HALLANDALEBEACH - Last monththe CRA Board of Direc-tors moved to have Ex-ecutive DirectorJackson removed with-out cause. This decisionwas based on a requestI made after the Boarddid not take action on arequest to have himremoved in Novemberof 2012 for cause. Thisrequest was based onmultiple breaches incommunication be-tween the BOD andmultiple issues thatarose over the pastmonths on actions thatimpacted the progressof the CRA.

The action to have Mr.Jackson removed in-cluded a recommenda-tion through resolutionto appoint Renee Crich-ton-Miller the City Man-ager as Acting CRAExecutive Director. Dur-ing the meeting CityManager made a pres-entation to suggest ourCRA reverting back tothe original modelwhere the City Manageris appointed as theCRA Executive Director. Our CRA used thismodel for over 16years. The majority ofCRA’s use this modeland many others arelooking to move to it.

Within her presenta-tion she evaluated thebenefits of streamliningthe communication be-tween the City and theCRA. The City Man-ager has direct authority

over the city departmentthat provides servicesto the CRA. The CityManger also has Eco-nomic Development au-thority which is separatefrom the CRA. CRAstatue provides for ad-dressing slums andblight through a CRAplan. The plan is cre-ated through policiesset by the Board of Di-rectors. The BODmoved to appoint ReneCrichton Miller as theExecutive Director.

Part of her first actionwas to request the abil-ity to hire a CRA Direc-tor that would reportdirectly to her. The posi-tion would be sharedbetween the CRA andCity as a Deputy CityManager/CRA Director. This position will workdirectly with the depart-ments providing serv-ices to the CRA andreport back to her. Thiswill streamline commu-nications and provideone point person theExecutive Director/ City

Manger accountable forperformance.

As the City Managercontinues to evaluateour city operations shehas been realigningpersonnel to fit thegoals and vision of theCity Commission. Overthe past years of budgetcutting and attrition, many jobs task havebeen transferred to theremaining staff. In 2007there were 5 manage-ment positions in theCity Manager’s office;City Manager, two As-sistant City Managers,Grants/Legal Coordina-tor and Economic De-velopment Coordinator.Currently there is theCity Manager, DeputyCity Manager and As-sistant City Manager. The new Deputy/CRADirector position willhelp to address thegrowing demands of themany projects and re-development initiativetaking place in our com-munity and allow for theposition to work towardsinsuring the CRA goalsand projects are met.

On Tuesday the CRABoard of Directors willbe holding a visioningworkshop to review thelong term priorities ofthe CRA. The mainfocus will be on whatprojects are needed tomeet the goals withinour CRA borders. TheCRA has a separatebudget that utilizes TaxIncrement Funding. TheCRA has 14 years leftto meet its objectivesand utilize TIF. It is acritical time in our CRAand there is a mutualsense of urgency to in-vest in and most impor-tantly complete projectsthat will address theconcerns of our com-munity. The BOD willalso be reviewing ourcurrent programs andlooking at others tomeet our goals.

Dental Implants aredone for a variety of

reasons. According tothe American Associa-tion of Oral and Max-illofacial Surgeons, statistics show thatnearly 70% of adultsaged 35 to 44 years inthe United States haveat least one missingtooth due to an acci-dent, tooth decay, gumdisease, or dentalfractures. But there’sno need to go throughlife with missing teeth. There are many goodalternatives available.Dental Implants andDentures are the mostcommon options andcan work in conjunc-tion with each other.

After a while thetooth your partial den-ture is hooked to maydecay. If you are miss-ing teeth and yourgums and jaw arehealthy, you may ben-efit from dental im-plants, which arereplacement teeth thatare implanted surgi-cally into the jawbone. Two or more implantsmay serve as a baseof support for severalreplacement teeth. Im-plants are tiny titaniumposts that are placedinto the jawbonewhere teeth are miss-ing. The bone bondswith the titanium, cre-ating a strong founda-tion for artificial teeth. In addition, implantscan help preserve fa-cial structure, prevent-ing the bonedeterioration that oc-curs when teeth aremissing. Aesthetics isone of the biggest rea-sons for opting fordental implants be-cause they look andfeel as natural as realteeth and help to cre-ate a beautiful smile.Normal chewing andbite can also be re-es-

tablished which keepssurrounding teeth, gums and jaws work-ing properly. With ad-vancement in thetechnology, dental im-plants are actuallymore tooth-savingthan traditional bridge-work, since implantsdo not rely on neigh-boring teeth for sup-port.

