I t has been my greatest pleasure to host the congress in Kyoto held in April 2018 and assume the role of President of the Urological Association of Asia (UAA). Since taking the position of UAA’s Director of Science in 2003, I have been participating in UAA’s initiatives for the past 15 years. In 2010, I was appointed as the Secretary General (SG) for 4 years succeeding the former SG, Professor Masaru Murai, and have been involved with building the foundations of UAA. In the 15 years of which I witnessed, UAA has advanced greatly and became a grand society consisting of members from 25 countries/regions, including one affiliate association, USANZ. e global initiatives have been widely recognized, and UAA has become an association highly acclaimed by organizations that represent the urologists around the world such as the AUA, EAU, and SIU. In fact, we were also able to see great advancement in terms of finance. We started receiving member fees from the member associations, and by holding annual academic meetings, our financial foundation has become stable. With this as our capital, we are able to promote educational initiatives towards urologists in Asia as an Asian School of Urology. I believe that UAA have been making major contributions towards the improvement of Asia’s medical care in urology which our association aims for. At the Young Leaders’ WS which I hosted at Kyoto in 2010, 29 young urologists representing the 17 member associations joined together to discuss face-to-face the matters regarding the creation of Asia urology guidelines for two days 1) . Triggered by this event, UAA established the Youth Section, and it has currently been developing into Asia Urological Resident Course held under the support from AUA and the Young Urologist Section under the support of EAU at annual meetings. Moreover, guidelines for BPH/LUTS, urinary tract infectious disease, and urinary atone disease were created, and a guideline for bladder cancer is in progress. We also saw remarkable development in academic areas. Several sub-specialty societies in Asia became affiliates of UAA, and we have active academic exchanges with them. In addition, the International Journal of Urology became the official journal of UAA in 2011, and many urologists from UAA member associations have started to contribute as Editorial Boards. In this way, the Urological Association of Asia is steadily moving forward. We would like to ask for your support for the further development of our association. My dear colleagues of UAA: I am reporting to you what have happened since the first year of my second term to serve you as the Secretary General. First of all, I wish you a peaceful and fruitful coming year. As the Secretary General of UAA I am always considering I have a great burden regarding how to elevate the scope and the level of our beloved society as quickly as possible. Apart from the works that have been successfully conducted including educational events of Asian School of Urology (ASU), we now have Youth Session which is collaborating with EAU (European Association of Urology) and the Asian Urology Resident Course (AURC) which is in collaboration with AUA (American Urological Association) in our annual meeting. e participants of both youth session and AURC are growing year by year, and the responses and feedbacks from the attendants are very positive. It is indeed a good sign which shows that our efforts in elevating our young generation are blooming. e UAA has attracted more and more participants to the annual meeting in past 5 years, and the number of our individual members in increasing steadily. More encouragingly, there are more countries show their willingness to bid for the future annual meeting. For example, in year 2017 there were eight countries try to bid for the 2021 annual meeting and I will like to congratulate USANZ (Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand) won the bid and it means that we will have an annual meeting in Sydney soon. My dear colleagues, all of the above-mentioned achievements would not be possible without the helps from my cabinets, the central secretariat, all members and friends. I truly believe if I go alone I go fast, but if we go together we go far. More importantly, UAA is a very harmonic family, the people who join UAA all share the same core value and agree that education as well as patient care is our nature duty as physicians. Without your help and support, UAA cannot go this far. I sincerely urge that let us work hand-in-hand, and heart with heart for a better future of UAA. Recently, I have a chance to visit a charity activity organized by our previous President, Professor Yinghao Sun from China. By love sharing and philanthropic reason, he has organized 11 successfully activities for medical charity, the campaign is called “walking through all China prostate”. Under his leadership and efficient administrative ability, amazing amount of people have benefited from this campaign. is campaign started from 2016 and to date they have held 11 events which offered free medical clinical visit to 200,000 people, and there were 40,000 charity operations have been performed. After a long and sincere talk with Professor Sun, we both are willing to devote more efforts to this kind of activity, and not only for China but also for other countries in Asia. It would be a visionary action and a great platform for UAA. Initially, Professor Yinghao Sun and myself will be the co-chairman for this philanthropic organization which will not only support China but also other Asian countries if in need. is is actually the true core value of why UAA was established. We want to not only elevating the horizon of the doctors, but also to improve the care for our Asian patients and the community. Asian School of Urology has done great jobs in the past, however facing the fact that the scope of Asian Continent is so huge, it is really too difficult to input activities covering all 25 nations by a small central secretariat of UAA and few doctors in ASU to work out in-depth education and to improve patient care in all Asian countries. I also proposed a great idea to establish an UAA - China Academy, or other UAA- affiliated Academy, and I am also willing to help Professor Sun to make this act successful. With the help of Professor Sun and many Chinese urological leaders, the educational and charity activities will be penetrating into China and spreading to other countries more easily. With this strategy, we will have a strong and efficient network within UAA to make our educational and philanthropic activity throughout the whole Asia easier. Another important issue is our website. e new UAA website is launched this May, which matches the standard of EAU or AUA website. It is a both user-friendly and informative platform and has online membership zone. Soon we will launch video library which allows video clip sharing. rough the web site, you can learn the contents of many educational activities occurred in different area of Asia, obtain more new information in Asian Urology and download photos of you and your fellow Asian friends. Asia Urology is becoming stronger and it is reaching the level of America and Europe Urological competitors. I appreciate so much for your help to make all of these dreams come turn. I believe that you all agree robotic surgery is the trend of our future development. By the help of the many leading robotic surgeons from all over Asia we have successfully held the consortium meeting of Asian Robotic Urological Society (ARUS) in Kuala Lumpur in January this year, it attracted almost all leading robotic urological surgeons from many different countries including Malaysia, China, Singapore, India, Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, ailand and Taiwan to join this meeting, and I am glad that Professor Mario Sung from South Korea has been elected as the interim president for the first term of the ARUS and I believe under his great leadership, this official sub-society of UAA will pass the agreement in the council meeting of UAA, and this sub-society will become very successful. is event has great symbolic meaning, it means that in the future if there is any subspecialty group wants to establish under the umbrella of UAA, you need to pass through the agreement in the council members which is the highest administrative meeting in UAA. Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to the Malaysia urological team for preparing the 2019 UAA annual meeting. I truly believe, this year 2019 UAA meeting will be extremely successful, not only on academy level but also on social activities. In January, I had a chance to visit Phnom Penh, Cambodia to organize a symposium for an Asian School of Urology event which focused on the application of shock wave lithotripsy in Urology. After the meeting, I truly realize how urgent we need to help our Asian colleague countries to improve their facility and medical care in Urology. I pray and ask for more young outstanding urologists from Asia to join UAA, to devote on more philanthropic and educational works. Finally, I would like to quote the wisdom from Sir William Olser, the father of modern western medical education “You are in this profession as a calling, not as a business; as a calling which exacts from you at every turn self-sacrifice, devotion, love and tenderness to your fellowmen. Once you get down to a purely business level, your influence is gone and the true light of your life is dimmed”. Wish all my friends in UAA healthy and happy. COUNCIL OF THE UROLOGICALASSOCIATION OF ASIA

Dear Colleagues and Friends,On behalf of the UAA2019 Organising

Committee, it is our immense pleasure to welcome you to the 17th Urological Association of Asia Congress (UAA) 2019, to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 7th-10th August 2019.

