Men’s Prayer Breakfast - Start the new year on Sunday, January 8 with a commitment to be a part of this important ministry of the church. We will share a good breakfast and spend time together before the Lord in prayer. God hears our prayers and our church will be blessed as we are faithful in this service, as we pray for missionaries, missions and the other ministries of our church. When men of the church pray together, we will see the Spirit of God move in mighty ways. Please make reservations by noon on Thursday, January 5, by signing up in Sunday School or by calling the church o!ce at 271-3363.

Senior Adult Lunch - We are moving this monthly meeting to the second Thursday, January 12, due to the busy holiday schedule. Our program will be Tim Wuester, our minister of music leading us in "an old fashioned HYMN SING." So think about your favorite old hymn to suggest to be sung. Please make your reservations by Tuesday, January 10.

Guatemala 2012 - April 21-28, 2012 are the dates for our next mission trip to Guatemala. This will be our fourth trip back to Guatemala where we will go door to door sharing of our faith. This has been a great ministry of our church. We are looking for a team of at least 8 people to go and share the gospel to people who have not heard the good news. Please contact Dean Finch at 271-3363 if you are interested in being a part of this mission work. Please pray about going and aboutgiving that others may go.

The month of January brings a couple of great opportunities to our church. Opportunities for outreach as well as building our homes and families. A recent study shows that only 12% of Christian youth have a regular dialogue with their mothers on matters of faith and that number drops to 5% for fathers. Only 9 out of every 100 Christian youth experience regular Bible reading and devotional time in the home. The home is the birthplace and incubator for the Christian faith. It is the starting point for God’s plan of discipleship. Is it any wonder that our families are under attack? Is it any wonder that so many youth and young adults are falling away from the faith?

God wants the Church to equip fathers and mothers to be the spiritual leaders and nurturers for their families. He wants fathers and mothers to model and teach His Truth. January 15-22 will be a time of evaluation and strengthening of our homes and families to see how we can better serve God as parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren, spiritual leaders, and encouragers in our spheres of in"uence.

On January 15, Taylor Road will have an open showing of “Courageous.” If you saw this movie in the theaters, we don’t have to tell you how powerful it is. Bring your friends and family and enjoy the movie. But don’t just come to watch a movie, come prepared to challenge yourself and others to be the kind of Spiritual leader God has called you to be.

On Friday, January 20, husbands and wives will have a chance to build and strengthen their relationships and e#ectiveness in the Love Worth Fighting For conference being held at Eastmont Baptist Church. As quoted from the event’s website, “There is no better example of the unconditional love God has for us than what we are instructed to have for our spouse and children.” Check out the ad on page 8 of this edition of Archways for more information!

Attempting to stay fresh in my outlook of worship in today’s “what have you done for me lately” culture, I happened upon an interview with Matt Redman. He gives an explanation about his current project, 10,000 Reasons. There was a section of the interview that really struck me. It can help all of us overcome the thoughts and lack of thought that might interfere with a genuine focus upon the Lord in worship. Here’s the part that I transcribed:

You can view this interview at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QZBEbnvoLQ

I don’t think there’s one thread running through the album; I think there’s lots of different themes. But what ties them together is this…from Psalm 103, ‘Bless the Lord, Oh my soul, all my inmost being, praise His holy name’. And it goes through the Psalm giving you reason after reason to worship God. And that’s what we’re living in isn’t it. If you wake up one day, and you can’t think of ways to praise God then there’s something going on in your spiritual outlook. It’s certainly nothing to do with Him…Look upwards to His grace and mercy, look behind you to His faithfulness in your life, look to the sides and what’s in your hands to His provision in your life every single direction you look in, you’re gonna’ find a reason to worship Him.

What is the “cork in the bottle”, the “stop gap”, the inhibition, the roadblock, or the speed bump that gets in the way of our worship? Is it that we’ve rushed past or forgotten all of what the Lord has done for us? There are so many reasons for us to worship the Lord. Not just for what He has done for us personally, but what He has done for humankind. Furthermore, we should be motivated to worship Him for Who He is and for His character that restrains Him from giving us what we really deserve.

10,000 Reasons

If we find ourselves running out of reasons then a quick dive into the Living Word of God can give us ample amount of reason. He is worthy of worship whether we ‘feel’ like it or not. Also, let’s remember that worship is more than attendance – it’s action.

What’s New In The iPod?Ever wondered what was the name of that song playing before service on Sunday Morning? Each month we will share a new album that is in the current rotation of praise and worship music.Recently we added the new album entitled simply Here For You which came out on March 4, 2011...right after one of the most recent Passion conferences. Chris Tomlin, David Crowder Band, Kristian Stan!ll and Charlie Hall all in one compilation of praise and worship music.

TIM TEBOWTHROUGH MY EYES

For the past few weeks it would be tough to not have heard of Tim Tebow. He’s riden a wave of critcism and cheers as the quarterback of the NFL’s Denver Broncos. His play style is often criticized all the way down to tightness of his spiral. On the other hand, his fourth quarter heroics are how legends are made. But even more than his play on the !eld, one subject has been so polarizing to so many - his continual practice of recognizing and openly declaring that Jesus Christ is the top priority of his life.

Other people have declared their love for Jesus on TV, yelled a shout out to the Savior after a touchdown, or even have a tattoo of the cross on their arm...so why is di"erent when Tim Tebow does it? Tim Tebow is very outspoken about his faith, and it is rare to see a "celebrity, or a professional athlete" that will publicly and unashamedly say that "Jesus Christ is the most important person in my life". He doesn’t just play the religious part when everything’s going well...he is CHRIST-centered in every aspect of his life!

If you want to learn more about Tim Tebow, we highly suggest that you obtain a copy of his autobiography "Through My Eyes". The book covers his upbringing, his time at the University of Florida, his mission work, and his being drafted into the NFL. Every chapter, however, revolves around how Christ takes !rst place in his life.

Check out the media library on the !rst #oor of the education building to see if a copy is available to check out. Not only will sports fans !nd his story encouraging, but non-sports fans will also enjoy Tim’s story and have their faith lifted.

I want to encourage and challenge everyone as we begin the New Year to read through their Bible. In the Student Ministry this year we had a New Testament Challenge. I was encouraged that several of our students took the opportunity to read through the whole New Testament this past year. This new year we have begun the Old Testament Challenge. We would love for all of our church family to join us as we try to read through God's word together this year. The youth are keeping a chart of their progress in the Student Center, and I encourage each of you to do the same somewhere that you will be reminded of your progress. Keep the reading of God's word on the forefront of your daily to-do list.

Did you know that you would complete the New Testament by September if you only read one chapter a day? If you read 5 chapters a day of God's word, you could read the entire Bible from cover to cover by July. So many people will miss out on things to be learned this year by not reading His word. Let's not miss out. Let's get into the word. Let's learn together about the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Let's learn what great truths the Bible holds and how to develop our faith and put it into practice. Join us as we grow in our relationship with the Lord.

NEED HELP? A list of scriptures to be read will be posted on Facebook and Twitter daily. If you follow the reading plan that is posted on the following sites you will read the word of God from cover to cover in a period of one year!
