The Falls Church Recreation and Parks Department summer camp offerings operate as a program exempt from licensure with basic health and safety requirements but has no direct oversight by the Virginia Department of Education.

Children 6 & up are limited to five weeks of contracted camps (pages 5-25) per location. Staff will monitor to ensure campers are within these parameters. If you have questions, please contact the Recreation and Parks Department at 703-248-5027 or [email protected]

Campers will need to bring a lunch with drink and an afternoon snack daily. There is no refrigeration.

CANCELLATION POLICY: The City of Falls Church Recreation and Parks Department reserves the right to cancel camps and programs for which there is insufficient registration. Camps with insufficient registrations are canceled one week prior to the start of camp. In addition, there is limited enrollment for all programs. The Department reserves the right to cancel a camp if we believe it is in the best interest of participant health and safety. REFUND POLICY:

All requests for refunds or credits must be submitted using the Program & Facility Cancellation Form no later than 14 days prior to the start of camp.

Requests received 14 calendar days before the start of camp will be granted, less a 10% processing fee.

Requests received less than two weeks before camp starts will only be granted for medical reasons (doctor’s note required).

Refunds requested due to COVID-19 will only be provided for confirmed positive cases or the need to isolate due to exposure per CDC guidelines.

No refunds or credits will be given if the request is submitted less than two weeks prior to the start of camp, nor after it has ended. This also applies to Extended Care.

A full credit or refund will be provided by the Recreation and Parks Department for camps cancelled by the Department, or upon request, when schedule or location changes made by the Department prohibit or limit an individual's ability to attend.

Summer Fun Rising 1st through Rising 6th graders Children will enjoy a fun-filled summer including sports, arts and crafts, games, special events, and a weekly field trip or entertainment visit to the camp. Time is also available for unstructured play. Each week's activities are theme-based. The camp runs Monday through Friday, 9am-3pm. Camp is located at Cherry Hill Park. A parent handbook with themes, listing of field trips/visits, and other important information will be e-mailed to all participants in May. If the Summer Fun camp takes a field trip on a given week, an additional fee (typically $10-$20) will apply. On field trip days, there is no camp program for the children who are not registered for the field trip. Field trip registration opens in May. Preschool Camps 4-6 years Come learn about Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall in our Explore the Seasons camp or ignite your creative side in our Creative Art Camp. Topics will be explored through music, books, crafts, outdoor adventures and hands on fun! The cost includes a daily snack and craft supplies. Participants will need to bring a lunch and sheets for rest time. Children must be toilet trained. This is a state licensed program which requires additional paperwork including proof of age via birth certificate, physical and immunization report. Counselors In Training Must be 13 by June 21, 2022 Apply to be a Counselor in Training (CIT) no later than March 31, 2022. CITs are assigned to our Summer Fun Playground Program and assist camp staff with facilitating games and activities. CITs build relationships with campers and serve as a role model. Being a CIT helps develop leadership skills, communications skills, interpersonal skills, teamwork and much more. Applications are due March 31, 2022. Blast Into The Past 8-15 years Summer campers will learn about life at Cherry Hill Farmhouse in the mid-19th century through the perspective of the Blasdell’s daughter Ann. Teen Excursion 11-15 years Excursions to keep your teen on the go this summer! Wet 'N Wild 11-15 years This will be a cool week in the heat of summer! Campers will go tubing or white water rafting, as well as visit local waterparks such as Splashdown Water Park and Hurricane Harbor at Six Flags! Campers will need to bring a swimsuit, towel, and a change of clothes each day. All trips are subject to change. Alternate trips will take place in the event of inclement weather. Dips and Donuts 6-13 years Does your Tiny Chef love to dip their food? Chips in salsa, veggies in hummus, bread sticks in marinara sauce? How about dipping donuts in glazes and toppings? In this fun, nutritious and delicious camp, the Tiny Chefs will do all of that! Savory recipes like Mexican Layered Dip or Spinach and Artichoke Dip in Wonton Wrappers will be made side-by-side with Lemon Glazed Blueberry Donuts and Pumpkin Donut Holes with Cinnamon Topping. These are just a few of the types of recipes your Tiny Chef will enjoy as they dip and dunk (and bake and blend) their way through our newest camp! Master Chef 9-13 years Never have food challenge reality shows been so popular and Master Chef is a favorite here at Tiny Chefs! We like it so much we decided to base a whole week long camp on the concept. Our version has the added twist of focusing on different cuisines every day of camp. So, each day the Tiny Chef campers will be presented with 3 or 4 ingredients, which reflect these different cuisines—French, Italian, Mexican, Asian and “All-American”. Using those ingredients and working within those cuisines, they will chal-lenge themselves to make mouthwatering specialties, traditional favorites and explore new ingredients, tastes and combinations. Cupcakes are all the rage and it’s a trend that’s clearly here to stay! If you’ve ever been curious about how the pros make those cupcakes so precious and ornate, and if competition is your middle name, then this is the week for you! We’ll spend three days on cupcake basics - measuring, mixing, baking, and frosting, and then finish the week with two days of baking battle! Kids Cook Off! 6-13 years Kid cooks, bakers and chefs have joined the ranks of elimination style cooking contests and here at Tiny Chefs we are getting in on the action! In this exciting session, campers will be separated into rotating teams and each team will create recipes that are judged by the instructors in a blind taste test with preset criteria. Each day the teams will create 3 items; 2 recipes will be a head to head competitions making the same item. The 3rd item will be recipes that are similar but have slightly different ingredients- Farmers Market Pasta Salad vs. Pesto Pasta Salad with Summer Veggies, for example. May the best team win! At the end of the program, students will be able to prepare a recipe with a variety of different baking techniques. Silver Knights Chess 6-13 years In Chess Camp, campers play and learn chess with Silver Knights! We've taught 100,000 children including national champions, but most students are beginners looking to learn and have fun! Campers are broken up in groups by skill level. Activities include learning the rules, openings, tactics, endgames, studying master games, and playing lots of games against other students, which may be done via tablet or computer for safety reasons. Campers will take breaks for snacks and fresh air, and have lunch and recess from 12:00 – 1:00. At the end of the week, campers receive a t-shirt and chess set. All equipment provided. Contracted Camps - Dance & Gymnastics