Th is is the second time since 2002, that this prestigious event is hosted by the Malaysian Urological Association (MUA). Th is previously biennial event has now grown so much in stature that it has since 2015 been held as an annual event, further underlining its importance and relevance

to the Asian Urology community. Th e UAA Congress truly is the meeting-place for Urologists where experts can gather to update, brainstorm, share information and speak on the latest developments pertaining to Urology.

Th e theme for the 2019 Congress is: “Unifying Asia Th ru Urology” – especially relevant in today’s setting, where achievements in the fi eld of urology have been at the forefront of advances in technology and need to be shared across Asia. Encompassing the congress theme is our comprehensive scientifi c programme

featuring semi-live surgeries, the latest state-of-the-art lectures and key opinions from renowned Asian and International experts, in-depth Masterclasses, Affi liated Societies meetings, Resident Training course, Youth program and Nursing symposiums.

Th e MUA is indeed honoured to host the UAA Congress in Kuala Lumpur in 2019. We are grateful that the UAA Council has given us this opportunity. Th e Congress will be held at the prestigious and state of the Art Kuala Lumpur Convention which should be able to provide ample facilities for our Scientifi c Programme and Social events.

Malaysia is a well-known tourist destination, with its multi-cultural attractions, its food and its exciting and accessible holiday destinations. Th ere is the

opportunity for all delegates to explore Kuala Lumpur city and the rest of Malaysia.

Welcome to UAA Congress 2019

T he Urological Association of Asia (UAA) publishes a renowned English language journal,

International Journal of Urology (IJU), in partnership with the Japanese Urological Association (JUA). IJU has an excellent reputation in the fi eld of Urology and the editors work tirelessly to ensure IJU is truly “the urology journal of Asia”. Every year IJU has around 1,000 submissions from all over the world.

In November 2018, the UAA and JUA also published the fi rst issue of a new sister journal to IJU, IJU Case Reports which is an Open Access, peer-reviewed online journal. IJU Case Reports further builds on the UAA’s goal to promote urology in Asia, by publishing unique and novel case reports in urology, which are immediately accessible to all.

About two-thirds of the submissions to IJU originate from Asian countries (Fig. 1). A slight decrease in submissions to IJU has occurred recently as case reports are now submitted directly to IJU Case reports, instead of IJU. In 2018

the number of submissions from Asia was 605. Th e overall acceptance rate in 2018 was 15.1%; approximately 63.7% of submissions were immediately rejected before peer review.

Each year, the editors have made every eff ort to shorten the publication latency as well as reduce the overall acceptance to online publication time. Th e average time from acceptance to online publication in 2018 was 3.97 months. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the more than 650 reviewers who have provided reviews for IJU in 2018, and the eff orts of those reviewers who contributed such high-quality editorial comments. In 2017, IJU received 596 citations and achieved an Impact Factor of 1.941, an increase from 2016. Th e editors hold regular committee meetings and discuss matters thoroughly to ensure the smooth running of the journal and continue its mission to publish outstanding research in urology. We would like our members to read more IJU content and refer to IJU in your research.

Th e number of submissions to IJU Case reports in 2018 was 55 with 80% of submissions from Japan. Th e fi rst issue (including seven articles) was published in late 2018 and six issues of IJU Case Reports will be published in 2019.

From 2017, IJU is a completely online journal. If you are a member of UAA,

you can subscribe the journal for US$20. Please sign up for table of contents e-alerts so that you can keep up to date with the latest research being published in IJU. We look forward to your article submissions to IJU and IJU Case reports.

Th is is a great pleasure to publish the 2019 edition of the Asian Urology. Th is time there was a 16-month in-terval after the previous edition was published at the 16th UAA congress in Kyoto, Japan in April 2018. In the pre-vious Congress, UAA Executive Committee reappointed Professor Allen W. Chiu to Secretary General of UAA, who reshuffl ed the Cabinet for his second term. As Professor Rajeev Kumar, the immediate former Editor, has been promoted to the Chair of Scientifi c Committee, I was given the honor of taking over his position.

As Secretary General for UAA Congress 2018 in Kyoto and Program Director of Asian Urology Resident Course (AURC), I dedicated myself to facilitating the improvement of Asian urology through providing inspiring opportunities for shar-ing our knowledge, skills and technologies on the basis of international networking and collaboration, particularly for the urologists in younger generation.

UAA has long been dedicated to upbringing future leaders in Asian Urology with a global point of view. Th e principle has been now realized as AURC in col-laboration with the American Urological Association (AUA) and Young Urologists’ Session (YUS) in collaboration with the European Association of Urology (EAU).

In this newsletter, you will fi nd information on the programs, fellowships and opportunities available to members and reports of the past benefi ciaries. We hope these will inspire more members to apply for the programs in the next year. If you wish to contribute to this newsletter or our website (www.uaanet.org), please do not hesitate to contact us.

CO-OPTED EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBERS

COUNCIL OF THE UROLOGICAL ASSOCIATION OF ASIA

August 2019 Page 5

T he 16th Urological Association of Asia Congress 2018 was held from 17-20th April 2018, at

Kyoto International Conference Center. Congress theme was “Discover Tomorrow of Urology –Message from Asia to the World–”. We put our hope for the future of urology on this theme. Th ere is also a link to the theme of Games of the XXXII Olympiad –Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 – .

UAA Congress was back in Japan for the fi rst time after 1990, when the 1st UAA congress gave birth in Fukuoka (President: Professor Joichi Kumazawa). In line with it, Annual Meeting of Japanese Urological Association (JUA2018), which was held in conjunction with UAA2018, was also back in Kyoto for the fi rst time after 1993, when Professor Osamu Yoshida hosted the 81st JUA Annual Meeting.

Asian urology is characterized by its vast area with great diversity in disease spectrum, culture, ethnicity, languages and social and healthcare systems. Toward our goal to improve our understanding, practice and care of our patients and urological diseases, we believe that it is very important to share our knowledge, technology, skill, and passion on urology fi eld. Th e 16th UAA Congress was held in conjunction with the 106th Annual

Meeting of JUA, one of the biggest national society in Asia, through which we tried to provide our valuable UAA members with opportunities to be exposed to esprit of JUA.

