Video games, originally referred to as a raster display device, is an electronic game that involves human interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device such as a TV or monitor. The earliest games were in 1947, a cathode ray tube amusement device, it consisted of an analog device that allows a user to control a vector drawn dot on the screen to simulate a missiles being fired at targets, painted on the screen. Other early games included Nimrod, OXO, Tennis for Two, Space war and Pong. The golden age of video games came at the end of the “video game crash of 1977” started with the release of Space Invaders. This led to a lot of other games being released similar to space invaders such as Pac-man and Donkey Kong.Aside from arcade machines, home platform devices that used input devices such as joysticks evolved quickly too, 8-bit games, similar to part of what I will be designing came out after the golden age of arcade games and famous titles being released such as Legend of Zelda and Mortal Kombat. The first three dimension video game was released Elite in 1984. And some more well known consoles came soon after such as the Play station, Nintendo 64, Xbox and so on.

There were several different classifications for games, though it is quite what you think. These are more types of video games, casual games involved ease of accessibility, simple to understand gameplay and quick to grasp rules. These included puzzles like Minesweeper or tower defense games to name a few.Serious games were designed to convey information or learning experience for the player, these could be like Touch typing which teaches the user a skill. However it later became games that involved “a second life virtual world” role playing games or tactical fighting simulators.

Development of three dimensional games is a long and arduousprocess but has been perfected over the years, graphic designers use software to create and program movement of three dimensional objects on screen. 3D games are limited by the RAM or lack of dedicated 3D graphic rendering capability on the target platform, such as cell phones, which kept three dimensional games mainly on large consoles. It often takes about 5 to 50 people, often over 100 to deisgn the size of games today.

Ratings and censorship of games is what could now be called classification, giving a game an age rating is like giving a film an age rating, but can often lead to worse outcomes, since it is often role playing games are the majority around today, allowing children to play these games often designed for older audiences can lead to imitable behaviour or damage to said children. It is up to the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) that rate games with T for Teen or M for Mature in the USA. PEGI or Pan European Game Information is another system to rate games within Europe, similar to films give the game age ratings. Finally there are different types of games that you can play, RTS, FPS, RTS and RPG, often if you play one, you won’t play the other because they are very different.RTS or Real Time Strategy have the user control a unit or building process at the same time as their opponent, you can control armies and battle enemies as you would in real life controlling an army. TBS (Turn Based Strategy) is similar to RTS only each player is given a turn to do what they doIf you play RTS then its unlikely you will play FPS because they are very different, First Person Shooters are shooting games that are perceived by the first person, the gun in front of you for example, I would consider making a game like this but it is more difficult to incorporate a story into games like this.
