3 Installation and Backing Out of Installation
High level instructions have been included in past Change Requests (CRs) and appear below. These instructions may change for clarity or as the CMS Automation Development team move past the enrichment phases of releases. Please read all instructions carefully before installing any Power Pack.
3.1 Installation steps
1. Navigate to System > Power-Packs > Actions > Install Power-Pack.
2. Capture the Power Pack content list for use in verification and as a checklist in case the need arises to back out the Power Pack.
3.2 Post-Installation
1. Verify that the Power Pack contents have been installed. The content list appears in the Power Pack installer window (refer to Step 2 of the Installation steps).
3.3 Backing Out of Installation
2. Navigate to System > Power-Packs then click the checkbox beside the Power-Pack you want to remove.
3. At the bottom of the screen, under Select Action, select Delete Power-Pack.
4. Select Go.
Diagnostic Power Pack Release 10.1
4 Post Installation Configuration
4.1 Required Configuration
4.1.1 Configure Authentication
This Power Pack includes automations that collect information from a remote device using Telnet/SSH and that interact with Em7 via the REST API. In order for an automation to make a successful connection to a remote device, valid credentials must be aligned with the Automation Remote Login Dynamic Application. This dynamic application should already be aligned with the targeted device.
Automations can use the REST API without supplying a password if the database instance has the IP address of the collector instance configured as an appliance in the system. The important thing to note here is the address is examined when the collector initiates contact with the database instance. This means if the collector and database do not share the same local network, than its possible for NAT or firewalls to alter the source address before the database examines it.
4.1.2 API Authentication
If the IPv4 address of the database instance is private then no configuration to access the API is necessary. Conversely, if the IPv4 address of the database instance is private then two Run Book Actions must be configured to have valid credentials in order to communicate with the API:
CMS: Util: CLI Enrich Inline
CMS: Util: CLI Enrich Attach
The configured credentials must have its port value set to 443. The username and password must also be
valid API credentials. The hostname and timeout fields are not required.
4.1.3 Device Authentication
There are two methods to configure device authentication. Choose the one of the methods listed below.
1. Using the included Dynamic Application
Included in this Power-Pack is a Dynamic Application titled Automation Remote Login. By aligning this dynamic application to a device, you have the ability to choose credentials to align with it. The automation will then use these aligned credentials when remote login is required. The device credentials aligned must have a remote port of 22 or 23. Follow these steps to configure Automation Remote Login:
5. Under the Collections tab, add the Dynamic Application Automation Remote Login to a device.
6. In the Add Dynamic Application window, align any valid credentials for use with remote login.
NOTE: The credentials port must be 22 or 23.
2. Manually Configuring Snippet Credential
The automations in this Power-Pack also support explicitly specifying global credentials to be used for all devices when connecting via Telnet/SSH. The device credentials aligned must have a remote port of 22 or 23. The following section outlines how to configure the snippet credentials.
7. Go to Registry -> Actions to open the Action Policy Manager screen.
8. Search for Action Name CMS: Util: CLI Enrich Inline and click the wrench icon.
9. In the Action Editor dialogue box that opens, select the desired credentials listed under Snippet Credential.
10. Click Save.
11. Repeat steps 2-4 for the action CMS: Util: CLI Enrich Attach.
NOTE: You must use the Dynamic Application if you had to assign API credentials to the actions.
Diagnostic Power Pack Release 10.1
5 Recommended Configuration
5.1 Adjust Policy Settings
The automation policies included in this Power-Pack by default have a delay of 2 minutes. This allows for the local ticketing mechanism to create a ticket so that it is available for the included automations to update.
Depending on the local ticketing policy delay, adjust the following automation policies accordingly. To adjust the delay, follow these steps:
12. Go to Registry -> Run Book -> Automation.
13. Find the automation policy name you want to configure. See Section Included Automation Policies.
14. Select the wrench icon to open the Automation Policy Editor.
15. Under Criteria Logic, change the field in the second row to the desired delay.
Diagnostic Power Pack Release 10.1
6 Optional Configuration
6.1 Configure Ticket Update
The default update method used in the enrichment policies is to update tickets inline for command output and to attach syslog messages to the ticket.
If a different behavior is preferred, follow these steps depending on the enrichment type:
For command output choose either CMS: Util: CLI Enrich Inline for inline enrichments or CMS: Util: CLI Enrich Attach for attachments
For syslog enrichment, follow the syslog collector action with either CMS: Util: Ticket Attach Note or CMS: Util: Ticket Inline Note
Diagnostic Power Pack Release 10.1
7 Included Error Tracking
The following error events are included with the Diagnostics Power Pack Release 10.1.
These events are enabled by default and provide a mechanism to track and or automate error handling from alerts that may be emitted from automations that reside in this Power Pack. Use of these events is optional and may be disabled to suit site-specific requirements. These events are enabled by default, and provide a mechanism should you choose to use them via automation policies to track and or automate error handling from alerts emitted from automations in this Power Pack.
7.1 CmsAutomation.Error
This is a base event used to match all CMS automation alerts.
7.2 CmsAutomation.CredentialError
Raises an error with the message “Valid credentials could not be not found.”
7.3 CmsAutomation.ApiError
Raises an error with the message “Communication error with the REST API.”
7.4 CmsAutomation.TicketError
Raises an error with the message “Could not locate and or update ticket.”
7.5 CmsAutomation.CliError
Raises an error with the message “Remote device CLI generic error.”
7.6 CmsAutomation.CliTimeout
Raises an error with the message “Timeout attempting to contact remote device CLI.”
7.7 CmsAutomation.CliAuthError
Raises an error with the message “One or more password entries failed to authenticate with remote device CLI.”