We planned 4-day program that was not so packed, and therefore aff ord our participants to enjoy experience the culture and atmosphere in Kyoto. We were delighted to welcome over 1343 delegates and friends from over 36 countries. Most of our plenary sessions, including 8 Special Educational Lectures, 7 Educational Lectures, 5 “Message from Asia” sessions, 3 “Discover Tomorrow” sessions, 4 “Up-to-Date” sessions were shared with JUA program and covered very hot topics in every major urological subspecialty. We would like to thank the scientifi c committee for their tremendous work putting together such a wonderful program. We received a total of 552 papers for the Congress resulting in 461 abstracts including 78 presentations in 12 oral sessions, 217 moderated posters in 25 sessions, and 166 unmoderated posters. You may now access to the abstracts on the supplement issue of International Journal of Urology through Wiley Online Library or via this link: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/toc/14422042/2018/25/S1. We thank all the authors for their

enthusiastic high-quality submissions, and moderators for their excellent chairpersonship supporting us to acquire new knowledge and understand how to manage urological problems in Asia. One of the most diffi cult tasks for us was to select 20 outstanding presentations from these superb abstracts. We believe that the winners should be really honored by this and devote more eff ort to pursue their career. In addition to main programs, we had a lot more attractive affi liated programs including Urology Nursing Program, UAA Youth Section, Asian Urology Resident Course, and Meetings of UAA-affi liated subspecialty societies. We would also like to thank 73 sponsor companies who supported 22 seminars.

Besides the scientifi c programs, we had a lot of unforgettable moments in our social events. In the Opening Ceremony and following Welcome Party on Tuesday April 17th, many participants were thrilled by Japanese traditional Geigi and Maiko, and moving from static to dynamic, an overwhelming performance by Kyoto Tachibana High School Brass Band, and splendid fi reworks right in front of the banquet hall. Th e Presidential Dinner was held in Daikaku-ji temple on Wednesday 18th, which is one of the most historical temple in Kyoto. It is very famous for the beautiful scenery with Stone stage in the middle of the garden and Osawa-no-ike pond next to the temple, especially in the cherry blossom season. We had a very good time in the mystic evening atmosphere of spring Kyoto. Gala Dinner took place in Okazaki Koen Park on

Th ursday 19th, just adjacent to Heian Jingu Shrine, one of the biggest shrines in Kyoto. We welcomed our participants with Japanese casual foods and cultures. Best abstracts winners were awarded during the Dinner reception. UAA/JUA Joint Faculty Dinner was held at Grand Price Hotel Kyoto on Friday 20th. A lot of participants were attracted by Japanese traditional Iwami Kagura performance and “We Are the Urology” video. We thank all “casts” who joined our special movie.

As the President of the Congress, I would like to thank the UAA Executive Committee and Co-opt members for their tremendous support, advice and understanding in the last three years since we were elected to host the Congress. Without their leadership, we could not have even expected today’s development in urology in Asia. We are also grateful to our “sleepless” local organizing committee, scientifi c committee, social committee, the abstract reviewing team for their tremendous eff ort in the preparation of the Congress. Organizing this event together with JUA Annual Meeting was a great challenge for us but now I cannot be too proud of the Congress. I also would like to thank all of you who have been supporting the UAA events. Let us keep walking together to improve our patient care, expand our partnership and mutual support. I look forward to see all of you in the next UAA congress in Malaysia August 7-10, 2019.

My dear colleagues of UAA:Recently I had a chance to go to

Cambodia and held a successful Asian School of Urology educational symposium regarding shockwave application in

urology (the attached agenda) on January 16th, 2019. It was the fi rst time in the history of Cambodia Urology, such an educational event was held in Royal Phnom Penh Hospital. Th ere were more than 100

participants in the meeting and enjoy knowledge sharing from the faculties. Th e topic was chiefl y covering the application of shock wave application in Urology. As the Secretary General of UAA, I feel great joy to witness the opportunity to elevate the

standard of care to any country needs help, like Cambodia. I would like to thank Professor Seng Huor Prak and Professor Sopheap Bou and Professor Korvin Lam from Cambodia who joined this meaningful activity. I also want to thank my Taiwanese colleagues, Professor Edward Chen and Professor Hung-Jen Wang to share their experience, and Professor Bannakij Lojanapiwat from Th ailand to make this evet successfully. An interview with me was also arranged to make this event more open to the society. Th e help from Superintendent Narintara Boonjongcharoen is also warmly appreciated. I really hope all Asian urologists can join more activities like this to help our friends. My topic is focusing on introduce UAA to all attendants and also introduce the concept of minimally invasive technology such as endourology. Many urological operations that were once done by open surgery can now be performed through the laparoscopic surgery. Th ere are varieties of training programs in Asian region such

as educational courses in annual meeting of UAA, and many laparoscopic training programs or other educational symposium by ASU, like this time in Cambodia were established at many countries in Asia.

G reetings from Tokyo. Th e goal and motto of Asian School of Urology is to nurture the platform to achieve “Better Urology for Asia”. Asian School of Urology has been actively involved in organizing Asian Urological Resident

Course (AURC, together with AUA faculties), Master Course (together with EAU faculties) and Youth Section at our annual meeting. We have sent 12 UAA lecturers and 6 additional faculties to regional meetings. UAA Asian Urology Forum in conjunction with Taiwan Urological Association was also organized last year in Taiwan. Lastly we sent 4 trainees to attend USANZ Trainee Week last November. Considering the size of UAA as a whole, I must say there still remains a large capacity of activity to expand and promote. Please forward any request directly to the headquarters so as to arrange things accordingly and timely.

In my early days, a senior surgeon at home one day taught me his knack how to improve skills in surgery. He himself made it a must to follow his surgery textbook all the time just the day before even in procedures he had been familiar with. Th e textbook became his original since he took so many notes on it for years. I followed his advice since he was my hero at that time. Th at was already decades ago and well before the internet era. Th is anecdote may be outdated and not apply to your current taining status. We are going to have more sophisticated tool to learn and share cutting-edge knowledge in urology very soon. UAA headquarter has fi nally approved our educational web platform after years of discussion. Dr. Takahiro Kimura, the Chairman of Website, is now in charge. We will have the system ready at least by the end of the year. Th is will enable to easily share medical and surgical know-how since it is similar to You-tube (Allen once cracked a joke to call the system as U-tube). He will publicize it to our members shortly.

We together walk hand in hand to reach the height. Our collaboration will steam along.

Asian Urology Resident Course (AURC) 2018Kyoto – a memorable learning experience

I had the privilege of being nominated by Singapore Urological Association (SUA) to attend AURC 2018 which was held

at Grand Prince Hotel, Kyoto, Japan. This was my first visit to Japan. AURC was scheduled before Urological Association of Asia (UAA) congress’ 2018. The time and location can’t be any better and April is the most popular month to visit Kyoto, with the blooming of the famous cherry blossoms.

