The Winter Park Garden Club (WPGC) was founded in 1922 to promote gardening and to beautify the City

of Winter Park. The objective of WPGC is to further the education of members and the public in gardening,

horticulture, botany, landscape design, conservation of natural resources, civic beautification, public sanitation

and natural studies. For Winter Park Garden Club info visit

Garden HistoryFlourishing in Winter Park amid homes, businesses

and academic environments is Mead Botanical Garden

(MBG). The original non-profit organization dedicated it

in 1940 to world-renowned horticulturist Theodore L. Mead. MBG is 47 acres of

uplands, wetlands, a flowing creek, a pond, and a remnant

stand of longleaf pine.

In 2003, the Friends of Mead Garden (now Mead Botanical

Garden, Inc.) formed a new partnership with the City of Winter Park to focus on restoring and enhancing

the garden. Building upon the past and responding

to a renewed awareness of environmental issues, the group continues to look at

new possibilities for this Winter Park treasure. With the help and dedication of

many volunteer organizations and individuals, the garden’s

master plan advances.
