Overview While there is much talk and focus on Innovation relatively few people know what it is and how they can help engage and foster Innovation for the benefit of all in our community. Through our Innovation In The City group we have opened the opportunity for people to Learn and become involved.

What better way to get more involvement that taking Innovation to a shop front in a busy street….and in doing so bring new people, vitality and opportunities for growth to businesses that call Hutt St home.

We aim to use the space in a flexible and creative way to achieve all of these aims and more.

Page 9: Innovation on hutt

There is a lot talk about Innovation - we want to show case it via an exhibition space - everything from drones to 3D printing and Sustainable energy to the Internet of Things

We will also provide education and training to business, schools and residents using a proven Innovation Methodology “Selling your Way to Innovation” developed in association with Harold Sharples - The man who taught Tim Cook how to Innovate the way we Innovate - to help them leverage what they have into what they need for the future using Technology and Information as an enabler.

A Co Working space we will add further diversity to the street and provide opportunities via scholarships for young people with big ideas to have a base amongst seasoned and experienced business professionals and proven innovators.

Our key aim is to deliver growth in the form of jobs in SA and support the Initiatives of Federal, State Government and in particular to help the Adelaide City Council deliver some of their goals for Adelaide as a vital city and a base for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Sustainability.

The number of co-working spaces continues to increase and in the last twelve months

they have grown by 36%, which puts the number of coworking spaces worldwide at around

7,800. The coworking movement is undeniably here to stay. The

survey showed that current spaces serve, on average, 46% more members than they did

just two years ago. Today, about half a million people are

working in coworking spaces.Coworking Europe Conference in Milan Oct 2015

Sharing Technology as an Enabler to Innovation

We aim to be a part of Hutt St long term delivering tangible benefits to the street, the co summers, the businesses, the landlords and the precinct. While the initial focus is on Co-working as a base we aim to deliver services and advice to the traders and provide access via exhibitions and training to new tools and technology - so as to become a model for what can be done at grassroots level. We aim to be a facilitator of more profitable business throughout Precinct.

Accordingly we come in with a 5 year plan

Despite what most business owners think 95% of a businesses DNA is exactly the same as every other business around it. As such the business services and support the business and its owners and shareholders require are much the same,.

Many businesses can take advantage of resources and facilities when they group together in some kind of "mutual buying group" that they couldn't if they are acting alone

The combination of digital services and a common physical location generates synergies and advantages that either one of those aspects alone cannot give.

Some possible options to consider include:

- a common tenanted online accounting and point of sale solution, with training and support

- business training and mentoring specific to the precinct (at least to certificate 4 in small business)

- a membership app for businesses, staff and residents of the precinct that ostensibly used to generate discounts for the customers but as a byproduct collect essential data on users of the precinct and allows for easy communication, establishment of special interest groups, reviews, and lobbying.

- Using inexpensive cameras, and now ubiquitous camera technology through the precinct to enable data to be generated on everything from traffic flows, parking turnover, foot traffic, and combined with data from other sources (e.g. weather data) start generating business intelligence based on the intersection of two or more sets of data (e.g. the effect of weather on foot traffic flows versus car parking)

- intelligent digital signage and display advertising, community information, free car parking spaces, public transport information et cetera

- digital work hub to both homebase "on road" businesses in the area and allow for local businesses to expand, or test expansion until such time as they can expand their bricks and mortar presence.

- Most importantly, tie all these together with specific events that foster a sense of community amongst the businesses, amongst the local residents, and amongst the whole precinct.