The course was very well conducted and I had great opportunity to meet residents from all over Asia. Day 1 lectures started with Asian perspective on kidney cancer, prostate cancer, female urology and urodynamics, infection, reconstruction and laparoscopy. As urodynamics case studies and surgical management of vesico-vaginal fistulas kindled my thoughts, surgical repair of hypospadias and prostate cancer pathology gave finishing touch to the end of Day 1.

As I strolled back to my hotel, the charming cherry blossoms kindled the photographer in me to unfold my camera gear and to the tune of enchanting shutter sound from my camera, the beautiful Sakura’s smile were captured deep in my camera’s sensitive image sensor. While AURC lectures were a treat to my knowledge, Sakura served a visual treat.

The calmness, discipline, humbleness of Japanese people made me fall in love with their culture.

After a wonderful first day, I looked forward for the second day of lectures. Day 2 kicked off with American Urological Association (AUA) lectures by eminent speakers on hot topics like prostate cancer imaging, urothelial cancer, BPH and stone diseases. A full day of lectures gave a wealth of knowledge which I reflected upon in my iPad and until today, the notes were useful for my exam preparation. AURC finished off with a challenging AUA MCQ exam on Day 3 and the exam threw light on the competency required at this level of my residency.

The beauty of Kyoto and the AURC/UAA conference locations were amazing and after ensuring all local laws were adhered to, I took off to air with my Mavic Pro drone to capture a breath taking aerial view of Kyoto. The compiled video until today and forever will remind me the wonderful AURC, that I have been part of.

I would definitely recommend this course to my fellow residents. Some of my camera photos below will show that it was definitely an experience of a lifetime!

A sian Urology Resident Course (AURC) was formerly known as Urology Resident Course and

had long been held in Singapore. Thanks for tremendous effort by former directors and secretaries, it has now become a must-attend program for senior residents in Asia. In view of its importance and popularity, the UAA executive committee decided that the URC would be held in conjunction with the UAA annual congress. The URC was given a new name –AURC, and held for the first time in conjunction with the 14th Annual Congress of UAA Singapore 2016. In 2017, AURC was held for the first time outside Singapore; during the 15th Annual Congress of UAA Hong Kong 2017. This is therefore the third time for AURC to be held in this form as apart of the UAA Congress. Through collaboration between Urological Association of Asia, American Urological Association and Japanese Urological Association, the third AURC was successfully held in Kyoto, Japan with the support of some dedicated urologists - Professors Osamu Ogawa, Shin Egawa, Masato Fujisawa, Christopher L. Amling, Joseph Liao, John Thomas Wei, John Denstedt, Michael Wong, Eddie Chan, Ho Yee Tiong, Motohide Uemura, Teruo Inamoto, Tsuyoshi Majima, Yosuke Matsuta, Shingo Yamamoto, Akihiro Kanematsu, Toyonori Tsuzuki, Hidefumi

Kinoshita, Kenji Yoshida, KT Foo, Tarmono Djojodimedjo as the advisors and lecturers. The 2018 AURC consisted of a two and half-day program from April 15 to April 17, 2018 and took place at Grand Prince Hotel Kyoto under the leadership of program committee members, Drs. Michael Wong, Eddie Chan, Ho Yee Tiong, and Takashi Kobayashi.

The sessions on Day 1 consisted of 15-minutes lectures by 10 local speakers and 10-minutes presentations by 14 residents, on the topics of kidney cancer, female urology and urodynamics, infection, reconstruction, prostate cancer and laparoscopy. After the program on Day 1 finished, a dinner reception was held at Rihga Royal Hotel Kyoto.

On Day 2, four AUA faculties gave lectures of their particular expertise; Professor Christpher L. Amling on prostate cancer, Professor Joseph Liao on urothelial cancer, Professor John Thomas Wei on BPH/Male LUTS, and Professor John Denstedt on urolithiasis.

On Day 3, after Professor KT Foo and Professor Tarmono Djojodimedjo gave lectures on BPH and urological trauma, respectively, participants took the AUA International MCQ Examination for evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of the education in a training program, as well as the performance and progress of individual examinees. This Exam

is not designed to judge competence, therefore, outcome does not include pass or fail. The purpose of the Exam is to improve the quality of education by providing objective data to faculty and residents by assessing and identifying topics for additional instruction. After the Course, the completed answer sheets were couriered to AUA Examination Team. The participants were provided with the answers of the MCQ questions. The participants received their certificate of attendance right after the examination.

The course was well attended by 54 residents nominated by 18 member associations and 27 paid delegates. Some photos which were taken during the

Course were made available for sharing. Additionally, course slides used in the course, as far as permission from the lecturer was obtained, were distributed to the participants the other day, which might be useful for their review.

In conclusion, the AURC provided medical education for the young professionals and the opportunities for their networking. The course is well characterized by the international collaboration among member associations and AUA. We hope the participants, particularly young urologists from all around Asia keeps good memories and networks they experienced in the beautiful Spring of Kyoto.

Consortium of Asian Robotic Urological Society (ARUS) conjoined with Asian School of Urology Educational Symposium

on Robotic Urology in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

I t was my fi rst time to attend the Asian Urology Resident Course. Th is compact course provided a good

opportunity for trainees to quickly review the diff erent topics in urology, right before the UAA congress. Th e various lectures, being delivered by the specialist in each according fi eld, gave us a good insight into each topic. Th e course contents were well organized and spaced out with refreshing coff ee breaks in between, which created

the best atmosphere for learning.Th e attendees included members

from all around Asia, which was a brand new experience to me. Sitting in the conference room kept giving me the déjà vu of sitting in the lectures during the days of medical school. Th e only diff erence was that I was studying with a diff erent group of classmates this time. Although the course usually lasts for the whole day, there were always opportunities for us

to mix up and make new friends during the breaks and the night. Not to mention that the course took place in the season of spring in the beautiful Kyoto, when sakura blossoms everywhere. Strolling along the streets in the night, from the chilly shadow of a shrine to the hussling neonlights of bars and restaurants, brings a complete diff erent experience to me. I even spent one night on a little night expedition to the famous Fushimi Inari Shrine. I was virtually walking into a movie, without any tourists around during the night.

How fascinating! I would defi nitely recommend this

course to my other fellow trainees.

Allen W. ChiuSecretary General, Urological Association of AsiaProfessor, Department of Urology, National Yang-Ming University, Taipei Medical University, School of Medicine, Taiwan

My dear colleagues of UAA:I am honored to have the trust of all council members to continue my second term

as the secretary general of UAA. I feel I really need your help to carry out this heavy burden to make UAA stronger in the near future. Besides all on-going activities and educational programs, several important initiatives are being arranged effi ciently. From my observation, it is obvious that Robotic assisted surgery is becoming a major trend in urological development. Considering the fact that America and Europe markets are almost saturated now and we believe it is the right timing for Asia urologists to shine especially in the fi eld of Robotic assisted surgery at this moment.

