From the HOD’s Desk …………

During the first semester of academic year 2016-17, various extracurricular activities were conducted successfully by the Mechanical Engineering Department like Paper Publication & Paper Presentation by faculty members and students in National / International journals. The Faculty member regularly contributes for publications of Text Books and work on Research Projects by involving UG & PG students funded by BCUD, Savitribai Phule Pune University, DST New Delhi. Faculty Members publish their research papers in National and International Journals& Conferences regularly. Numbers of faculty members are working as resource person and key note speaker for conferences and workshops. Mechanical Engineering students regularly contributing by involving in various technical events like Go-Kart and SAE BAJA organized by SAE India which encourages them and staff members, which we want to continue in coming years also. Also various projects by final year students are as per present requirements of industries and Quality.

Greetings to faculty, students and friends!

It gives us an immense pleasure in bringing out this issue of our First Semester Departmental Newsletter [2016-17].

We hope this newsletter will provide a brief report of all activities conducted by the faculties and students of Mechanical Engineering Department during the First Semester of academic year 2016-17.

Department of Mechanical Engineering- Semester-I [2016-17]

Mechanical Engineering is the core branch of Engineering and Technology, which plays important role in the industrial growth of the nation. The department has well equipped laboratories. Besides high quality teaching, the practical knowledge of students is enhanced through Expert Lectures by eminent persons from Industry, industrial visits, etc. The department has a team of dedicated faculty members, who strive hard to give their 100%. The department adopts flexible and innovative learning opportunities for students enabling them to enhance theoretical and professional skills. Numbers of faculty members are contributing to Text Books Publications & working on research projects funded by BCUD, University of Pune and presented & published their research work in international conferences at USA, Singapore& China and in International Journals. The department has set ground zero between faculty & students which facilitates teaching learning process effectively. The department had been pioneering many quint-essential activities which led to the development of the college. Final year students have presented and published technical papers based on their projects in national and International Journals.

3.1 MESA Technical Event- “PHOENIX-2016”

Mechanical Engineering Department organizes PHOENIX-2016 Technical Events for

MESCOE Students on 1st & 2nd September 2016 under MESA.

5. NSS Activity 5.1 Organ Donation Awareness Workshop

5.2 Organ Donation Awareness Rally NSS Volunteers and staff of MESCOE participated in Organ Donation Rally on 30th August 2016. The rally was started from Wadia College Campus towards B. J. Medical College, Pune. Total 40 numbers of NSS volunteers from MESCOE were participated in this rally.

5.3 Swachhta Pledge NSS unit of MESCOE, Pune organized “Swachhta Pledge” activity under Swachhta Pakhwada, initiated by Ministry of Corporate Affairs Government of India on 9th Sept 2016 in our college porch at 9.50 AM. All students, teaching and non-teaching staff of MESCOE were present for the activity. Principal Dr. A. A. Keste gave “Swachhta Pledge” to all students and staff of college.

5.4 Blood Donation Camp NSS unit of MESCOE organized Blood Donation Camp on Friday, 23rd September 2016 in association with Acharya Anandrishiji Blood Bank, Pune and Jahangir Hospital Blood Bank, Pune. Blood Donation Camp was inaugurated by our Principal Dr.A.A.Keste and Vice-Principal Dr. V. N. Raibhole. More than 300 students and staff were registered for blood donation camp. Out of which around 200 units of blood were collected by respective blood banks. Certificate for Blood

Donation was given to all Blood Donors, also certificates given to all NSS student volunteers for their enthusiastic participation. Thanks to the cooperation extended by management, department faculties, and office as well as non-teaching staff.

Mission of Mechanical Engineering Department: To Develop Industry Oriented Manpower to accept the challenges of Globalization, by imparting Mechanical Engineering knowledge through trained faculty in conducive

environment,

by creating awareness about the needs of Mechanical industries through alumni and Industry-Institute interactions

by encouraging them to think innovatively and introduce them to various research activities

by supporting them to groom in all aspects as communication, interpersonal skills.

Program Educational Objectives: The Mechanical Engineering graduate will have

I. Successful career in Core Mechanical and Interdisciplinary Industries through strong foundation in mathematical, scientific and engineering fundamentals.

II. An ability to adopt with rapid technological changes with core Mechanical Engineering domain knowledge.

III. An ability to develop their knowledge and skills across the range of disciplines. IV. An ability to work in a team and have soft skills with good communication, ethical values. V. An ability to strengthen their knowledge and skills through self-learning throughout their

professional career as well as to pursue higher education.

Mechanical Engineering Program Outcomes: The Mechanical Engineering graduates will have ability a. Engineering Knowledge: to apply fundamental concepts of mathematics, science, engineering to

solve engineering application problems b. Problem Analysis: to analyze a problem, to conduct experiment and interpret data

c. Design / Development of Solutions: to design and conduct experiments, model and analyze physical system, components, or process to meet desired needs.

d. Conduct Investigations of Complex Problems: to conduct independent research for information required in engineering problem solving, identify, formulate, and solve engineering problem.

e. Modern Tool Usage: to use modern engineering techniques, skills and computing tools necessary for engineering practice.