Most people worryabout the amount oftime it takes for oftencomplicated dental im-plantations as well asthe required period ofrecovery. Conventionalimplant proceduresoften require severalappointments and longhours of surgical pro-cedures, not to men-tion the recovery time. However, technologi-cal advancements sig-nificantly reduce theamount of time for animplant to be placedas well as for recovery.Today, implantationonly takes a day andvirtually no recoverytime is needed as pa-tients can eat almostanything they want im-mediately after. Dentalimplants are changingthe way people live! With dental implants, people are rediscover-ing the comfort andconfidence to eat, speak, laugh, andenjoy life.

If, you feel implantdentistry is the choicefor you, they ask youto undergo a dental/ra-diographic examina-tion and health history.Your questions andconcerns are impor-tant and their teamworks very closely tohelp make your proce-dure a success. Manyoptions can be consid-ered if you decide tohave implants. Youcan decide which typeof restoration is at-tached to the implants.Dental Crowns (singleteeth) are the mostcommon restorationattached to dental im-plants but other op-

tions are bridges anddentures. If you arewondering what wouldbe best and healthiestfor you, come in for aFREE CONSULTA-TION!

Botox and Juvédermand Dysport are alsooffered and for a lim-ited time you canenjoy a FREE CON-SULTATION to evalu-ate, how and which, procedure would workbest for you.

Dr. Silver’s successis built from years ofexperience in familydentistry. His long-timepatients have goodthings to say about Dr.Silver and his staff;praising the care and

compassion, ease ofgetting an appoint-ment, emergency careresponse, and the wayhe describes the treat-ment to put you atease.

omy since we hit thatserious downward slideyears ago. To recover, the process has to startfrom within - city by city, region by region andthen throughout thestate. You have to betired of listening to allthe politicians with theirgrand schemes of eco-nomic recovery - whenyou really have the an-swer in your own back-yard.

Events such asCanada Fest are de-signed to bring trafficinto the region. From thebooths that lined theoceanfront that played ahuge part in the successof the event - to thoserestaurants and shopsthat sit there during thelong summers, waitingfor festivals like this -along with others thatthe City of Hollywoodgets behind.

There is no more glo-rious feeling than havingto park nearly two milesaway from the epicenterof any local festival orfair. What that signals isa plenty of people willwalk by dozens of busi-nesses that really needthe infusion and therecognition. For thosewho say that events andstreet festivals takeaway from the localbusinesses, you franklyhave not experiencedsomething where somany people convergein one area.

The backbone - lifelineof any community - ishow many people youcan drive into your city.In Hallandale Beach, there is Mardi Gras andGulfstream, but thesmaller businesses getlimited spillover. That'swhy I have gone onrants about how the Cityof Hallandale Beach hasto provide more eventsand generate enoughthings for the entirecommunity to benefit. But that is indeed an-other time and anotherongoing subject.

CANADA FEST IS A HIT

No matter where youwalk - along thiscrowded and well at-tended event - there is aculture. One that ourneighbors to the northhave grown up with.Foods, music, gamesand general informationthat only they would un-derstand. But while hav-ing one of the largestgatherings of Frenchspeaking Canadiansoutside of Montreal, thisevent is a lesson to all ofus about how much thesame we all are.

For the past 35 years, this culture, much likeCuba has done for thepast seven decades, isto give South Floridiansa taste, if you will, of aculture that loves toparty and take advan-tage of great weather.

This Canada Fest isthe brainchild of LouisSt. Laurent II (Presi-

dent), Jean-ClaudeDansereau (Director)and Yves Beauchamp, who serves as the VicePresident, but has beenone of the more visiblefaces in this region for along time. A very hardworker who bought timeon radio, put togethershows and enoughevents to make the esti-mated 200,000 "French"Canadians living herethroughout the winterand spring feel likebeing back home,Beauchamp has re-mained a key figure inthis event.