On January 19, 2019, we have gathered more than 30 internationally renowned Asian experts to join a consortium meeting for Asian Robotic Urology Society (ARUS) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Th ere were more than 130 participants in this high standard meeting. Th e main purpose of it is to work together with Asian School of Urology (AUS) to organize an around-Asia trip regarding several workshops on Robotic surgery at a regular basis (initially, we design to have a quarterly workshop around several countries in Asia). In the successful meeting, several important topics have been addressed, including current status of Robot Urology in Asia, Robotic assisted radical prostatectomy, Robotic assisted partial nephrectomy, single port Da Vinci system, new

advances in Artifi cial Intelligent and surgery and introductions to other new coming machines of Robotic surgery.

Considering the initiative was designed to form a sustainable structure for robotic surgery, it has also passed at the EXCO meeting of UAA the next day. Th en, we will discuss this issue at the 28th Business Meeting of the General Council of UAA in August this year in Kuala Lumpur. I am happy to know Professor Gyung Tak (Mario) Sung from South Korea, has been elected as the Interim President of this society. He will present the by-laws, proposed activities for further workshops, relationship with UAA and propose names to form an offi cial committee. It means that in the future annual meeting you can join together to address important cutting-edge lectures and discuss the development of Robotic Urology, workshop or live surgery in every annual UAA Congress. Th e beauty of this design is that we, Asian Robotic surgeons will have an attractive and regular platform to collaborate together, and to educate almost 2,000 individual members.

We also got the agreement from Professor Michael Wong, the Inaugural President of Asian Society of Endourology (ASE) that once the ARUS is offi cially formed, ASE would join into this new society. Th e ARUS will be under the umbrella of UAA, which means UAA can easily support and work together with them. Let us again work together to make Robotic surgery booming in Asia in the next decade.

Report on UAA Youth Section 2018

Youth SectionThe UAA Youth Section, which

began in 2010, has organised the Youth Section Fellowships for 6 years at every UAA Congress starting from the 2012 Congress in Pattaya. In addition, it has held 3 meetings in conjunction with Asian Urology Symposiums in 2010 and 2011. From 2018, the Fellowship program at the UAA congress took another progressive step by collaborating with the European Association of Urology to hold the joint UAA-EAU Young Urologists Session. At the 2018 UAA congress in Kyoto, UAA and EAU signed a memorandum of understanding wherein the EAU will send three or four faculty to participate in this program every year. This will provide significant increase in the resource pool available to the program and we expect

the attending fellows to gain from the experience of the visiting faculty. The three EAU faculty for the program in 2018 were Professors Christopher Chapple, Hendrik Van Poppel, and Jens Sonksen.

For 2018, 43 applications for fellowships were received of which 35 were selected for the program. The program was spread over 2 days with a 3 hour workshop on each day, paralleling the main UAA congress to allow other congress delegates to benefit from the lectures. In addition, the fellows received complimentary first year membership to the EAU, supported by the UAA. We hope a greater number of applicants will benefit from this program to nurture the next generation of leaders of the UAA.

USANZ Trainee Week 2018 Fremantle, Melbourne, Western Australia

Background

The Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand (USANZ) in conjunction with the Board of Urology of the Royal Australiasian College of Surgeons each year invites a few senior Urological registrars/residents from different Urological

associations. Collaborations between UAA and USANZ dates back since 2009, where they inaugurated 2-4 registrars/residents to attend Trainee Week. This program is hosted by a different Section (State/NZ) each year and the clinical program is developed by the Convenor in consultation with their local Training, Accreditation and Education Committee. Skills training together with exam practice and interactive clinical sessions were some aspects that were included in the program.

This year, Fremantle hosted this highlight in the Urology training calendar and the West Australian urological community (together with some colleagues from South Australia) took part in making this annual program a success. The program was both engaging and informative. The syllabus encompasses paediatric urology, upper urinary tract and transplant, male LUTS, adrenal, renal cell cancer, bladder cancer, prostate cancer, along with dedicated radiology and pathology sessions.

As the first Indonesian to attend the meeting, I was honored and excited to represent my nation. At the end, I learnt a lot of new knowledge, and the technologies around it, that were not available in Indonesia. Most importantly, I made new friends and great networking potential for my future career.

Programme objectivesGeneral (for all)

1. As a mock exam for the Australian and New Zealand trainees 2. As a way to transfer new and cutting edge knowledge from experts in their fields 3. As a way to socialize with both trainees and consultants

Specific (for me)1. To learn how trainees in Australia and New Zealand do their exams and see the

preparations towards it 2. To make connections and networking for possible future fellowship program 3. To explore Fremantle and surrounding area

Lessons learnt/Take Home MessageTrainee Week was a remarkable, informative, groundbreaking hands-on event that

could be implemented in Indonesia. It had all the up-to-date knowledge about Urology in daily practices. All materials were delivered by experts in their field, with presentations from the USANZ registrars to stimulate the discussion. We were able to ask questions and share what we think about certain cases in regards to what’s available in different centers.

NetworkingThere were several delegates from other associations such as from The Canadian

Urological Association (CUA), British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS), European Associations of Urology (EAU), and other Trainees from the Urological Association of Asia (UAA). I also meet and chat with a lot of trainees and consultants from The Urological Association of Australia and New Zealand. We exchange information regarding the current situation and advancement in each of our countries, and types of cases that we meet in a daily basis. I also discussed the potential fellowship program in the near future. All and all, its good to meet new people and talk to them.

Benefits1. Have the opportunity to be apart of the USANZ exam simulation for Set 4 & 5

Trainee2. Have the opportunity to learn new knowledge and some skills on specific

operations 3. Have the opportunity to made new friends and great networking potential for

my future career4. Have the opportunity to experience places in Western Australia

Recommendations1. More slots for more registrars available

to attend the trainee week2. If possible, made UAA Trainee week for

UAA member country

Any other CommentsThank you for UAA and USANZ for

giving me this opportunity and stimulating experience to help me grow my knowledge and skills during my training years

Background

On behalf of Urology Society of Australia & New Zealand (USANZ), I have been nominated to attend their trainee week on November 18 in 2018 as representative from the Urology Association of Asia (UAA). The program held

at the Esplanade Hotel Frementale, Perth, WA.

Programme objectivesAll urology trainees from nSET1 – SET5 are required to attend Trainee Week, held

each year in November. This equates to approximately 80 trainees from Australia and New Zealand. Trainee Week is hosted by a different Region (State/NZ) each year and the clinical program is developed by the Convenor in consultation with their local Training Committee.

