Lillian Osborne High School in the 21st Century will be

a vibrant, innovative and active community of learners committed to nurturing personal excellence in every facet of our educational program. The relationships our students, staff and community create as a team will guide us in our journey toward engaged life long learning and active global citizenship. Our students will flourish in an environment that promotes social responsibility and shared guardianship of the planet.

“What I believe sets Lillian Osborne apart is the relationship between teachers and administrators and students; they’re like a second family. The staff truly cares about each individual student.”

- LOHS parent

At just over 1000 students, Lillian Osborne is small enough that staff and students know each other really well but large enough to offer a great deal

of choice. Our students tell us they love that there are no cliques, and they feel privileged to be in a brand new, sunny, high tech building. Lillian Osborne offers

personalized education where students have a say in how their education is delivered. They are smart kids who know that it is cool to be smart. Our students care and they are

making a difference through their leadership and service both locally and globally. It is an honour to be the principal of such a high performing and dynamic school with an extensive range of sports, second languages, clubs, options, and leadership opportunities. Students are supported

academically whether in I.B. or regular courses through opportunities to rewrite assignments, extra help sessions, study halls and peer tutoring. I feel privileged to work alongside the finest team of knowledgeable,

supportive and passionate teachers anywhere.

Right from the start, Lillian Osborne High School set out to be a school that is

unique; a school that puts students first and gives them a voice in their school.

Our students asked for school that blends the best of tradition and experience

with modern, innovative approaches to teaching and learning for the 21st century.

They asked for, and helped select, knowledgeable and caring teachers, and they

told us that they want to be a part of a school that feels like family. Students

want to feel that they can make a difference and feel prepared for life beyond

high school. Ultimately, our students and teachers were given the challenge to

imagine the school of their dreams and we have set on the journey of creating

just that kind of school.

And what an exciting and rewarding journey it has already been!

ExcellenceStudents at Lillian Osborne are thriving in their academics and in an exciting range of options. How do we know? Well, approximately 70% of our grade 10 population is achieving honours according to Rutherford Scholarship criteria, and, just as importantly, many students who have had previous learning challenges are now finding the support and encouragement to experience newfound success.

InnovationWith opening a brand new school, we have been fortunate to be able to hand pick from some of the finest teachers in our district...so we chose the very best of the best! The result is a team of enthusiastic, innovative, and supportive teachers who are passionate about their subject area and go to great lengths to help their students succeed.

AtmosphereIt’s our goal to get to know every student and to support them in reaching their potential, both in learning and in life. And with just over 1000 students, the result is a friendly, smaller high school atmosphere where people feel that they matter and can actually make a difference. It’s hard to describe the feeling in our building, but we’re pretty sure you’ll sense it as soon

as you step through the front doors!

LegacyIn just a few short years, Legends fine arts, athletics, leadership, and clubs have ballooned into tremendous areas of pride, spirit, and even some championships in our first few years! These will continue to be major areas of growth and excitement as even more students get involved, express their creativity, and make a difference in the community in their own way. It’s your chance to be part of history while you are making lasting memories and the absolute most of your high school years!

EnvironmentWe are so fortunate to spend each day in a bright, modern, sparkling clean facility with state of the art technology and innovative spaces, like our grand staircase foyer, our expansive open beam Learning Resource Centre and our multi-purpose linked CTS labs. We are even more proud that our eco-friendly school was built to meet the strict LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) silver standard. We want to ensure that our legacy is in our amazing students rather than in a damaging footprint on the

environment.

International Baccalaureateat LOHS

Are you the type of student who:

· loves to learn and likes to “go deeper” into critical questions, ideas, methods and issues? · is open-minded and willing to try new things? · has a keen interest in a subject and a strong work ethic? · likes to think beyond the textbook or the classroom?

Why Choose IB?You will experience a dynamic classroom environment, alongside like-minded scholars, and your teacher will be passionate about his or her subject area and share your love of learning. You will experience each subject in greater depth than the regular curriculum, and you will develop the critical thinking and time management skills that will prepare you for university and beyond. If you choose to pursue a full IB diploma (and you do have a choice!), you will experience a balanced program that makes connections in each of six major academic areas along with the opportunity to demonstrate your creativity, action and service to make a difference in your school and community. If you are uncertain about IB, know that at the Grade 10 level each of the courses are “pre-IB” and are an excellent opportunity for you to try out IB and make your choice as you move into grade 11.

“The IB Programme provides the perfect environment for students to grow as scholars,

world citizens and insightful, ambitious adults.”

-Jeff Shin, LOHS Class of 2012

Leadership and ClubsStudents at Lillian Osborne are empowered to make a

difference in their school, their community, and, we believe,

their world. That’s why every grade 10 student participates

in TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) Leadership

15. This includes a variety of leadership and character

building seminars, events, and speakers throughout the year

and culminates in every grade 10 student participating in

a volunteer experience in the community. From mentoring

kindergarten students to helping at the Food Bank or Humane

Society, our students reach beyond the walls of our school

and into the community to make the world a better place. In

fact, each grade 10 students has, on average given more than

50 hours in service during the school year; that’s over 18,000

hours dedicated to make our world a better place! No wonder

there is such a buzz in our school with so many clubs, charity

events and extra-curricular activities going on!

Many students choose to continue in TEAM Leadership

25/35 and many are part of Students’ Council, which plans

fun events throughout the year as well as charity drives,

such as Helping Hampers or disaster relief. Plus, our super

enthusiastic LOOP (Lillian Osborne Orientation Program)

Crew welcomes and supports new grade 10 students, and

there are literally dozens of cool extra-curricular clubs that

run throughout the school year!

The ArtsThe Lillian Osborne Fine Arts programs are an integral and exciting part of what makes our school so vibrant and fun! Extra-curricular activities, such as our annual winter holiday performance, and ArtsFest, our year-end celebration of the Arts, traditionally involve half our student body, all working together creating all the elements of a magical show! Monthly cabarets that highlight our students’ talents give them a chance to showcase their work, from the creation of posters that advertise the event to the actual performance of scenes, songs and dance. Our Musical Theatre students rehearse and perform classic and modern pieces in productions produced in a variety of professional theatres around the city. We have multiple House Bands that perform at school events and throughout the community. Our students are often found playing guitar in the halls or rehearsing plays all over the school, providing technical support, writing poems and plays, taking photos, or shooting short videos. Take a quick walk around our school, and meet the hundreds of students that are so excited and energized by their learning and involvement in the Arts!

We a r e

quickly living up to the name

“Legends” when it comes to Osborne Athletics! Sure, we

are the new school in town, and it takes time to build an athletics program

from the ground up. That’s to be expected. What wasn’t expected, however, has been the meteoric

growth in the number of athletics teams available, or the early success that many of our teams have

already experienced. We are proud to offer a multitude of athletic and leadership opportunities

to our students, and by combining the right coaches with committed, keen student athletes, there really is

no limit to where Osborne Athletics will go in the next few years! Which team will create history by bringing

home the next championship? And will you be here to experience the excitement or, even better, be in

the middle of the action as an Osborne athlete and know that you were a part of the making of a legend?
