Oyu Tolgoi is situated in the southern Gobi region of Mongolia, approximately 550 kilometers south of the capital, Ulaanbaatar.

Oyu Tolgoi deposit (Umnugovi province), is situated approximately 80 kilometers north of Chinese border, the biggest consumer of copper.