Lessons learnt/Take Home MessageThe goal of USANZ is to prepare you for the workplace and the real world. However,

at their organization, I feel I can find the warmth and guideline needed to come out of the shell, learn and conquer. After their guidance, I am confident and achieve a lot that is going to enable me to break the barriers and short-comings of my country’s Healthcare system.

NetworkingAsked questions, shared information, and make informed career choices.Attended their educational conferences and sessions. Liaise with USANZ appointed

Advisors. Found my Regional Advisor as well.

BenefitsAfter joining as foreign trainee, I realized the helplessness of the Healthcare system of

my country. This is due to lack of skill and knowledge in handling and extracting the best out of the existing man power that is available. Hope I can overcome this deficit and give good quality service to my patients with the knowledge I have acquired. I believe I can really bring a major positive change to the Urological Healthcare system of my country.

RecommendationsIn future, UAA should allow and create more scope for urology trainees to become

a true leader who can make a positive change and contribute to the Urological society of their respective country.

Any other CommentsAll session by USANZ comprised a warm-up, high intensity interval training,

strength and power, and cool down and stretch.

Background

The Trainee week conducted by USANZ was held as planned from 18th to 22nd of November this Year. I was lucky enough to be selected among many applicants by UAA to attend the same. Being a final year urology trainee myself, I intended to

take the opportunity to learn the art of exam preparation and learn from interacting with the other trainees from different part of the world and the teachers as well.

Programme objectivesThe objective of the programme was to bring together the trainees from different

part of the world under the same roof, give a consolidated knowledge on salient topics in urology and train them for the final exams. It included many lectures, viva and written exams and group case discussion to prepare the trainee for their finals and also provided a friendly environment for the trainee to interact with each other, learn how other go about their training in their respective country and see where one stands as compared to the rest of the world. Besides the knowledge gained, the number of friend made during the trainee week will always be cherished.

Lessons learnt/Take Home MessageI learnt the how to prepare for my final exam, how to approach a case and manage

it. Books can take you so far, but to interact with trainees who have already faced the exams and get useful tips for the preparation was very helpful. The friends that I made who were from different part of the world, to know there culture, their training program has given me a new perspective to how I see and compare my own training program. I will forever be grateful to UAA and USANZ for this opportunity.

NetworkingThis experience has given me an opportunity to establish connection with many

trainees from different countries as well as people from USANZ and UAA and start a networking for my Association (NAUS) which will I hope will flourish in coming days for greater good of all.

BenefitsThe benefits of this programme have been many folds. For a trainee like me to

have opportunity to learn, make new friends and also visit new place that too being reimbursed for travel and complimentary lodging and food was really appreciable.

RecommendationsI would recommend UAA to try to include as many trainees as possible in future in

this kind of activity.

Background

I am Fubo Wang, a resident of Urology from Shanghai Changhai Hospital. It is lucky for me to have this opportunity to join in the USANZ Urologists training program on the Trainee Week 2018. I have participated in the training classes and have gotten

familiar with the trainees in Australia and the New Zealand as well as visitors like me all over the world. I would like to share with you my experience in this program.

Programme objectives1. To facilitate the communication between Asian residents and residents in USANZ.2. To improve the understanding of the resident training programs in USANZ.3. To make the Australian urologists better understand the current situation in

Asian Urology.

Lessons learnt/Take Home MessageFor me, a 4th year resident, also a clinician scientist, I consider the training program

is detailed and well-designed; lectures are knowledgeable and thought-provoking; and most importantly, the members of organizing committee and native trainees are very hospitable. I attend all the sections with a grateful heart, listen to speakers’ words, discuss with native trainees, benefit a lot.

Actually, the meeting of the Trainee Week held each year not only the final exam for the trainees, but also serves as a great opportunity for the residents to learn from the masters or predecessor in USANZ and a wonderful chance to share their experiences. Listening to the inculcation of senior urologists and diving to the heated discussions with attendees impressed me a lot. I will recommend this effective assessment and training model to the training agency in China.

NetworkingDuring the Training week, I have made myself familiar with local residents as well

as international guests. We shared our experiences in terms of the training programs and the training as well as the research I have been doing in my home country. We discovered the advantages and disadvantages among different training systems.

In addition, I am also very glad to have the chance to communicate with the senior urologists of USANZ, who was giving the lectures in the course. I would like to thank the UAA and CUA for giving me the chance to be there: you made my vision grand and you also made the international urologist know better about urology in China.

BenefitsI have received the warm welcome from the USANZ, from accommodations to

daily activities. It is a really a wonderful unforgettable experience in the Trainee Week in Australia.

I have learnt a well-established training system; I have witnessed the whole process of their examination; But most importantly, I have a better understanding of what is going on in the lives of residents outside China. Through the deep communication with international and local trainees, I have a broader view over the resident training and get a right direction to cover my own drawbacks.

I believe that international trainees benefit a lot from this week of witness and learn and the participances also are the good addition for the event. During the training we have discovered the differences between each other and exchanged advantages and disadvantages among different training systems. This will eventually help our young urologists to achieve better outcome for the patients and for the scientific researches as well.

RecommendationsUSANZ residents training is progressive and comprehensive for young urologic

residents. UAA members could learn a lot and then promote the residents training in Asian countries. Hopefully, we can finally build a unified training system in Asia. Therefore, I strongly recommend the UAA could further support this program in the future. It’s a pity that I could not visit the hospital in Austria, thus I recommend that the host should arrange one day or half a day for international trainees to visit their urological department engaging them a better understand of real training in clinic.

Any other CommentsPlease allow me to give my sincere

gratitude again to the USANZ for their hospitality during the week, to the faculties in Australia and the New Zealand for giving me the supports during the courses, to the CUA for selecting me for this wonderful program, and most importantly, to the UAA for making all these wonders comes true.

The Urological Association of Asia (UAA) continues to grow with respect to academic importance internationally. The European Association of Urology (EAU), the American Urological Association (AUA) and Société Internationale D’Urologie (SIU) and a number of other international urology organisations have named UAA lectures during their annual scientific conferences.

The UAA Executive Committee and the International Committee have been tasked with the job of selecting speakers from the UAA member countries to represent the UAA at these prestigious meetings and deliver the named UAA lectures.

We are grateful for the ongoing commitment of UAA member countries in providing high quality candidates for selection of speakers who then showcase the excellent contemporary urology practice occurring across the countries of Asia.

Enclosed is the list of speakers at previous meetings.Thank you for your support.

Asian Society of Endourology (ASE) organized and participated in several meetings in Asia.

