Process

To start the Magazine cover I opened an A4 page which I will use temporally. I then used dafont.com to look for the font that I had included in my pre-production, I changed the size and colour and then copied and pasted it onto the page. I then found and picture of Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean, I used the quick select tool to delete the coloured background. I then made the character big enough to cover some of the title and to fill most of the page.

The next thing I did was get a background image of an empty movie reel that had a vintage theme. I then got an image of The lord of the Rings film poster which I placed in the middle of the movie reel. I then merged both layers together (the movie reel and film poster) and changed the brightness and contrast so the colours blended together better and the overall image wasn’t as bright.

Process

I then repeated what I had already done and I used more movie posters from Deadpool, Harry Potter, The Hobbit and Taken 3. I used the same method and then lined them up next to each other at the same size. I merged all the layers together so I could transform them as one. Once I had placed the appropriately I used the blur tool to touch up some areas where the layers joined, this gave it a more finished look.

To bring everything that I had already done together I chose a background from Google images. The background I chose was a picture of the ship from the Pirates of the Caribbean, I noticed that using the ship as the background gave the cover to much detail so I used the side of the picture that was just ocean.

Process

I changed the brightness and contrast of the background image so it matched the colour scheme of the rest of the cover. Changing the contrast made the difference between the sea and the sky more noticeable. Because the background was so dark the title of my page didn’t stand out as much as I wanted it to. Therefore I used the effects to add an outer glow.

The next thing I did was add a barcode onto the bottom corner of the page, but made it smaller so it didn’t take up as much room. I then added the website, date and price of the magazine which I put at the top of the page in black text. I also moved the layer with the movie reels behind the image of Jack Sparrow because it isn’t the main concept of the magazine cover.

Process

I noticed that most magazine covers have adverts that they put separately into a shape. To do this I used Google to find a golden circle shape which I then copied and pasted onto the cover. I used the quick select tool to delete the surrounding background and I used the text tool to write an advert that is advertising a poster inside the magazine. I then changed the size of the text and made it a centre paragraph to the text would be equally in the middle.

The next thing I did was use the text tool to start creating the headings around the main picture. I used Google to find inspiration of what to write and then made it my own. I used the colour yellow and white to make each text stand from each other as well as the dark coloured background. I also used different sizes which meant that some of my text overlapped the centre image. I like how it overlaps the centre image because it makes it look like a traditional magazine cover.

Process

I used the same strategy as the other side of the magazine to do the other text. I used the same colour text and the same size. The text on this side of the magazine cover informs the audience of what the magazine includes and what there is to offer. I overall like how the text has come out of the sixe proportion makes it easy to tell which parts are most important.

I then needed to fill in the blank gap on the bottom of the magazine so I made a banner with a caption to sum up what the magazine is about. To do this I used the shape and text tool and changed the colour and size. I think my finished magazine cover looks fairly professional and traditional compared to existing magazine covers.

To start of the page spread I used google to find a vintage map background which fits with the theme of the movie. I then used the title of the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean film, I used the quick select tool to delete the surrounding background. I then changed the brightness and contrast of the title.

I used the same strategy of using the quick select tool to delete the surrounding background from the two characters that are going to be in the film. I placed each one at either side of the title but made them bigger enough so that the title overlaps their heads.

The next thing I did was start adding the text/article. I used inspiration from Google but put most of it into my own words. The article includes information on the films and the actors/actresses that ar4e staring in the film. I used two different text boxes and put one on each different side of the page therefore is will be easily viewable.

To finish of the final piece I changed the contrast so the difference in colours stood out more, this also meant that the text was easier to read and didn’t look as dark.

The first thing I did was create a new file on Photoshop, I used an A4 page and doubled the width to make a double page spread. I then found a sans-serif font from Dafont which I copied and pasted onto a blank page. I used the quick select tool to select the text from the background which I then copied and pasted it onto the page spread.

I looked at existing page spreads and most of them had a large picture that was covering the whole second page, this picture is what the article is about. I went on Google images to find a film poster that relates to one of the biggest movies of 2015 which is going to be the main topic of the page spread.

Process

I used a video from YouTube of a movie reel countdown which I print screened so I could use the images as a countdown of the top 5 movies of 2015. I cropped the screenshots down and placed them onto the page at equal spaces apart. They have a vintage theme which shows how long films have been going and are easily recognisable as a movie countdown.