Every Body Dance Preschool Camp 3-5 years We will do crafts, play games, and perform activities relating to dance in order to warm the kids up to dance styles! We will practice one dance throughout the whole week to put on a show for the grown-ups on Friday. Some crafts include decorating the studio for the show, making show tickets, creating costumes, and coloring dance-related coloring pages. Disney Hip Hop Camp 6-9 years Experience the fun of performing on "tour" with your favorite pop stars in our high energy Disney dance party hip-hop camp. Campers will learn a fun mini-dance to a different Disney song, play games, and complete a Disney-themed craft each day. Cheer & Hip Hop Dance Camp 6-13 years Our Cheer and Hip-Hop program focuses on teaching fun cheers and modern hip hop movements with a vivacious urban feel. Our hip hop portion of the class will focus on rhythm and musicality, how to "find", count music and dance in with a team. Different styles of hip-hop dance will be combined with fun choreography. Our cheer portion of the class will teach various dance and cheer combinations, basic stunts, and fun choreography. Along with these skills, participants will receive daily take home activities that build teamwork, confidence, and leadership skills. Fab Art 6-12 years FAB means "Fun And Beautiful!" In this FAB Art camp we will explore watercolor techniques, different papers, and 3D art and perspective. Design FUN art featuring unique masks, fish that grow, and even lovable minions. African Safari Pastel Workshop 6-10 years Go on a safari adventure with Young Rem-brandts this summer! We will explore the exciting land and many animals that inhabit Africa. Famous Artists Pastel Workshop 6-10 years This Young Rembrandts’ Pastel Art workshop will focus on five different artists. Adventure Fishing Camp 9-14 years Join Virginia Outside, an educational outdoor adventure camp, and get the opportunity to learn beginner and intermediate tactics for fishing in many different types of Virginia water like private ponds, local rivers and the Chesapeake Bay. We have access to some excellent private waters where campers are assured successful experience. Campers learn casting, knot tying, and fish species throughout the week. Camp Olympia- Horseback Riding 8-15 years Camp Olympia offers a horseback riding camp for children ages 8 - 15. The activity hours at Camp Olympia are 9:30am - 3:30pm. All levels of experience are welcome. The campers will ride twice a day (4 times per week= 8 rides per week) and swim daily. Children ages 10 and up would have a variety of unmounted horse activities including leading horses, unsaddling, grooming, bathing horses, cleaning tack, plus general barn responsibilities. Camper ages 10 and above who wish to may participate in other camp activities for their age group in lieu of unmounted activities. Battle Camp @ NOVA Fencing Club 6-14 years Spin a lightsaber, wield a sword, and shoot a bow and arrow at our amazing summer camps! We teach two great Olympic sports at one fun camp. Split your time between Archery, Fencing and traditional camp fun and games. Learn Archery from our great instructors using the USA Archery, Explore Archery program. Camp Olympia- Sports 8-15 years Camp Olympia offers a general sports program for children ages 8 - 15. The activity hours at Camp Olympia are 9:30am - 3:30pm. There are five activity hours during the day and the schedule varies from day to day. Each camper will swim twice a day (one instructional swim and one free swim) and horseback ride four times per week. This leaves two activity hours each day for team sports or instructional sports. Community Center The Community Center is located adjacent to Cherry Hill Park and in the heart of the City. It is the perfect place to play basketball, table tennis, pool, airhockey, and foosball; or to walk, take a class, or just enjoy time with family, friends, and neighbors. It is home to the Senior Center and Teen Center. The Community Center boasts a full-size gymnasium with a six-hoop basketball court. Picnic Shelters Five of the City’s parks (Berman, Big Chimneys, Cherry Hill, Madison, and Roberts Parks) have picnic shelters that are available for rent. If a shelter is not reserved it can be used on a first-come first-served basis.

Tennis Courts Courts in the following locations can be reserved by City Residents: Cavalier Trail Park (2 Courts), Cherry Street Park (2 Courts) and Cherry Hill Park, (2 Courts). Call 703-248-5027 to or visit www.fallschurchva.gov /register to make reservations up to one day in advance. Courts are reserved 1 hour/singles and 1.5 hours/doubles.

Fields Stay active and apply for a permit to use the Larry Graves Soccer Field. The field is available for rent based on availability. Call 703-248-5027 for availability, fees and application.

Weddings & Receptions The Cherry Hill Farmhouse and grounds can be rented for special occasions. The house and sur-rounding park provide a lovely setting for wedding receptions and small parties. Birthday Party Packages Celebrate your child’s next birthday at the Falls Church Community Center.