ASE organized and supported 17th (April 28, 2018) and 18th (Oct. 3, 2018) Busan MIS and Robotic Symposium. This meeting has been held since 2005 in Busan, Korea. ASE also co-organized with Hannam Urological Association (HUA) and 2018 SIU LOC and supported “First Urologic International Symposium” which was held in Oct. 2, 2018, BEXCO, Pusan, Korea. In this meeting, distinguished international guests including Allen Chiu (UAA secretary general), John Densteadt (AUA secretary general), Chris Chapple (EAU secretary general), Yinghao Sun (CUA president), Liqun Zhou (CUDA president) and Li-Ping Xie (CUA vice president) were invited along with esteemed domestic faculty.

ASE supported the First Endoluminal and Technology Symposium” which was held in April 4-5, 2018 at Seoul. This meeting was held in first time as the leaders of urolithiasis from both Asia and Europe came together to consolidate their effort to establish a new and updated meeting on the innovative and advanced urolithiasis technology. This meeting was organized by SY Cho and Seoul National University Hospital.

ASE participated 2018 Chinese Zhe-Ziang Medical Association Andrology and Endourological Association Annual Meeting in June 22-24, 2018. On behalf of ASE, Mario Sung presented plenary talk on “Robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy: Steps to improve early urinary continence”. For the first time, ASE participated 2018 National Cancer Center Forum which was held in Dec. 1-2, 2018 Beijing, China. ASE president gave a talk in the plenary oversea speaker session.

Multiparametric MRI (mpMR) has become a well established modality for imaging prostate cancer. It is used not only in localizing disease but also targeting biopsies, guiding therapy and evaluating outcomes and progress. Classic MRI used T2 weighted images for identifying abnormalities, The addition of functional imaging using a number of MR modalities such spectroscopy, dynamic contrast enhancement, diffusion weighting and, more recently, magnetization transfer, have provided additional tools improve accuracy. These functional modalities are used in various combinations and, expectedly, have differing sensitivities and specificities.

The initial work using mpMR for guiding biopsies depended on cognitive fusion. This implied the use of images to direct trans-rectal ultrasound (TRUS) guided biopsies based on fixed coordinates or visual impression. This was believed to be imprecise and led to the development of computer algorithms and devices which could actually ‘fuse’ MRI images with ultrasound and guide the biopsies through articulated arms. These are the current fusion biopsies. Further refinement has led to the development of in-bore biopsies wherein the biopsy is performed real-time within the MRI machine.

mpMR targeted biopsies have shown higher yields in terms of cancer detection, both for overall and significant cancer. Greater correlation of cancer grade between guided biopsies and final pathology compared to TRUS biopsies allows better treatment planning. However, the major limitations to these techniques are availability, cost, and potential over-diagnosis. Cognitive fusion biopsies are the least ‘equipment intensive’ but depend on non-measurable parameters for localization. Ultrasound fusion technology is expensive while in-bore techniques are additionally cumbersome and time consuming.

The future objective will be to biopsy fewer men, take fewer biopsies and possibly a stage where imaging will replace biopsies. Imaging will play a major role and improved image recognition, possibly with artificial intelligence based detection of lesions, will help improved stratification of patients. The high negative predict value of mpMRI has been frequently demonstrated with the PROMIS trial suggesting 27% fewer patients would be biopsied with 5% chances of missing significant cancer. The PRECISION trial showed higher clinically significant cancers in men undergoing MRI targeted biopsies. Since fusion-targeted biopsies alone are not sufficiently accurate to eliminate the need for standard biopsies, it needs to be seen if this is due to a limitation in interpretation of MRI or appropriate targeting of lesions. mpMRI reporting using the PIRADS system has significant inter-observer variability and machine learning with artificial intelligence may address some of these issues in the future.

2018 APSU Symposium was held from August 31st to September 1st, 2018 at Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital, Seoul, Korea. This year, the Symposium was co-organized by Korean Prostate Society (KPS) and APSU as 2018 KPS-APSU Joint International Symposium. We had seven invited speakers from European countries and the United States (Table) and eight invited chairpersons. Approximately 150 participants from Asia-Pacific countries and regions in addition to 60 Korean faculties shared newest knowledge and experiences in the uro-oncological field with a lot of active discussion.

Chicago, IL (UroToday.com) Dr. Peggy Chu gave an excellent talk on Ketamine Uropathy on behalf of the Urological Association of Asia (UAA). She provided insight into this disease process that had plagued Hong Kong over the past few decades - and provided important guidance on how to manage these patients and learn from their lesion.

Th e impetus for this talk was the increased utilization of ketamine for treatment-resistant depression (IV Ketamine can have a rapid antidepressant eff ect within 24 hours in patients with major depression) - and in the era of opioid addiction, a potential treatment for pain. Just recently, the FDA approved nasal spray of ketamine for treatment of depression - with limited availability.

Ketamine is an NMDA receptor antagonist, fi rst used in 1965 in humans. It has analgesia and dissociative properties, and provides amnesia to pain. It has been used in palliative care medicine more often. It has a rapid onset and short duration of action. It is metabolized by the liver and excreted in the kidneys - hence its impact on the urinary tract.

Ketamine has been illegally used since the 1980s to provide an “out of body” / “near death” experience - and while it does not generate a physiologic dependence, it does cause psychologic dependence. Th is results in increased dosages and increased frequency of use.

She then commented on the Hong Kong epidemic experience. Starting in the 1980’s, ketamine began to be very actively used by the younger population. Over 2000 drug abusers per year were reported by the early 2000’s.

Dr. Chu fi rst encountered this when a husband/wife pair presented to her clinic in December 2006 with severe pelvic pain, dysuria, and urinary urgency/frequency. Both had deteriorated renal function, and on cystoscopy, she noted an infl amed mucosa, biopsied for cystitis glandularis, and bilateral hydronephrosis. Impressively, despite being 25 and 23 years old respectively, their functional bladder capacities were 50 and 30 mL. After much digging into their history, he was a ketamine abuser for 7 years - and after his marriage, she began to use ketamine and had used it for 4 years.

Th ey then completed a survey of ketamine users to assess lower urinary tract symptoms. Th ey found that ~30% reported similar symptoms (despite being younger in age), and some were even diaper dependent. Urine cultures demonstrated sterile pyuria. Th ey were often treated empirically with antibiotics multiple times by family physicians. Th ey reported this phenomenon in the Hong Kong Journal of Medicine in 2007 - to help educate the lay practitioner about this new entity. Of the 10 cases they reported in that study, ~50% had

bilateral hydronephrosis, most had altered renal function, and most were 20-30 years old. Th eir study set off a slew of other studies from other countries (UK, Canada,

Belgium, China, US) that reported similar fi ndings. However, the study in the UK, which specifi cally looked at the eff ects in patients treated for palliative purposes helped identify the fact that it was ketamine itself (and not a contamination in the street formulation) that led to these eff ects.

