9 FRAME ANALYSIS

The opening sequence starts off in a dingy corridor, the music creates an atmosphere of uncertainty. The bold red text could suggest fear.

Shutter Island

The spiralling stairs draws in the audiences attention. It confuses the audience and gives them an idea of the genre.

We then get this image of a dark, dingy gate the rain mixed with the darkness around gives a morbid feel to the scene. They use pathetic fallacy in this scene to bring a horror/thriller element to it. This makes the audience nervous of what will happen next.

A close up shot of a hand appears on screen. We don’t know who this person is and we can see that they are doing something but can’t exactly on point what he is doing. It also tells us that this book is based on a novel so we know some background knowledge.

We get a long shot of a gate which may lead into a house or a different sort of building. The gates have spikes on top which may suggest that people are let in and out when allowed.

The room shown next is bordered by flames. The audience could get a slight insight of what the actors personality may be like.

This room then appears next, the room has chains in it and hand cuffs you can see that this room is used as a prison cell. The room gives the audience an indication that there is a prison aspect to the film.

The title of the film comes up in bold red letters this adds an element of death or blood. This gives us a slight insight to what the genre of the film maybe.
