Skema is a global market leader in

the design, engineering, manufacture

and servicing of complete integrat-

ed power distribution systems: local

equipment rooms, modular substa-

tions and powerhouses, medium volt-

age switchgear, intelligent low voltage

switchgear (LV switchgear and Intelli-

gent Motor Control Centers) and inte-

grated protection and control systems.

After more than 40 years in business,

Skema is recognized throughout the

world as being at the forefront of the

industry sectors in which it operates

and has by now built an extensive client

base around the world. Skema’s prod-

ucts and solutions are installed and op-

erate with success in over 50 countries.

Skema’s design, engineering and

man agement operations are located at

the headquarters in Cesano Maderno,

just 20 km north of Milan. This is

the place where project manage-

ment is carried out, where custom

solutions are conceived and where

support functions (administra-

tion, human resources, purchas-

ing and logistics) are implemented.

Just a few kilometers from Cesano

Maderno, in the plant at Bovisio

Masciago, Skema’s products are man-

ufactured, stocked and assembled.

The same location hosts also a dedicat-

ed training facility where technicians

from all over the world undergo spe-

cialist training. In the Yard in Ravenna

(on the Adriatic Sea, south of Venice),

local equipment rooms, modules and

pack aged substation are fabricated.

Skema also has a presence in Atyrau,

Kazakhstan (Skema LLP), Abu Dhabi,

UAE (Skema LLC), and in Maputo, Mo-

zambique (Skema SQ LDA), and has

sales offices in the following coun-

tries: UK, Egypt, Malaysia, Iraq, Ku-

Skema’s Modular Substations can be

used for a wide variety of applications

including MV/LV packaged substa-

tions, local equipment rooms, con-

trol rooms, generator power plant

rooms, personnel refuges and as

general process or utility buildings.

They are fully assembled and rig-

orously tested within Skema’s fa-

cilities before being shipped to site,

by land, sea or air, ready for rap-

id installation and commissioning.

During the project, Skema acts as an

EPC contractor, managing, coordinat-

ing and monitoring every aspect of the

project: detailed design, project man-

agement, scheduling, procurement

and expediting, QA/HSE management,

documentation, fabrication, all multi-

disciplinary installation activities (ar-

chitectural, mechanical, E&I, HVAC,

etc.), and testing and pre-commis-

sioning at Skema’s fabrication yards.

Modular substations fitted with Ske-

ma-brand MV and LV switchgear can

be supplied with the following differ-

ent systems: insulation according to

fire rating; HVAC system; pressuri-

zation system including air filtering

systems, gas, smoke and fire detec-

tion systems; automatic fire-fighting

systems; special painting and coat-

ing systems; security, IT and tel-

ecoms; lighting and small power.

One of the most important and distinc-

tive features of Skema’s Modular Sub-

stations is the opportunity they afford

to create a unique and fully customiz-

able solution, in accordance with each

client’s individual specifications, the

environmental requirements, the envi-

ronmental conditions and the project-

specific transport size limitations.

Skema’s Modular Substations are

space-efficient, highly reliable and

fully integrated, and equipped with

the latest state-of-the-art technol-

ogy for Oil & Gas applications. They

are designed to work safely in harsh,

potentially explosive and chemically

contaminated environments, and are

intended for both onshore and off-

shore Oil & Gas / petrochemical plants.

dium and low voltage switchgear.

Skema’s range of medium volt-

age distr ibution switchgear is

composed of both metal-clad

and meta l -enc losed mode ls .

Skema’s low voltage Power Mo-

tor Control Center is a modular

system with fixed and withdrawa-

ble units for powering, controlling

and protecting low voltage motors

and feeders. It is particularly suit-

able for applications requiring high

performance, safety and a high lev-

el of reliability. The “intelligent” ver-

sion delivers some major benefits:

increased plant reliability and avail-

ability, reduced maintenance costs,

enhanced protection, centralized Inte-

grated Protection and Control System.

Skema’s switchgear can be used

in Oil & Gas fields, oil refiner-

ies, off-shore platforms, power

plants, utility companies, industrial

facilities and marine applications.

The main technical features are: with-

drawable and fixed functional units,

fully insulated and segregated bus-

bar system, internal arc proof, form

4 construction up to Type 7, seismic,

shock and vibration tested to with-

stand extreme operating conditions.

It can as well be supplied with tem-

perature monitoring and arc flash

detection systems. The modular

design allows the simplest and saf-

est cubicle reconfiguration on site.

Skema’s switchgear is fully compli-

ant and has been tested by independ-

ent laboratories in compliance with

IEC 61439-1.

The IPCS is a combination of software

and hardware specially designed to

control and monitor electrical pow-

er generation and distribution plants.

The IPCS monitors and supervises the

status of every incomer and feeder

(for MV and LV switchboards) through

the intelligent IPCD relays. The IPCD

signals are received and managed

by the RTU. The RTU, connected to

the LMS/DMS LAN and/or through

the DCS LAN, exchanges information

with the control room. An operator can

monitor and supervise the system by

connecting via a PC to the RTU or

directly to LMS/DMS ethernet LAN.

The IPCS controls the individual

switchgear equipment, the substa-

tion and the plant; acquires data from

all types of instrumentation using any

of the existing protocols; allows the

immediate transmission of com-

mands from the supervisor; displays

very detailed graphics and features

touch-screen interface; records con-

sumption and analyzes malfunctions;

displays and enables the operator to

change the setting of the protection

relays; manages and controls load

sharing and load shedding; manages

the maintenance of the plant; reports

any failures throughout the plant.
