    GeneralThe International Temperature Scale (ITS 90)designates the standard platinum resistancethermometer as the interpolation instrument up tothe freezing point of silver (1234.93K or 961.78C).Full ITS accuracy requires expensive, fragilePrimary Standard laboratory thermometers to beused as 1st Line standards.Platinum resistance thermometers for routine highaccuracy measurement and calibration, classifiedas Secondary or Reference Standards, accomplishboth accuracy and practical demands of moderatecost and high reliability.

    The Eurotron Working Standard thermometersseries 2180 meet the repeatability and stabilityrequirements of most industrial metrologylaboratories and incorporates features, such as verylow self heating, Inconel or Ker710 sheaths,insensitivity to pressure. and hermetically sealedplatinum sensors.

    The sheath and handle provide for a ruggedinstrument and may be used in all fluid mediacompatible with Inconel or Ker 710.

    These standard thermometers are equipped with 3 or4 leads so that the error due by lead resistance willbe effectively compensated when using a suitablemeasuring device.

    Report of CalibrationThe measurement uncertainties of the data shown inthe Eurotron Calibration Report are:

    0C : 0.10 C100C : 0.15 C

    On request a thermometer can be calibrated andsupplied with a SIT Report of Calibration on fivepoints.The calibration will be made using a comparisonmethod in the appropriate temperature range.A computer compiled resistance temperature tablecan be generated using the constants providedtogether with the Report of Calibration.

    The measurement uncertainties of the data shownon the SIT Report are:

    The platinum resistor is located within the first 30 mm ofthe sheath tip.To minimize conduction errors, the Working Standardshould be immersed into a suitable depth.In general the depth is dependent on the temperatureand the medium being measured.

    A minimum depth of 120 mm is recommended.

    The resistance element is of pure platinum, coiled andmounted in a strain-free construction.The former is of pure alumina material to avoid wirecontamination.

    All joints are welded to minimize resistance changes.The leads are brought to a handle assembly where theyare connected to a low loss 2 meters cable.

    Before final inspection and certification the sensor ispre-aged through temperature cycles to removemechanical stress and therefore to improve long termstability.

    Two models are available using respectively Inconel 600(model 2180) and high purity allumina Ker710 (model2182).The model 2182 uses platinum internal connection wiresinstead of silver alloy that, in combination with the highpurity allumina external protective tube (Ker710), avoidsensor contamination and therefore improve the longterm stability of the sensor.

    Automatic Calibration SystemThe MicroCal T can be used together with a PersonalComputer, a multifunction high precision calibratorMicroCal 200/200+ (see bulletin 08-44), a WorkingStandard Thermocouple and a CalpMan Windowssoftware package to improve a true automatictemperature calibration system.Using the RS232 interfaces of the instruments it ispossible to program through the PC the complete testprocedure for Your thermocouple or resistancethermometer to be certified. The MicroCal 200 is able toread the testing thermoelement with the accuracyrequired and the software elaborate the Report of

    Calibration.
