gone from a 3.5 star to a 4 star resort and we are committed to continuing further improvements. Manager – Morrison Duncan

ABOUT THE RESORTIn true Tiki Village style, the resort survived the Australia Day weather and the effects of ex-Cyclone Oswald, but did come out needing a clean-up, new signs and trees. In July, it will be 30 years since the official opening of Tiki Village International Resort, the first purpose built luxury timeshare resort in Australia. Although over the last 30 years the Gold Coast area has grown enormously, Tiki Village is still a favourite place for holiday makers all year round, we have many familiar faces returning regularly. During the last year, we completed a display unit where the bathroom was completely converted from a spa to a walk in shower. Feedback from owners and guests has been very positive and we are pleased with the result. We intend renovating another unit considering suggested improvements and once we are certain the design is correct and functional, a decision will be made by the Board in regards to the scope and timeframe of the renovation. This year we sadly farewelled the Onsite Manager, Morrison Duncan; Morrison has joined the Resort Operations team at Classic Holidays’ Head Office. We congratulate him on his new role and wish him all the best. With sad news comes joyful news, Assistant Manager, Nikki and husband Tony welcomed their beautiful baby boy, Levi into the world in April. We wish Nikki and Tony all the best and warmest wishes for their new family. In her absence Renee Moes has been appointed the Duty Manager of Tiki and has taken to the role with much enthusiasm.

AWARDS AND ACCOLADESAt the annual Australia Timeshare and Holiday Ownership Council (ATHOC) Awards, Renee Moes was nominated for Resort Performer and our Reception girls were nominated in the Team category for excellent service. Tiki Village also won an industry “Hospitality Award” at the 2012 ATHOC Conference in September. Congratulations all round.

ABOUT THE RESORTBeach House ran at over 99% occupancy over the summer period. Many of these guests saw in the New Year on a beautiful summer’s night at our ‘Aussie Beach Party’. We have recently purchased some new bikes for the resort so on your next holiday be sure to try them out on the magnificent bike paths that run along our coastline - guaranteed spectacular views. Beach House has also welcomed some new staff this year: Brett Shanks (Maintenance Manager) and Sheila Gobie (Executive Housekeeper). They are both committed team members and from the very positive comments we have received from guests during this period their contributions to this resort have seen maintenance & housekeeping standards soar to a new level. We said a fond farewell to Younda Whitaker, who had been with us for over 9 years, and Jennifer Mullins, our Tour Desk Co-ordinator who served an incredible 11 years with us. You will both be missed.

SPECIAL NOTICE The newest addition to Coolangatta will be a 26 story apartment building being constructed on the land adjacent to Beach House on Marine Parade. Construction commenced in March and is scheduled for completion August 2014. Luckily most of the exquisite beachfront views from the balconies of Beach House will continue to be uninterrupted. During the construction period, we regret that we are unable to accommodate guests’ requests for apartment reallocation. Bookings at Beach House are on a first-in, first-served basis and are often booked 12 months in advance.

AWARDS AND ACCOLADESAt the ATHOC national conference in Cairns in September last year Beach House was awarded an industry “Gold Crown” award.Gail O’Neill, Beach House’s Onsite Manager was a finalist in Accommodation Association of Australia 2012 Achievers Awards in the category of ‘Property Manager of the Year (50 rooms or more)’.

ABOUT THE RESORTNestled on nearly 2 hectares of gardens on the shores of the Hastings River, the resort is only a short drive from the heart of Port Macquarie and its magnificent beaches. Another busy year has passed. The old woodchip pathways along the front of the apartments have been paved, which allows better access between apartments. There are only 8 apartments yet to receive new dining tables and chairs. The kid’s wading pool and the spa have both been recoated and look fantastic. New designer floor covering has been laid in the Kids Den and the kids love it!Our occupancy rate continues at a very high 97% with a greater number of owners using the resort than in previous years. Thursday morning pancake breakfast remains one of our most popular resort activities and the Fish & Chip lunch cruise on the Chinese Junk is our most heavily booked guest activity so make sure you join us on your next visit to Vacation Village.