Th e rest of her talk was primarily anecdotal: 1. Bladder malignancies can present in ketamine abusers - two case reports,

including a yolk sac tumor of the bladder and leiomyosarcoma, were reported. Both required cystectomy and both died within 3 years.

2. Ketamine eff ect, by comparing ketamine users to non-users, appears to be on small and large vessels -specifi c ischemic damage to the bladder

3. Ketamine-induced apoptosis has also been reported as a potential pathway to disease in urothelial tissue - by Simon Baker and colleagues

4. In the kidney, evaluation of renal histology in ketamine users has identifi ed loss of cell-to-cell adhesion in the proximal tubules, and she has seen sclerosed glomeruli on fi nal pathology

Ultimately, the treatment of this epidemic required a multidisciplinary approach involving urologists, hepatologists, psychiatrists, and a patients’ social support. Th ey also developed multiple levels of pain management that can help supplant the need for ketamine and prevent remission - including: NSAIDS + anticholinergic (fi rst-line), opioids/pregabalin/nerve block (second line) and surgery (fi nal option). Abstinence remains the best treatment for ketamine addition and ketamine uropathy.

She has worked with her anesthesia colleagues to develop a superior hypogastric nerve block in conjunction with RF ablation to help some patients with pain - but doesn’t work in all patients. In some patients, who have demonstrated the ability to abstain, she has worked on urinary tract reconstruction - including bladder augmentation, ureteral interposition, etc.

A pitfall with bladder augmentation cystoplasty is that, if the patient relapses, then the ketamine gets excreted in the urine and reabsorbed through the bowel mucosa - and increases blood concentration of ketamine. Th is can have serious consequences and lead to renal failure! So, it should only be done carefully in patients who have demonstrated commitment. Also, she reports having done gastric bladder augmentation - as this is less likely to reabsorb!

A recent mouse study may help make all of this moot however. Lee SW et al. demonstrated that injection of mesenchymal stem cells in mice with IVI ketamine helped improve outcomes - and may be an option in the future.1

However, her most important contribution is her work in changing Hong Kong legislation and eff orts to combat the ketamine epidemic. Based on the work of urologists, penalties for ketamine use were increased and an eff ort was made to reach the public re: the eff ects of ketamine. She is happy to report that due to those eff orts, in 2017, the number of reported ketamine users in Hong Kong have plummeted to almost zero.

Th is story highlights the importance of clinical research in conjunction with patient outreach and legislative eff orts to impact population health and fi ght an epidemic!

Foundation of the Asian-Pacifi c Society of Reconstructive Urologists and Andrologic Surgeons (AP-SRUAS) was approved during UAA Business meeting 2017, Hong Kong to gather together all of the urologists in Asia-Pacifi c region and help a better communication fi eld to share knowledge and experience with other colleagues.

Our visions include introducing active centers in this fi eld, starting from the basic of reconstructive and andrology principles for the colleagues; especially young urologists, designing long term programs for education and fi nally website-based collaboration and education, assembling the experts in this fi eld for group work, fi nding young generation urologists interested in reconstructive/andrology, collaboration with similar international societies and evaluating necessity and feasibility of formulating an Asian-Pacifi c pattern of disease prevalence / diagnosis /

management.We designed an international meeting

during the second Men’s Health Congress in Iran 20-23rd February 2018. Th e program contained more than 10 live video broadcasts via skype connection, by outstanding speakers from Europe, America and Asia.

Th is was a promising experience, proved to be feasible and eff ective.

Asian-Pacifi c Society of Reconstructive Urologists and Andrologic Surgeons (AP-SRUAS) organized its FIRST UAA CONGRESS SCIENTIFIC MEETING on 17th April 2018 in conjunction with the 16th UAA Congress, Kyoto, Japan. Th e program comprised a valuable collection of presentations as many of

outstanding professors of Urology and Andrology. Asian experts gave lectures on diff erent interesting topics and also thirteen expert speakers from all over the world presented videos and explanations through Skype Video Sessions.

Th e aim of the fi rst scientifi c program was to provide basic and practical lectures and videos to make the audience familiar with Reconstructive and Andrology practice.

For the second time in less than one year (22 and 23 Feb 2019), AP-SRUAS organized two consecutive video conference sessions dedicated to Andrology and Reconstructive Urology in conjunction with the 3rd Men’s Health Congress in Iran with wide participation of European and non-European experts who gave lectures along with presenting videos of their own surgeries. Th e program contained more than 20 lectures in two days, presented by prominent speakers from Italy, Belgium, United Kingdom,

United States, Germany, Spain, Serbia, Brazil, Sweden, Qatar and United Arab Emirates, Moderated by Professor Jalil Hosseini (Iran) and Professor Omidreza Sedigh (Italy). Live streaming of the program was fully provided online with previous announcement on time and successful.

Recent three events taught us that today, it is really easier to bypass geographical distances and we are especially focusing on website activity. Case presentations, videos of surgeries and other educational fi les are gradually provided by our guest speakers, founders and members and are uploaded on our website (ap-sruas.org).

AP-SRUAS is honored to announce that the scientifi c Program during the UAA congress 2019 is going to take place on Friday, 9th August 2019, 2-5pm with a great support especially from the congress chairman, Professor Rohan Malek, and we invite you all to this program.

Welcome to the ASFU in Kuala Lumpur. We are delighted to have you here, and I am sure this is going to be a very interesting meeting because the ASFU extends a special invitation to urology professionals around the world at this profi table meeting.

Seven key opinion experts share their experience of studies to be presented during ASFU19’s Sessions in a two-part series of lectures. As part one of the series, Prof. Warren Lo Hwa Loon (Malaysia) will discuss about the surgical innovation as a title of Pushing the Boundaries; Fine Line between Ethics and Surgical Innovation. Second, prof. Satoru Takahashi (Japan) will discuss about the current status of prolapse surgery in Japan by using a Diagnosis Procedure Combination (DPC) database. Th ird, consequences after anti-incontinence surgery will be discussed to improve the outcome for patients with incontinence.

In the second half of the session, the focus will be on emerging therapies in refractory OAB, nocturia and reconstructive surgery related to the previous pelvic surgery. First, prof. Jang Hwan Kim (Korea) will share his valuable tips and tricks in treating refractory OAB. Second, prof. Peggy Sau-kwan CHU (Hongkong) will give us an overview of management of nocturia in elderly female patients. Th ird, Dr. JiYun Chae (Korea) will discuss about Intravesical hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulfate therapy. Finally, Reconstruction of ureteral stricture due to previous pelvic surgery will be discussed by Prof. Henry Shing-Hwa Lu (Taiwan) as well.

Last year, the meeting was held in Kyoto which also was a very provocative meeting. Th e topics cover excellent scientifi c contens which were advances in SUI surgery, urethral diverticulum and interstitial cystitis.
