4 Cross section of AB-cock type ABM 12

KLINGER AB-cocks are simple, ex-tremely robust shut-off valves whichhave been developed to meet the spe-cial requirements of Instrumentationservices. Due to their absolute reliabil-ity and economy they are employed bythe million.

Operating principleA cylindrical cock plug, which has

a stop rigidly attached by a circlip, andan elastic packing sleeve ensure fastopening and shutting of the cock via90° rotation. Pressure gauges of thetype MAB do not have a stop but typeMABAL is equipped with a stop.

The cock is operated with a handlewhich can be removed (protectionagainst unauthorized operation). Allcocks are shut by a clockwise rotationexcept types ABIE and MABAL whichare shut via counter-clockwise rotation.

Advantages of AB cocks• 90° operation permits immediate

opening and shutting• Generously dimensioned sealing

surface guarantees leak-tight sealacross the ports and to the atmo-sphere – hence no false instru-ment readings.

• May be used for throttling pur-poses and therefore inblow-down lines.

• Simple design (only one movingpart) ensures uninterrupted oper-ation.

• The packing sleeve, the only partsubjected to wear, can be re-placed within minutes with thecock staying in the line.

KLINGERThe KLINGER-name has become a

synonym for valves and seals in Eu-rope. The enterprise produces valvessince more than hundred years. In 1886the founder of the company, RichardKLINGER, discovered the reflex glasswhich became the first reliable liquidlevel gauge. Other world-wide knownproducts followed such as “Klingerit”(the first It-sealing material) and thepiston valve.

KLINGER is an international groupwhich originates from Austria. The par-ent factory was built in 1892 inGumpoldskirchen, near Vienna, and isnow only one out of many all over theworld. Further companies were estab-lished in Germany, England, Australia,South Africa, South-, Central and NorthAmerica and manufacturing licenceswere assigned in several countries. Allthese companies together cover the

worldwide demand for Klinger productstoday.

• Packing sleeves of KAF andKOR-AF – fabricated from graphiteor SIL-laminate – are treated withPTFE which ensures smooth opera-tion of the cock throughout the lifetime of the packing sleeve.

• Resistant to nearly every mediummet in the different branches of in-dustry such as steam, hot water, oils,solutions, many alkalis, acids andnumerous chemicals.

• Suitable for especially aggressivemedia are packing sleeves of thequality KFG (= PTFE reinforced withglass fibre) and PTFE.

Simple maintenanceIf after years an AB- or MAB-cock

starts to leak all that needs to be doneis for the nut to be fastened so that thepacking sleeve is tightly enclosing theplug. Therefore the cock must be inOPEN position. Economical because re-placeable without problems.

Disassembly / installationNote: Each KLINGER-cock comes

with a detailed mounting instruction.Loosen the cap screw (17), remove

locking disc (10), unscrew tighteningnut (9), loosen the lever screw (15), re-move washer (16) and lever (11) fromthe cock plug (7). Remove safety ring(19) and the stop (14) from the cockplug (7). Knock the cock plug (7) to-

gether with the split ring (8) and thepacking sleeve (6) out of the body (1).Remove the split ring (8) and push theplug (7) through the packing sleeve (6).Now replace the packing sleeve and to-gether with plug and split ring push itback into the body whereby you have toalign the tongue of the packing sleevewith the groove inside the body. Putstop, safety ring and lever back into

place and fix with the lever screw. Bringcock to open position, tighten screwwith indicated torque (15 Nm +15Nm)and secure with locking disc.