Beauchamp is also alocal real estate brokerwho has been responsi-ble for helping Canadi-ans find that winterretreat.

With loyal sponsorsthat include local news-paper - Le Soleil de laFloride - which providesmuch of what our visi-tors need to know,Canada Fest has trulygotten larger and betterevery year. This year ap-peared that there wasmore of a spotlight onthe local beachsidebusinesses. That wassomething that many lo-cals noticed right off thebat.

"The past few years, there were so manyvendors that it kind ofhid the businesses thatneeded the exposure,"said Randy Miller of Hol-lywood. "This year, theevent is broke up andthe music at both ends. That is not only greatplanning, but I am suresomething the year-round businesses reallybenefitted from."

At an event that hadeverything from traveland apartment rentals tomedical, music, food,

jewelry and so manyother helpful services, the spotlight was onmany of the local busi-nesses. Places alongthe Broadwalk thatnever receive the atten-tion. Businesses that somuch needed that infu-sion, and after two daysof partying and eatingand listening to music, everything fell intoplace.

"I come up here everyyear for this," said MarlaMarks of North Miami. "Ithink it's neat to listen tothe music and watch anentirely different culturethan what we are usedto."

LOCAL BUSINESSESSHOW TOO

Places such as theWater Taxi, andFrenchie's Bar and Grillin Hallandale Beach,Gino's Italian Meat Mar-ket, Club Tropical andthe Yellow Green Farm-ers Market also had the

chance to have the at-tention as well.

For local businessessuch as DesjardinsBank along with Memo-rial Hospital, the oppor-tunity to reach several

different people makesCanada Fest a must.

By Sylvia Glazer, Public Works DirectorHOLLYWOOD - Did

you know that last yearmore than 41,000 tonsof Hollywood residentialgarbage were disposedof and 8,400 tons ofplastics, bottles andother materials were di-verted for recycling? The diversion of the re-cyclable items from thegarbage cart to the bluerecycling cart createdsavings of almost$605,000 in disposalfees.

The City of Hollywoodis using regulations andordinances, in conjunc-tion with public outreachand education, as toolsto increase recyclingthroughout the City. The Department of Pub-lic Works, in partnershipwith the Green TeamAdvisory Committee, has made revisions tothe existing ordinance. These revisions willmandate that recyclingbe ongoing at all newand existing multi-familydwellings and busi-nesses within the Cityby October 1, 2015.

The ordinance nowrequires that a recyclingprogram, and a sepa-rate recycling con-tainer/dumpster, beavailable at every busi-ness and multi-familydwelling no later thanOctober 1, 2015. Gen-eral recycling informa-

tion and program guide-lines will need to be dis-tributed to employees ofbusinesses and to newand existing unit ownersand tenants on an an-nual basis. This meansrecyclable materials willneed to be placed in aseparate container fromthe garbage container.

Recycling preventsthe unnecessary dis-posal of re-usable mate-rials, saves energy, andreduces air and waterpollution. Recycling canalso reduce disposalcosts and save busi-nesses money by di-verting materials fromthe trash dumpster tothe recycling bin. Recy-cling programs are oftenless expensive than dis-posing of this materialas garbage. Savingsare often achieved byreducing the frequencyof collection, and insome cases, the size ofgarbage dumpsters.

Students of Florida'sonly Jewish Women'sTeachers' College, theChaya Aydel Seminary, spent Wednesday, Jan-uary 23, discussing therecent book by Morton LMandel, "It's All AboutWho You Hire, HowThey Lead...". Leadingthe discussion, wasRabbi Raphael Tennen-haus, Dean of the Semi-nary and the BrowardCHAI Center, located inHallandale Beach. Thebook clearly outlines theprinciples, ethics andvalues of the three Man-del brothers, Jack,Joseph, and Mort, three"self made" leaders, who all became billion-aires and world renownphilanthropists.

Rabbi Tennenhaus, who had a unique thirtyyear friendship with theoldest of the three broth-ers, Jack, eulogized thesenior Mandel in theCleveland Jewish Newsthe week he passedaway in July 2011. Itwas Jack who encour-aged Rabbi Tennenhaus

to build "The Campus ofJewish Leadership",which hopefully, will becompleted by August2013.

