ISO 8000 quality master data is portable data that meets requirements

Portable data is application neutral data, it is free from any software license. (Data that cannot be separated from licensed software can only be used as specified by the software license).

A dictionary, templates and description rules encoded using public domain eOTD concept identifiers is free of any third party claims to copyright. Master Data encoded using the eOTD is portable data.

Data that is encoded using a proprietary dictionary or created using proprietary templates or descriptions created using proprietary

description rules – is proprietary data.

Unless we are the sole owner of our dictionary, our templates and our description rules, we are not the sole owner of our data. Under the

copyright law what we think of as “our” data is in reality a “joint work” and we can be restricted in how we use “our” data.