Managers – Susan and Nick Trew

ABOUT THE RESORTThis year has seen the continuation of our refurbishment program with 15 villas having been completed. New bedding, full internal paint, new blinds/drapes, 40” digital TV’s, sofa & chair reupholstering and a new neutral colour scheme has transformed the old into new. Throughout the year our onsite owners meetings have proven very popular with many owners attending the info session, it is the perfect time to meet with the managers and find out first-hand what updates are happening around your resort, it has also allowed for a great question and answer time and to just relax and socialise with the managers. Thank you to all the owners who have attended and for your valuable feedback, we look forward to meeting with you all next time you visit. We sincerely hope you all enjoy coming back to this gorgeous tranquil area each year as much as the management and staff enjoy seeing you.

AWARDS AND ACCOLADESAt the latest ATHOC industry awards night held on the Gold Coast, Nick and Susan were very humbled to once again win Resort Managers of the Year. The gold award for Resort Managers of a property with 50 rooms or less was also one by Nick & Susan at the National AAoA awards. Lastly Pacific Palms Resort also took out industry “Silver” and “Hospitality” Awards at the ATHOC conference held in Cairns last September.

WARM DAYS, GLITZY NIGHTS. PURE PLEASURE IN-BETWEEN In the 1970s, Cancun had only 3 residents. Now thousands come to enjoy its glorious white sandy beaches, enticing climate and warm, crystalline waters that are filled with both natural and man made treasures. Mexico’s premier tourist destination is not just a hit, it rockets right off the charts.

SUN, SEA AND SANDCancun has all the attributes of a genuine tropical paradise. The whisper-soft white-sand beaches. The ultra-clear ocean that shines a pure aquamarine in the sunshine. A temperature that hovers between 26 and 29 degrees, all year round. Parties amongst the palm trees. Wild (and not-so-wild) water sports on and under the water. Sailing past the uber-chic eateries on the Nichupte lagoon. Round it all off with a treatment at one of the luxurious spas, or a simple beach massage. Pure pleasure.

FANTASTIC FOOD AND FUNGourmands will be delighted to know more of Cancun’s restaurants regularly get 5-diamond status than any other Mexican destination. The Club Grill, for example, has won it for 13 years running. At the other end of the scale, but also high in taste, are the Gorditas from a friendly food stall near you. The cantina bars are a handy place to while away time, while the shopaholics among you peruse the handicrafts in Mercado 28, the giant Plaza Las Americas mall and Luxury Avenue’s designer stores. Then there’s the nightlife, boasting some of the best nightclubs in the world. For those who prefer daytime fun, you’ll find championship golf courses, deep-sea fishing, and free open-air art and cultural events in Parque las Patapas in downtown Cancun.

MAYAN HISTORICAL DELIGHTSYou don’t have to leave to discover pre-Hispanic archaeological sites. The antiquities of El Ray are right in the ‘Party Centre’, surrounded by the towering, modern hotels. El Meco is just outside city limits. There are 10 other Mayan sites close by. Remarkable Chichén Itzá, one of the ‘new seven wonders of the world’ is in Yucatán, the state right next door. These intriguing and ancient relics are a must-do, for sure.

NATURAL WONDERSIf glitz and glamour isn’t your thing, don’t discount Cancun. There is an abundance of delights for eco-tourists as well. Start the morning by swimming with a whale shark – an intensely memorable ‘don’t miss’ experience (June – Sept). Zip line through the jungle, upside down if you dare, into the cool waters of a cenote or across the sea’s surface at Garrafon. Prefer to be in it, rather than above it? The Mesoamerican Reef off Cozumel is the second largest coral reef in the world and where you’ll see rare black coral. The underwater museum, Aqua World, has over 400 sculptures to fin through. The turtle sanctuary on the truly beautiful Isla Mujeres releases over 60,000 hatchlings a year, while Isla Holbox is a preserve to thousands of wild dolphins, pelicans, turtles, flamingos and other exotic birds.