The discussion withthe Seminary studentsincluded the obvious hu-mility of Mr Mort Man-del, that is evidentthroughout the book. Italso included the fivehiring principles of MrMort Mandel, 1) intellec-

tual firepower, 2) values,3) passion, 4) work ethicand 5) experience. Thestudents wrote notesthroughout the wholediscussion, and appreci-ated Mr Mandels' prefer-ence of hiring "Aplayers". The Seminaryhas already graduatedover 250 Jewish teach-ers, who hold leadershippositions in six conti-nents. The discussion

this past Wednesdayabout Mr Mort Mandel'sbook will surely enhancethe leadership qualitiesof the Florida SeminaryGraduates of 2013.

Mr Jack Mandel, hada winter home in Holly-wood, Florida, and be-came a staunchsupporter of Chabad ofSouth Broward, BrowardCounty's first ChabadCenter, in the early1980's. Chabad ofSouth Broward is hometo Florida's only Teach-ers' College for Women,a Preschool with 100children on the waitinglist, a Hebrew School

with 95 children on thewaiting list, three Mik-vahs for the physicallychallenged, the Friend-ship Circle that uniteslocal volunteerteenagers with childrenwith special needs, theCounty wide non-sectar-ian drug prevention andeducation program Proj-ect PRIDE and someforty agencies. TheBroward CHAI Cen-ter's  current construc-tion and expansion isthanks to the vision the "Mandel philosophy"shared with Rabbi Ten-nenhaus.

Rabbi Tennenhaus re-

marked that the "Mandelphilosophy'', as de-scribed in Chapter 6 ofMort Mandels'  book, "tofind a need and fill it", isidentical to the approachChabad of SouthBroward has had for 33years. "Find a need andfill it", is precisely whatthe late Mr Jack Mandelloved about our work. That is what made himsuch a staunch sup-porter, and why he leftthis world with the de-sire that The Campus ofJewish Leadership becompleted in BrowardCounty.

BEACH - South Floridais in for a rare treat onFebruary 16th andFebruary 18th!PESVEBI, the Geor-gian National Danceand Music Ensemblewill be presenting theirspectacular show, Cau-casian Legend, at theNorth Miami BeachPerforming Arts The-ater (Littman Theater). I’m not talking aboutone of our states,Georgia; I’m talkingabout the Republic ofGeorgia.

The Republic ofGeorgia is known tomany for its rich, fertileland, sunny valleys, majestic forests, andits excellent wine. Notsurprising then, this po-etic land is expressedin many ballads, poems, songs anddances. The beautyand originality of theGeorgian folk dancesis perhaps due to theirability to reflect somany different aspectsof Georgian life. Thedances are divided ac-cording to their originand content into ritualand ceremonial, work, game and comicdances.

In form, Georgiandances are divided intosolo, pair and group. Each dancer has to ad-here to the require-ments of a commonplan and its expressionin the dance. At thesame time the perform-ers do not lose their in-dividuality, sinceseveral dances de-mand competition be-tween partners instrength, agility, eleva-tion and bold move-

ments. The dances areinfluenced by the ad-vent of Christianity inGeorgia during the firsthalf of the 4th century, and at the same time, the survival of pagan-ism in certain remotemountain districts.

The Georgians, fromancient times, createdsong and dance to pre-serve their culture andperformed it throughthe centuries completewith each folk dancetelling a story that re-flects the country’slong and enduring his-tory. It’s a 2 ½ hourshow of the most in-credible folk music andfolk dance. Thedancers perform amaz-ing steps with vigorand vitality. ThePESVEBI ensembleconsists of around 40to 45 dancers and mu-sicians. Each dancer’scostume is exquisitelyhandcrafted. The per-formers whirl and leapin mass and solo to thewonderful music tellinga story with eachmove.

The male dancerscan boast a highly orig-inal technique. Unlikeany other dancers in

the world, some movesrequire them to danceon their toes and with-out the aid of “block”shoes. In the women’sdances, in contrast toclassical ballet, danc-ing on pointes is un-known.

