Why address Trauma in Schools?InastudyconductedonthetroubledSouthSideofChicago:• Studentswhoseneighborhoods(anarearoughly6-10
squareblocks)hadbeenthesiteofahomicidewithintheprevioustwoweeksscoredhalfastandarddeviationloweronatestofintelligence.
• Thisfitsinwithwhatisknownabouttheeffectsofposttraumaticstress,Sharkeysaid."Theresultssuggestthatchildrenmaycarrytheburdenofviolencewiththemastheytakepartindailylifewithintheneighborhoodorschoolsettings,"hesaid.
