Question 2- How does your media product represent particular social

groups?

Introduction:Our media product consists of two types of teenage social groups, one of rebellious delinquents (chavs) and the other being respectful youth. The social group I am going to focus on is the rebellious delinquents as I feel they are becoming a very common group of teenagers in todays society. Although there are more respectable youth rather than rebellious delinquents. The respectful youth are those who tend to keep away from illegal activities and stay away from any danger, keeping a down low around others and behave the way of what is expected in the society.Rebellious delinquents tend to be young boys perhaps between the ages of 15-20. They are known for wearing hoodies, hanging around on the streets at night time and making other members of the community around them nervous. They are usually involved with illegal activities. We have challenged the typical boy gang to having girls instead to show that girls are just as capable of this irresponsible and anti-social behaviour the way boys are.

These two characters are known as the respectful youth. The one on the right is fromA TV series called Skins. They are both involved or clash in some way with the rebelliousDelinquents. They are both natural and smiley with blonde hair. The respectful youth Which are females tend to be rather feministic and are sweet and friendly towards theirPeers and don’t tend to be a part of any illegal activities but may tend to substitute towardsPeer pressure as they don’t want to upset anyone around them.They are both wearing minimal make up and have natural coloured hair. Both are lookingInnocent.

Similarities

These two characters have similarities in the way that they are both rebellious Delinquents. The character on the right is from a film (sket). As you can see they areBoth wearing heavy make-up and both look miserable of distressed in some way.It is well known that girls who are rebellious delinquents tend to wear a lot of make up,Tend to wear baggy clothing like boys clothes and act like boys too. This may be becauseRebellious delinquents are usually boys so the girls may feel they have to live up to theBoys standards of dressing and behaving like one.

Similarities

Conclusion:From all the previous research I have done into other media products and my own media product, I have looked into how similar or different my characters are compared to characters in well known media products and I have found that they are quite similar. The rebellious delinquents are both angry about a situation and take action, they tend to show their angry side a lot more than the respectful youth. The rebellious delinquents will drag others down with them as they don’t want to be the only ones to suffer whatever they are going through. I have found that they both tend to wear heavy make-up and wear boy like clothes and act like a boy because majority of the stereotypes tend to be boys. I have also found that the respectful youth seem to act younger than their age and the females wear minimal make-up and always come across happy so that they make their peers around them happy too.I feel the delinquents would have a negative effect on the audience as they misbehave and show some upsetting scenes such as Kelly having a breakdown.