To get a sneak pre-view of what is in storefor you I suggest youlook on YouTube forGeorgian Dances. While browsingthrough several videos, most were of the en-semble in New Yorkwhere they weregreeted with outstand-ing reviews, I foundmyself amazed at thebeauty and athleticismof the dancers. Thepageantry and preci-sion of the perform-ances put me in mindof the Celtic group,River Dance only witha wild, heart – throb-bing, sense of paganbeauty.

The music is per-formed with wild aban-don according to theindividual dance.Singer Dato Kenchi-ashvili imparts a lyricalbeauty to the perform-ance.

Artistic Director,

Vano Goderdzishviliand Choreographers,Shorena Barbaqadzeand Jurkha Lomtadzeare to be congratulatedfor their adherence tothe historical signifi-cance of each dance.

Georgian dance isthe best representativeof the Georgian spirit.

Each dance has aname, for instance,Parikaoba (warriordance) where thedancers engage in anenergetic battle withsword and shield im-personating battle withan enemy. The dancerscompete with eachother in the Georgianspirit of competive-ness. The Acharuli is abeautiful flirtatious andlight hearted dance, and the Kartuli is themost difficult but ro-mantic dance. Thoseare just 3 of the 20dances performed.

The beautiful cos-tumes blend history

and art in harmony. This coupled with attimes seemingly roughand technical move-ments leaves the audi-ence in awe. GeorgianFolk dances gives im-mense pleasure to notonly the audience, butalso to the dancers.Every dance is uniqueand represents actionssuch as a wedding, war, competition, cele-bration, mountain andcity life.

The Georgian Na-tional Dance and MusicEnsemble have per-formed in WashingtonDC, Chicago, New

York, Atlantic City, Dol-lywood in PigeonForge,Tennessee andPennsylvania.

Future performancesare planned in Denver,Los Angeles, and LasVegas

PESVEBI, the Geor-gian National Danceand Music Ensembleare here for such a lim-ited time it would be ashame to miss it. TheNorth Miami Perform-ing Arts Theater hoststhe performances onlytwo nights...February16 and February 18starting at 8:00 P.M.

(BPT) - Winter canstretch for a very longtime in many areas ofthe country, and with theextensive cold oftencomes the temptation tolet weight loss goals fallby the wayside. If you've set out to loseweight and get healthyin 2013, but are not surehow to keep going an-other month, much lessthe rest of the year, takeadvice from RegisteredDietitian Anika De-Coster, program man-ager of the 90-DayChallenge for Life TimeFitness, The HealthyWay of Life Company. Inits third year the nationalweight loss contest hashelped a total of 58,000people lose a cumula-tive 145,000 pounds.

"A great weight lossprogram provides acombination of the rightexercise, nutrition andlifestyle factors, includ-ing stress managementand good sleep," De-Coster says. "In addi-tion, I've noticed thatthose who succeed inlosing the most weighttake their efforts furtherin order to win the com-petition."She says adopting thesefive strategies can im-prove your chances ofwinning at weight loss.1. Find your motiva-tion.

You can't lose weightbecause your doctorsaid to, or your spousehinted you should, or aclose friend passive-ag-gressively suggested it."Real winners spendtime thinking about andidentifying their own mo-

tive for losing weight,"DeCoster says. "Themore emotion you putinto something, themore likely you'll commitfor the long term.-Spendtime reflecting and un-derstanding why you'llstop at nothing toachieve your overallgoal." This doesn't meanyou have to face yourweight loss challengealone, DeCoster adds."But acknowledge thatyou are the only one toactively change your be-havior."2. Learn how andmake it a habit.

"As the saying goes,'motivation is what getsyou started, but habitsare what keep you

going,'" DeCoster says.Forming healthy lifestylehabits will lead to long-term weight loss suc-cess. But makingchanges takes work andtime.-"Most people knowwhat they need to do butoften prevent their ownsuccess because theynever take the time tolearn how," DeCostersays. "For example, youmight want to eat health-ier and know that youshould eat more vegeta-bles, but if you don'tknow strategies to addmore vegetables to yourdiet, your success willbe limited."-Do your re-search or hire a coachto help you learn aboutsound nutrition and ex-

ercise.3. Write your goaldown, and publicizeit.