I used the same method as I did for the page title. I used Dafont to find a traditional sans-serif font which I then print screened and pasted onto a blank page. I used the quick select tool to select the text and paste it onto the page. I did this with all 5 titles of all the movies the page was going to feature

I used a the website imdb which allowed mum to get star ratings of each of the films I chose to use, I then copied and pasted them onto the page and out the at an equal distance apart. I changed around some of the fonts so the were in order of the best ratings to the worst ratings.

The last thing I did was use the website imdb which I got the ratings from along with the short descriptions of the film. I copied and pasted the text onto the page, I then used the text settings to change the fonts and size. To finish of the page and add more detail I used an image of a movie reel as the background but I changed the opacity so it was only slightly visible.

I started to make a second version of my magazine cover and the first thing I did was use Google to find the font from the older magazine cover which I then copied and pasted it onto the page.

The next thing I did was find an image from Google which I could use as a background, I chose one which was light and suttle. I then used the spectre movie poster as the centre piece but I used the quick select tool so I could delete the surrounding background. I then used the clone stamp tool to erase the release date that was on the bottom of the picture.

Process

I used the shape tool to create a unique shape which I would be able to put text inside. Then I used the text tool and the text settings to write an advertisement to put into the centre of the shape.

The next thing I did was add the barcode, web address, date and price of the magazine which I put at the top and the bottom so they wont be as noticeable.

Page 17: 6. production reflection (kr)

Process

I created two titles on either side of the magazine cover, I did this by using the shape and text tool. One side will include headings of the worst films of 2015 and the other side will include headings of films that a due to be released in 2016.

I started using the text tool to write some headings that relate to the titles I made. I might change some of the text later on and add a larger title representing the main film that the magazine focuses on ‘spectre’.

Page 18: 6. production reflection (kr)

Process

I finished writing the text which I made white and a simple sans-serif font which will keep the style of the magazine cover traditional like other magazine covers.

The next thing I did was use the clone stamp tool to erase the text that was on the centre image, this meant that I had to do each part separately because of the creases that were in the jumper.

Process

I started to make a contents page, this page is going to have a sci-fi star wars theme. I used and image from Google which had some realistic stars on which I placed on the page first. I then used the shape tool to created a square to cover it, using the layer styles to add a gradient overlay I created the faded effect between to two blue colours. The next thing I had to do was change the opacity so you could see the stars behind it, I then merged the two layers together and moved onto my title.

To find a text that would be unique and appropriate for the topic I used the website Dafont. I found a font which had a superhero theme and I added some number by just using the text tool. To get the space effect I used an image from google of a space background.

Page 21: 6. production reflection (kr)

Process

To get the space text I started of by creating two layers, one with a number on and the other a plain white page. I merged them both together and added another plain layer.

The next thing I did was use Google to get an image of a colourful space background which I placed on a bottom layer.

I then used the quick select tool to select the number and I deleted it so you could see the bottom layer.

The last thing I did was copy and pasted the new number onto my other page. I used this method for each number and title I created.

Page 22: 6. production reflection (kr)

Process

The next thing I did was add the titles of the pages, used titles that are basic, interesting and catchy. I then used the layer styles to add a black stroke around the edges which makes the text stand out more. I also made the colour overlay green so it matches the colour scheme of the background.

I used Google to get an image of yoda from star wars which I cut out using the quick select tool and pasted it into the corner of the page. I then refined the edges by change the amount of feathers which made the edges softer. I also changed the opacity so it didn’t stand out as much and blended in with the background.

Page 23: 6. production reflection (kr)

Process

I used the same method as I did with the image of Yoda as I did for the image of R2-D2. I had to flip the R2-D2 image horizontally so it would fit into the corner and still be able to see most of the full image.

The next thing I did was add some text under the titles which has more detail as to what is on that page. I used a smaller text but the same font and I changed the colour to black so it would be easily readable and it didn’t match the titles.

Page 24: 6. production reflection (kr)

Process

I noticed that even though I refined the edges of the Yoda picture it still didn’t have straight edges like I wanted so I used the rubber tool to rub out some of the image to give it smoother edges.

To finish of the contents page I merged all the layers together and changed the brightness and contrast so it was brighter and the colour were more significant.