A 2007 study fromDominican University inCalifornia reported thatpeople who put theirgoals in writing are moresuccessful than thosewho think about them.Success rate increasesfurther by making thosegoals public. Partici-pants in the study whomerely considered theirgoals succeeded 43 per-cent of the time, whereas those whowrote goals down in-creased their successrate to 64 percent. Those who wrote downtheir goals and reportedtheir progress weekly toa friend succeeded anaverage of 76 percent. Thanks to the Internet, you can share yourprogress via socialmedia. In fact, a studypublished this month inTranslational BehavioralMedicine revealed thatparticipants in a weightloss program who alsoused Twitter as a sup-port tool lost moreweight.4. Take a "beforephoto."

You might want to skipthis step, but don't; realwinners take beforephotos seriously.-A be-fore photo is the startingline, the benchmark tostay motivated and bereminded of how faryou've come. DeCoster

says photos shouldshow as much skin asyou would in a swimsuitand should capturefront, back and sideviews.-"When you arethe one losing weight, itcan be hard to see thedaily metabolic changethat is going inside ofyour body," DeCostersays, adding that alongwith the photo makesure you jot down start-ing weight and measure-ments.5. Focus on good be-haviors to master, not bad behaviors tostop.

Make your weight lossjourney a positive one.

"Instead of telling your-self you really need tostop eating fast food forlunch, focus more onplanning and packinglunches instead. Insteadof telling yourself youcan't have any sweets, remind yourself you'rechoosing healthier re-wards," DeCoster ex-plains. The shift mayseem subtle, but thepayoff to the approachresults in long-termlifestyle changes.

If these tips from com-petitive weight loss win-ners aren't enough, entering a weight losscompetition yourselfcould fortify your re-solve. A 2009 study pub-lished in the journalObesity concluded thatteam-based competi-tions can successfullyreduce BMI and obesityrates within participatinggroups.

"Group dynamics canboost weight loss suc-cess," says DeCoster, whose 90 Day Chal-lenge kicks off Feb. 9(www.lifetime-weight-loss.com/90day). "Shar-ing your expectationswith teammates andhaving a team hold youaccountable, while sup-porting you at the sametime fosters a no-fail at-mosphere and inspiresyou to achieve a healthyway of life."

WINNING WEIGHT LOSS TIPSTaking advice from a registered dietitian

is a great way to keep the weight off!

What to Do When You'reSick, But Not Sick Enough(NewsUSA) - Doctors agree that cold and flu symptoms are nothing to

sneeze at and that the sooner they're treated, the better chance there is fora quick recovery and minimum disruption of lifestyle. Yet, people hesitate totake medication at the crucial early stage for lots of reasons.

First, it can be difficult to tell where early symptoms will lead. Some peo-ple try orange juice or a nap, adding different treatments, step by step, astime passes, if symptoms grow worse.

"I see it all the time," says Chris Gilbert, M.D., author of "Dr. Chris's A, B,C's of Health." "Patients take great proactive steps like washing their handsfrequently and taking a multivitamin. They don't know what to do, though, when they start to get sick. They wait until their condition gets so bad thatthey can't sleep at night or function during the day, so they have nothing tolose by taking something that will put them in a fog."

Drivers, equipment operators, pilots and night workers can't take antihista-mines or decongestants that can cause drowsiness.Others just don't like to take medication or don't like to admit they're vulner-able.

The problem is that when cold and flu sufferers get to the point of taking amedication that will suppress symptoms until the body heals on its own, theaction of suppressing symptoms is counterproductive to what the body isdoing to help itself.

However, there are over-the-counter medicines that help nip symptoms inthe bud. Homeopathic medicines work with the body to help it rebalanceand heal itself instead of simply masking symptoms. Clinical studies showthat top seller Oscillococcinum helps reduce both the severity and durationof flu-like symptoms. In fact, when patients took it within 24 hours of theonset of symptoms, nearly 63 percent showed "clear improvement" or "com-plete resolution" within 48 hours, according to a study published in a Britishscientific journal. These results confirm results from previous studies.

"Patients have told me that they feel much better the next morning, evenwhen they thought they would be bedridden the evening before. It's the stepto take after proactively trying to prevent illness with vitamins but before itgets to the point where you think you need to mask symptoms with heavy-duty medication," says Dr. Gilbert. "For years I've been telling my patients tokeep Oscillo on hand."

This family treatment for 2- to 102-year-olds has a 65-year safety record,no side effects such as drowsiness, and no interactions with other medica-tions or supplements. When you're feeling run down and have a headache, body aches, chills and fever, you will be glad that these sweet-tasting pelletsdissolve quickly under your tongue without water.

Big Things are Happening at RONI’S BLUE STAR TAVERNA

Page 1D - Twitter@sfsuntimes - January 31, 2013 INSIDE: SUPER BOWL RECIPES

Roni Mualem, the new owner of Blue Star Taverna not only added his name but he’s also created a new menu and a music inspired decor to the popular night spot. It’s an exciting restaurant and night club located at 2221 North Federal Highway (two blocks south of Sheridan Street on the East side of Federal) serving Kosher Rubashkin Mediterranean cuisine made with the freshest, highest quality ingredients.

The large dining room seats 150 guests at tables topped by crisp white cloths. Musical Instruments are framed around the walls, several guitars and stringed instruments from around the world, some drums and tambourines most signed by famous International musicians. The decor reflects Roni’s musical background and collection of musical memorabilia. He is a singer and musician. In fact Roni has worn many hats and still does...he’s the owner, chef, and joins the entertainers on the stage.

His recipes are featured on the menu with several of his signature dishes. Roni’s famous Kabobs are marinated in various fruit juices and grilled on a hardwood charcoal grill. His chicken wings done dry with spices on the grill are mouth-watering. Mediterranean and Middle East dishes along with several Indian dishes will introduce some guests to new tastes, while others will delight in the opportunity to again, eat some of their country’s cuisine. You can pick on a hot or cold appetizer while waiting for your meal. Roni’s Hummus is really tasty. Maybe you would like to try the Baba Ghanoush (eggplant is the main ingredient) or Sambousak (a vegetarian empanada), or the Grilled Sweet Potato. Then for dinner you might like to order an Indian dish of Chicken or Lamb Curry (Mild or Spicy), Chicken Tandoori (Mild or Spicy), or one of Roni’s Signature Kebab dishes prepared on a hardwood charcoal grill and there’s 6 different kinds of rice to give the best flavor to each dish. The Grilled Tilapia Iraqi Style is made with Tomatoes, Onions, and a Special Sauce. Roni’s Famous Salmon in Special Sauce is so exquisite he suggests you call in

advance to order as it takes about an hour to prepare. You will be served fresh, alkaline water with your meal and there’s Baklava or Kunafa for dessert.

Roni is featuring a Grand Opening Dinner for Two consisting of a Mixed Grill Dinner for two, featuring Kebabs, grilled tomatoes and hot peppers on a bed of rice, appetizers and salad and a bottle of wine all for $49.00.

Roni’s Blue Star Taverna is open 6days a week (closed on Fridays) 5:00 PM until when ever the party is over or before 4:00 AM. Tuesday night is Ladies Night with a DJ and free drinks for the ladies from 10:00 PM to Midnight. There’s a lovely curved bar for seating and a raised stage in a corner. Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays there’s live music starting around 9:00 PM, provided by Roni and various International Stars. Roni plays many instruments from Arabic drums and guitars to the Oud which is a beautiful type of stringed instrument with a round shaped body much like a tortoise shell and a curved neck.

As part of the International flavor of Roni’s Blue Star Taverna there’s a Hookah Lounge out back on the patio to be enjoyed.

If you are looking for a new dining and entertainment experience Roni’s Blue Star Taverna is certainly enjoyable. Roni thinks of his patrons as family to be entertained and served his wonderful food. Roni suggests, “Come and taste food you haven’t tasted anywhere else in South Florida!”

Roni also caters these same wonderful meals at your home on hardwood charcoal grills. Ask about his catering services.
